EPISTLE - HEBREWS 11:24-26, ΠΡῸΣ ἙΒΡΑΙΟΥΣ 11:24-26, Reader - Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our f athers. For you are just in all you have Μὲ τὴν πίστιν ὁ Μωϋσῆς, ὅταν ἐμεγάλωσε, ἀρνήθηκε νὰ ὀνομάζεται υἱὸς τῆς θυγατρὸς τοῦ Φαραώ, διότι 2

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 11:24-26, Brethren, by faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, choosing rather to share illtreatment with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets -- who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, received promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched raging fire, escaped the edge of the sword, won strength out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign enemies to flight. Women received their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and scourging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword; they went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, ill-treated - - of whom the world was not worthy -- wandering over deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. And all these, though well attested by their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had foreseen something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect. ἐπροτίμησε μᾶλλον νὰ ὑποφέρῃ μαζὶ μὲ τὸν λαὸν τοῦ Θεοῦ παρὰ νὰ ἔχῃ τὴν πρόσκαιρη ἀπόλαυσιν ἁμαρτωλῶν πραγμάτων. Ἐθεώρησε μεγαλύτερον πλοῦτον ἀπὸ τοὺς θησαυροὺς τῆς Αἰγύπτου τὸν ἐξευτελισμὸν τοῦ Χριστοῦ, καθ ὅσον ἀπέβλεπε εἰς τὴν ἀνταπόδοσιν. Καὶ τί ἀκόμη νὰ πῶ; Δὲν μοῦ ἐπιτρέπει ὁ χρόνος νὰ σᾶς διηγηθῶ διὰ τὸν Γεδεών, τὸν Βαράκ, τὸν Σαμψών, τὸν Ἰεφθάε, τὸν Δαυῒδ καὶ Σαμουὴλ καὶ τοὺς προφήτας, οἱ ὁποῖοι μὲ τὴν πίστιν ἀνέτρεψαν βασίλεια, ἔκαναν ἔργα δικαιοσύνης, ἐπέτυχαν τὴν πραγματοποίησιν ὑποσχέσεων τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἔφραξαν στόματα λεόντων, ἔσβησαν τὴν δύναμιν φωτιᾶς, διέφυγαν τὴν σφαγήν, ἔγιναν ἀπὸ ἀδύνατοι δυνατοί, ἔγιναν ἰσχυροὶ σὲ καιρὸν πολέμου, ἔτρεψαν εἰς φυγὴν παρατάξεις τῶν ἐχθρῶν. Γυναῖκες ἔλαβαν τοὺς νεκρούς των δι ἀναστάσεως, ἄλλοι δὲ ἐβασανίσθησαν καὶ δὲν ἐδέχθησαν νὰ ἀφεθοῦν ἐλεύθεροι, διὰ νὰ ἐπιτύχουν μίαν ἄλλην καλυτέραν ἀνάστασιν. Ἄλλοι ἐδοκιμάσθησαν μὲ ἐμπαιγμοὺς καὶ μαστίγωσιν, ἀκόμη δὲ καὶ μὲ δεσμὰ καὶ φυλακήν. Ἐλιθοβολήθησαν, ἐπριονίσθησαν, ὑπέστησαν πολλὰς δοκιμασίας, ἐθανατώθησαν μὲ μάχαιραν, περιπλανῶντο φοροῦντες δέρματα προβάτων καὶ δέρματα αἰγῶν, ἐστεροῦντο, ὑπέφεραν θλίψεις καὶ κακουχίας, (ἄνθρωποι διὰ τοὺς ὁποίους δὲν ἦτο ἄξιος ὁ κόσμος), ἐπλανῶντο σὲ ἐρήμους καὶ σὲ βουνά, σὲ σπήλαια καὶ σὲ τρύπες τῆς γῆς. Ὅλοι αὐτοί, ἂν καὶ εἶχαν καλὴν μαρτυρίαν διὰ τὴν πίστιν τους, δὲν ἔλαβαν ὅ,τι εἶχε ὑποσχεθῆ ὁ Θεός, διότι εἶχε ὁ Θεὸς προβλέψει κάτι καλύτερον ἀναφορικῶς μ ἐμᾶς διὰ νὰ μὴ φθάσουν ἐκεῖνοι εἰς τὴν τελειότητα χωρὶς ἐμᾶς. 3

4 GOSPEL - JOHN 1:43-51 ΚΑΤᾺ ἸΩΑΝΝΗΝ 1:44-52 At that time, Jesus decided to go to Galilee. And he found Philip and said to him, "Follow me." Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael, and he said to him, "We have found him of whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!" Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" Jesus answered him, "Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You shall see greater things than these." And he said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man." Τὴν ἄλλην ἡμέραν ἤθελε ὁ Ἰησοῦς νὰ μεταβῇ εἰς τὴν Γαλιλαίαν καὶ βρίσκει τὸν Φίλιππον καὶ τοῦ λέγει, «Ἀκολούθησέ με». Κατήγετο δὲ ὁ Φίλιππος ἀπὸ τὴν Βηθσαϊδά, ἀπὸ τὴν πόλιν τοῦ Ἀνδρέα καὶ τοῦ Πέτρου. Ὁ Φίλιππος εὑρίσκει τὸν Ναθαναὴλ καὶ τοῦ λέγει, «Εὑρήκαμε ἐκεῖνον, διὰ τὸν ὁποῖον ἔγραψε ὁ Μωϋσῆς εἰς τὸν νόμον καὶ οἱ Προφῆται, τὸν Ἰησοῦν, τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ Ἰωσὴφ ἀπὸ τὴν Ναζαρέτ». Καὶ ὁ Ναθαναὴλ τοῦ εἶπε, «Εἶναι δυνατὸν ἀπὸ τὴν Ναζαρὲτ νὰ προέλθῃ κανένα καλό;». Λέγει εἰς αὐτὸν ὁ Φίλιππος, «Ἔλα νὰ ἰδῇς». Εἶδε ὁ Ἰησοῦς τὸν Ναθαναὴλ νὰ ἔρχεται πρὸς αὐτὸν καὶ εἶπε, «Νά ἕνας ἀληθινὸς Ἰσραηλίτης, εἰς τὸν ὁποῖον δὲν ὑπάρχει δόλος». Ὁ Ναθαναὴλ τοῦ εἶπε, «Ἀπό ποῦ μὲ γνωρίζεις;». Καὶ ὁ Ἰησοῦς τοῦ ἀπεκρίθη, «Πρὶν σὲ φωνάξῃ ὁ Φίλιππος, σὲ εἶδα νὰ εἶσαι κάτω ἀπὸ τὴ συκιά». Ὁ Ναθαναὴλ τοῦ λέγει, «Ραββί, σὺ εἶσαι ὁ Υἱὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ, σὺ εἶσαι ὁ βασιλεὺς τοῦ Ἰσραήλ». Ὁ Ἰησοῦς τοῦ ἀπεκρίθη, «Ἐπειδὴ σοῦ εἶπα ὅτι σὲ εἶδα κὰτω ἀπὸ τὴ συκιά, πιστεύεις; Θὰ ἰδῇς μεγαλύτερα πράγματα ἀπὸ αὐτά». Καὶ προσέθεσε, «Ἀλήθεια, ἀλήθεια, σᾶς λέγω, ἀπὸ τώρα θὰ βλέπετε τὸν οὐρανὸν ἀνοιγμένον καὶ τοὺς ἀγγέλους τοῦ Θεοῦ νὰ ἀνεβαίνουν καὶ νὰ κατεβαίνουν πρὸς τὸν Υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου». 5 GOSPEL - GJONI 1:43-51 Të nesërmen, Jezui vendosi të shkojë në Galile. Ai takoi Filipin dhe i tha: «Më ndiq!». Filipi ishte nga Betsaida, nga qyteti i Andreas dhe Pjetrit. Filipi gjeti Natanaelin dhe i tha: «E gjetëm atë për të cilin kanë shkruar Moisiu në ligj dhe profetët, Jezuin nga Nazareti, të birin e Jozefit». Natanaeli e pyeti: «A mund të dalë ndonjë gjë e mirë nga Nazareti?». «Eja e shih!». - iu përgjigj Filipi. Jezui pa Natanaelin që po shkonte drejt tij dhe tha për të: «Ja një izraelit i vërtetë tek i cili nuk ka mashtrim!». OLD TESTAMENT - JEREMIAH 9:1-8 Natanaeli e pyeti: «Nga më njeh?». Jezui iu përgjigj: «Të pashë kur ishe nën fik, përpara se të të thërriste Filipi». Natanaeli tha: «Mësues, ti je Biri i Perëndisë! Ti je mbreti i Izraelit!». Jezui i tha: «Ti beson vetëm sepse të thashë se të pashë nën fik? Do të shohësh gjëra edhe më të mëdha!». Pastaj Jezui i tha: «Me të vërtetë po ju them: do të shihni qiellin e hapur dhe engjëjt e Perëndisë duke u ngjitur dhe duke zbritur mbi Birin e njeriut». Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people! Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they be all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men. And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the Lord. Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders. And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity. Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the Lord. Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, Behold, I will melt them, and try them; for how shall I do for the daughter of my people? Their tongue is as an arrow shot out; it speaketh deceit: one speaketh peaceably to his neighbour with his mouth, but in heart he layeth his wait. 5

Greek Mayor for the Day 2019: Please join our Greek Mayor for the Day, Mr. Peter Vorvis on Saturday, March 23rd, 10:00am at Waterbury s City Hall for the Greek Independence Day Celebration, including a flagraising and reception to follow. The Greek School program will follow on Sunday, March 24th. In Hartford, the Greek Independence Day Celebration will take place on Monday, March 25th at the State Capitol at 4:30pm. Our next Greek Festival Meeting is scheduled for Thurs, March 28th at 6:30pm here at church. Koulourakia Baking for the Greek Fest will take place on 3 Sundays - please mark your calendars.
