GEORGE DION DRAGAS The Falling Asleep in the Lord of the Most Holy Theotokos is celebrated today by the Orthodox Church everywhere. The mournful event of falling- asleep retreats and a sublime jubilation takes its place. The sacred hymn- writer offers a first explanation of the joyful side of the present Feast, when he says in falling asleep you did not abandon the world, o Theotokos. 1. According to the holy tradition this outlook and conviction, that the All- holy Theotokos did not abandon the faithful people of God after her falling asleep, was taught and suggested by her to the Apostles, and through the Apostles it was transmitted to subsequent generations including our own. Our Church has preserved from this tradition especially in her hymnology the main incidents in the falling asleep of the Theotokos. 3 The Forerunner August 2011 page 3 the Archangel (Gabriel), which is regarded as a second annunciation. It was indeed a joyful gospel message, because it informed her that she would soon meet again with her Son in heaven and stay with Him forever. The idea of death and the mystery of death itself which grips human beings with fear and agony when they encounter it, had no place in the thought and heart of the Theotokos. The reason for this was that she was completely driven by feelings of heavenly joy, since she realized that the time had come for her to be close to her Son once again. So, she immediately engaged in human preparations. She kissed good- by to her beloved relatives, distributed her meager belongings to pious women, and gave instructions concerning her funeral. Then a miraculous event took place: The Apostles, gathered at Gethsemane from the ends of the world, to bury her immaculate body, while she called upon the invisible presence of her Son, saying her final words and You, my Son and my God, receive my spirit. It was exactly in this way that the All- holy Theotokos delivered her spirit to the hands of the Lord, surrounded by the holy Apostles. 2. It was natural, humanly speaking, that the Apostles would express their sadness to her for her departure, and their sense of being orphaned now that, after the Ascension of the Lord that had preceded, they would be also deprived of the bodily presence and consolation of His all- holy Mother, whom, as is easy to understand, they regarded as their Mother as well; And also, that she would assure them that from heaven too she would continue to be near them and to support them maternally forever. It is also certain that for us Christians the same maternal support and protection from the all- holy Mother of the Lord is applicable; and that it would not be far from reality if we imagined that she addresses to us the same consoling words which the Lord had addressed earlier: It is to your advantage that I depart (John 16:7), I will not leave you orphaned (John 14:18). Indeed, we have many indications, that in falling asleep she did not abandon the world; because the Theotokos, being the Mother of Life was translated into Life. She who gave birth to the Leader of life as man, does not submit herself to death, but has passed from death into Life (John 5:24). As the sacred hymn writer expressly states, grave and mortification did not prevail over her, because as mother of life Christ led her into life. She did not remain in the grave. She was transported to heaven.

4 The Forerunner August 2011 page 4 death was swallowed up by victory, i.e. death was conquered in her person (I Cor. 15:54). 3. So, the All- holy Theotokos entered into her glory. As Mother of God she is glorified both in heaven and on earth by angels and human beings the Church triumphant in heaven and militant on the earth and she has been exalted to the height of glory by her Son. Having obtained maternal boldness towards Him she has the exceptional privilege to grant to the world protection and cover, i.e. her mediations and help to those who turn to her and invoke her name. She is our mediator towards Christ, i.e. supporting our prayers and supplications with maternal love and with a welcomed and potent intercession to Him on our behalf. Her constant and protecting advocacy is a given. As long as we pursue the way of holiness we attract her sympathy all the more; because it is easily understood and quite obvious that the All- holy Theotokos feels greater kinship with those who follow her path which is always the path of holiness. Consequently, we are called in this way to develop our own filial relation to Her, so as to prove ourselves being her genuine and beloved children, since He [Christ] who sanctifies and those [Christians] who are sanctified are all from One [Father] (Heb. 2:11) and become brothers of Christ and, therefore, children of His All- holy Mother. My dear fellow Christians, the life in Christ is crowned by the death in Christ (Falling- asleep); and both lead to eternal life and heavenly blessedness. Living according to Christ with such a direction and perspective, we, the celebrants of the All- holy Theotokos, will acquire in every step of our lives tangible verifications that The Superlatively holy Theotokos did not abandon the world when she fell asleep in the Lord.

5 The Forerunner August 2011 page 5 «Εν τη κοιμήσει τον κόσμον ου κατέλιπες» Του Μητροπολίτου Πατρών κυρού Νικοδήμου Διατελέσαντος Σχολάρχου της Θεολογικής Σχολής του Τιμίου Σταυρού Βοστώνης Η Kοίμηση της Υπεραγίας Θεοτόκου πανηγυρίζεται σήμερα από σύμπασα την Ορθοδοξία. Το πένθιμο γεγονός της Kοιμήσεως υποχωρεί και πανήγυρις λαμπρή επιτελείται. Ο ιερός υμνωδός δίνει μια πρώτη εξήγηση της χαρμόσυνης όψης της παρούσας γιορτής, όταν λέει «εν τη Κοιμήσει τον κόσμον ου κατέλιπες, Θεοτόκε». 1. Αυτό το φρόνημα και την πεποίθηση, ότι η Παναγία και μετά την Κοίμησή Της, δεν εγκατέλειψε τον πιστό λαό του Θεού, δίδαξε και ενέπνευσε η ίδια προς τους Αποστόλους, κατά την παράδοση, και δι εκείνων κηρύχθηκε στον κόσμο, και έφτασε από γενεά σε γενεά μέχρι εμάς. Η Εκκλησία μας διασώζει από την παράδοση και περιλαμβάνει στην ιερή υμνολογία τα κυριότερα περιστατικά της Kοιμήσεως της Θεοτόκου. Όταν ο Kύριος έκρινε ότι ήλθε το πλήρωμα του χρόνου να καλέσει από την γη στον ουρανό και να παραλάβει δίπλα Του την Παναγίαν Μητέρα Του, της έδωσε μήνυμα με άγγελο (πιθανότατα με τον αρχάγγελο Γαβριήλ),

6 The Forerunner August 2011 page 6 μήνυμα που αποτελεί για αυτήν έναν άλλο ευαγγελισμό. Γιατί πράγματι της ήταν χαρμόσυνο ευαγγέλιο η είδηση ότι σε λίγο θα συναντηθεί, αχώριστα πλέον, με τον Υιό Της, στον ουρανό. Η ιδέα του θανάτου αυτό καθ αυτό το μυστήριο του θανάτου, μπροστά στον οποίο οι άνθρωποι καταλαμβάνονται από φόβο και αγωνία δεν είχε καμία θέση στην σκέψη Της και στην καρδιά Της. Γιατί η Παναγία κυριαρχήθηκε τελείως από ουράνια σκιρτήματα χαράς, αφού έφτανε η ώρα για να βρεθεί και πάλι κοντά στον Υιό της. Έκανε βέβαια τις ανθρώπινες προετοιμασίες της, δηλ. τους αποχαιρετισμούς των αγαπητών της προσώπων και την διάθεση σε ευσεβείς γυναίκες των ελάχιστων προσωπικών της αντικειμένων, και έδωσε τις ιδιαίτερες οδηγίες για την κηδεία Της. Τότε λοιπόν έγινε και το θαυμαστό γεγονός: «Απόστολοι εκ περάτων, συναθροισθέντες Γεσθημανή τω χωρίω», κήδευσαν το πανάχραντο σώμα Της, ενώ Εκείνη επικαλούσε την αόρατη παρουσία του Υιού Της, λέγοντας ως τελευταία Της λόγια «και Συ, Υιέ και Θεέ μου, παράλαβέ μου το πνεύμα». Έτσι ακριβώς παρέδωσε η Παναγία Θεοτόκος το πνεύμα Της στα χέρια του Κυρίου, εν μέσω των Αποστόλων που την περικύκλωναν. 2. Ανθρωπίνως ήταν φυσικό, οι Απόστολοι να εκφράσουν σε Αυτήν την λύπη τους για τον αποχωρισμό, και το συναίσθημα ότι θα έμεναν ορφανοί τώρα που, μετά την προηγηθείσα Ανάληψη του Κυρίου στους ουρανούς, θα τους έλειπε αισθητά και η παρουσία και η παρηγοριά της παναγίας Μητέρας Του, την οποίαν, όπως είναι ευνόητο, θεωρούσαν και δική τους Μητέρα. Και προς εκείνους η Παναγία έδινε την διαβεβαίωση ότι και από τον ουρανό θα εξακολουθεί να είναι κοντά τους και να τους συμπαραστέκεται πάντοτε μητρικά. Αλλά είναι βέβαιο ότι και για εμάς τους χριστιανούς ισχύει εξίσου η μητρική κάλυψη και προστασία της Παναγίας Μητέρας του Κυρίου. Και ότι δεν θα είμαστε μακριά από την πραγματικότητα εάν Την φανταστούμε να μας απευθύνει τον παρήγορο λόγο του Υιού της «συμφέρει υμίν, ίνα εγώ απέλθω» (Ιωάν. 16:7). και «ουκ αφήσω υμάς ορφανούς» (Ιωάν. 14:18). Πράγματι, έχουμε πολλές ενδείξεις, ότι «εν τη Κοιμήσει τον κόσμο ου κατέλιπε,» γιατί η Παναγία «μετέστη προς της ζωήν, μήτηρ υπάρχουσα της ζωής.» Εκείνη που γέννησε ως άνθρωπο τον αρχηγό της ζωής, δεν υποκύπτει στον θάνατο, αλλά «μεταβέβηκεν εκ του θανάτου εις την ζωήν» (Ιω. 5:24). Όπως εκφραστικότατα ψάλει ο ιερός υμνωδός, «τάφος και νέκρωσις ουκ εκράτησεν, ως γαρ ζωής μητέρα προς την ζωήν μετέστησεν αυτήν ο Χριστός». Δεν έμεινε στον τάφο.

7 The Forerunner August 2011 page 7 Μετέστει στον ουρανό. «Κατεπόθη ο θάνατος εις νίκος». Κατανικήθηκε εν τω προσώπω Της ο θάνατος (Α Κορ. 15:54). 3. Η Παναγία έτσι εισήλθε στην δόξα Της. «Εν ουρανώ και επί γης δοξαζόμενη (ως) μήτηρ Θεού», υπό αγγέλων κα ανθρώπων υπό της εν ουρανώ «θριαμβευούσης» και της επί γης «στρατευομένης» Εκκλησίας υψώθηκε στο αποκορύφωμα της δόξας υπό του Υιού Της. Και «μητρικήν παρρησίαν προς Αυτόν κεκτημένη,» εξαιρέτως χαρίζει στον κόσμο την προστασία και την σκέπη Της, δηλ. τις πρεσβείες και την βοήθειά Της, στους προστρέχοντες και επικαλούμενους Αυτήν. Έχουμε Αυτήν «μεσίτρια» προς τον Χριστό, τ.έ. ενισχύουσαν τις προσευχές και παρακλήσεις μας με μητρική αγάπη και ευπρόσδεκτη και ισχυρή προς Αυτόν παρέμβαση υπέρ ημών. Είναι δεδομένη η συνεχής και υπέρμαχος προστασία Της. Εφόσον βρισκόμαστε στην οδό της αγιότητας, ελκύουμε περισσότερο την συμπάθειά Της. Γιατί είναι ευνόητο και εύλογο, η Παναγία να αισθάνεται κοντινότερη συγγένεια και σχέση και αγάπη προς εκείνους που ακολουθούν την γραμμή Της γραμμή αγιότητας πάντοτε. Με αυτό τον τρόπο, επομένως, καλούμαστε να αναπτύξουμε την υιική και θυγατρική σχέση μας προς Αυτήν, και να αποδειχθούμε γνήσια και προσφιλή τέκτα Της, καθώς «ο αγιάζων (Χριστός) και οι αγιαζόμενοι (χριστιανοί) εξ ενός (Πατρός) πάντες» (Εβρ. 2:11) γινόμαστε αδελφοί του Χριστού και άρα- τέκνα της Παναγίας Μητέρας Του. Αγαπητοί αδελφοί, η εν Χριστώ ζωή στέφεται από τον εν Κυρίω θάνατο («Κοίμησιν»). Και αμφότερα ακολουθεί «ζωή αιώνιος» και μακαριότης ουράνια. Ζώντας με τέτοια κατά Χριστό πορεία και προοπτική, εμείς οι εορταστές της Παναγίας, θα έχουμε σε κάθε βήμα της ζωής μας απτές διαπιστώσεις ότι «εν τη Κοιμήσει τον κόσμο ου κατέλιπεν» η Υπεραγία Θεοτόκος.

DRAGAS As the tradition of our Church teaches, the Falling asleep of the Theotokos took place at the house of John the Evangelist, where the All Holy Virgin stayed, together with his brother James and their mother Salome who was related to the Theotokos, according to the known consignment of Christ from the Cross (John 19:26-27). The Theotokos was informed about her imminent falling asleep by an angel three days before the event, and so she was able to prepare herself and to give her two garments to two widowed neighbors. When the All- holy Virgin fell asleep and her eyes were closed, the Apostles, who had been miraculously gathered together in Jerusalem from the ends of the earth, raised her bier and curried it to the garden of her family in Gethsemane, where her parents, Joachim and Anna, had been buried, and buried it there. During the transportation of the bier, fanatical Jews tried to overturn it, but they were miraculously blinded. Only one of them was able to touch the bier, but an invisible sword cut his two hands. Many of the faithful, however, on many occasions have raised the question: how old was our All- holy Lady when she fell asleep? To find the age of the Theotokos at the time of her falling asleep we need to take the events of her life one by one, as they are delivered by the New Testament and the tradition of our Church. 1. As regards the date of the birth of the Theotokos, the Menaia of the Church record according to the tradition the 8 th of September of the year 16 BC.

Her betrothal by Zachariah her relative (Luke 1:36) to Joseph who was also her relative (Luke 1:27 3:23ff), occurred when the All- holy Virgin was 14 years old. 3. Her Annunciation that she would give birth to the Son and Word of God by the Archangel Gabriel occurred in the year 1 BC, i.e. when the All- holy Virgin had completed her 15 th year. 4. Therefore, when she gave birth to our Lord Jesus Christ she was 16 years old. 5. At the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, in May of the year AD 33, the All- holy Virgin had completed het 48 th year and was present together with the Apostles at the Upper Room in Jerusalem (Acts 1:14, 2:1ff). All the above- mentioned pieces of information concerning the life of the All- holy Theotokos are supplied by Luke the Evangelist in his Gospel and in his book The Acts of the Apostles, in combination with the great and sacred events of the Church, because the All- holy Virgin was the most venerable person in the early Church as the Mother of our Savior and God. So, when in the year AD 48/49, another great and sacred event took place in the Church, the Apostolic Synod, Luke does not say whether our All- holy Lady was present. He does so, not out of contempt or irreverence towards her holy person but simply because by his silence he indicates that she had fallen asleep a little earlier than the summoning of the Apostolic Synod in AD 47 or 48/49. It would have been unthinkable and irrational if the first historian of the Church willfully ignored the Person who gave birth to the Redeemer of the world; the Person to whom human beings for over two thousand years have been turning, after God and regard Her as their indissoluble fortress and protection. The silence of Luke the Evangelist in this case means nothing else than that our All- holy Lady had fallen asleep. She fell asleep and was transported to heaven as the Mother of our God and our Mother to Life at the age of 62/63. The only Apostle who was absent from the funeral of the Theotokos was Thomas. However, when he arrived three days later and went to grave of the Theotokos, he did not find her body there but only her sepulcher clothes. At the grave of the Theotokos a magnificent temple was erected which is attributed to St. Helen. After the destruction of this temple the byzantine emperors Marcian ( ) and Pulcheria erre3cted the temple which still exists today. It was at this temple in Gethsemane that Saint John Damascene delivered his celebrated Orations on the Falling Asleep of the Theotokos. It is with him that we too sing today: Let us praise her today with sacred songs Let us honor her with an all- night vigil Let us thank her with purity of soul and body Let us cry with Gabriel, the first leader of the angels Hail, you through whom death is being pushed aside and life has been brought in (Oration II on the Dormition of the Theotokos, 16).

Κοντογιάννη Όπως διδάσκει η παράδοση της Εκκλησίας μας, η Κοίμηση της Θεοτόκου έγινε στο σπίτι του Ευαγγελιστού Ιωάννη όπου διέμενε η Παναγία καθώς και ο αδελφός του Ιάκωβος και η μητέρα τους η Σαλώμη η οποία ήταν συγγενής της Θεοτόκου, σύμφωνα με τη γνωστή παραγγελία του Χριστού από του Σταυρού (Ιωαν. 19:26-27). Την επικείμενη κοίμησή Της πληροφορήθηκε η Θεοτόκος τρεις μέρες πριν συμβεί από άγγελο, γι αυτό και προετοιμάστηκε και έδωσε τους δύο χιτώνες Της σε δύο γειτόνισσές Της χήρες. Όταν κοιμήθηκε η Παναγία και κλείστηκαν τα μάτια Της, οι Απόστολοι, οι οποίοι είχαν θαυματουργικά συναχθεί «εκ περάτων» στα Ιεροσόλυμα, σήκωσαν το νεκροκρέββατό Της και Την μετέφεραν στον κήπο της οικογένειάς Της, όπου είχαν ταφεί και οι γονείς Της, Ιωακείμ και Άννα στη Γεσθημανή, και εκεί την έθαψαν. Κατά την μεταφορά του λειψάνου της Θεοτόκου προς ενταφιασμό, φανατικοί Ιουδαίοι προσπάθησαν να ανατρέψουν το νεκροκρέββατο, αλλά τυφλώθηκαν θαυματουργικά. Μόνο ένας κατόρθωσε να ακουμπήσει το νεκροκρέββατο, αλλά αόρατη ρομφαία του έκοψε και τα δύο χέρια. Σε πολλούς όμως πιστούς, πολλές φορές, γεννιέται το ερώτημα: πόσων χρονών ήταν η Παναγία μας όταν κοιμήθηκε; Για να βρούμε την ηλικία που είχε η Θεοτόκος όταν κοιμήθηκε θα πάρουμε με τη σειρά τα γεγονότα της ζωής Της, όπως αυτά παραδίδονται από την Καινή Διαθήκη και την παράδοση της Εκκλησίας μας. 1. Ως ημερομηνία γεννήσεως της Θεοτόκου κατά την παράδοση που έχει καταγραφεί στα Μηναία της Εκκλησίας, θεωρείται η 8 η Σεπτεμβρίου του έτους 16 προ Χριστού.

11 The Forerunner August 2011 page Η μνήστευσή Της από τον προφήτη Ζαχαρία, ο οποίος ήταν συγγενής της (Λουκ. 1:36) με τον επίσης συγγενή Της Ιωσήφ (Λουκ. 1:27 και 3:23εξ.) έγινε όταν η Παναγία ήταν 14 ετών. 3. Ο Ευαγγελισμός Της από τον αρχάγγελο Γαβριήλ ότι θα γεννήσει τον Υιό και Λόγο του Θεού έλαβε χώρα το έτος 1 προ Χριστού, όταν δηλαδή η Παναγία είχε την ηλικία των 15 ετών συμπληρωμένη. 4. Επομένως, όταν γέννησε τον Κύριό μας Ιησού Χριστό ήταν 16 ετών. 5. Κατά την επιφοίτηση του Αγίου Πνεύματος την ημέρα της Πεντηκοστής, τον Μάιο του έτους 33 μετά Χριστόν, η Παναγία είχε συμπληρώσει τα 48 χρόνια της ζωής Της και τα είχε υπερβεί και βρισκόταν μαζί με τους Αποστόλους στο Υπερώο της Ιερουσαλήμ (Πραξ. 1:14, 2:1κ.εξ.). Όλες τις παραπάνω ειδήσεις για την ζωή της Παναγίας μας τις αναφέρει ο Ευαγγελιστής Λουκάς στο Ευαγγέλιό του και στο βιβλίο του Οι Πράξεις των Αποστόλων, σε συνδιασμό και σχέση πάντοτε με τα μεγάλα και ιερά γεγονότα της Εκκλησίας, γιατί η Παναγία ήταν το σεβαστότερο πρόσωπο στην πρώτη Εκκλησία ως μητέρα του Λυτρωτή και Θεού μας. Όταν, όμως, το έτος 48/49 μετά Χριστόν, έλαβε χώρα ένα άλλο μεγάλο και ιερό γεγονός στην Εκκλησία, η Αποστολική Σύνοδος, ο Λουκάς δεν μνημονεύει την Παναγία μας να παραβρίσκεται σ αυτή. Και δεν την αναφέρει όχι από περοφρόνηση ή ασέβεια προς το άγιο πρόσωπό Της, αλλά απλώς και μόνο γιατί με την σιωπή του αυτή θέλει να δηλώσει ότι η Παναγία είχε κοιμηθεί λίγο πριν από την συγκρότηση της Αποστολικής Συνόδου το 47 ή το 48/49 έτος μετά Χριστόν. Θα ήταν αδιανόητο και παράλογο ο πρώτος ιστορικός της Εκκλησίας, ο Ευαγγελιστής Λουκάς, να θέλει να αγνοήσει Εκείνην που γέννησε το Λυτρωτή του Κόσμου. Εκείνην προς την οποίαν οι άνθρωποι, δυό χιλιάδες χρόνια τώρα, «μετά Θεόν κατεφεύγουν» και την θεωρούν «άρρηκτο τείχος και προστασία» τους. Η σιωπή του Ευαγγελιστή Λουκά στην περίπτωση αυτή δε συμαίνει τίποτα άλλο παρά μόνο ότι η Παναγία μας είχε κοιμηθεί. Κοιμήθηκε και μετέστη στους ουρανούς προς την Ζωήν η Μητέρα του Θεού μας και δική μας Μητέρα σε ηλικία περίπου 62/63 χρονών. Από την κηδεία της Θεοτόκου απουσίαζε μόνο ο Ευαγγελιστής Θωμάς. Όταν έφτασε μετά από τρεις μέρες και πήγε στον τάφο της Θεοτόκου, δεν βρήκε το σώμα Της αλλά μόνο τα εντάφια. Στον τάφο της Παναγίας έχει ανεγερθεί μεγαλοπρεπής ναός αποδιδόμενος στην Αγία Ελένη. Μετά την καταστροφή του ναού αυτού οι βυζαντινοί αυτοκράτορες Μαρκιανός ( ) και Πουλχερία έχτισαν το ναό που υπάρχει μέχρι σήμερα. Στο ναό αυτό, στη Γεσθημανή, απήγγειλε τους περίφημους λόγους του στην Κοίμηση της Θεοτόκου ο άγιος Ιωάννης ο Δαμασκηνός μαζί με τον οποίο και εμείς «Ταύτην άσμασιν ιεροίς ευφημήσωμεν σήμερον Ταύτην παννύχοις τιμήσωμεν στάσεσι Ταύτην ψυχής τε και σώματος αγνότητι τέρψωμεν... Μετά Γαβριήλ, του των αγγέλων πρωτοστάτου, βοήσωμεν: Χαίροις δι ης παρωθείται μεν θάνατος, η δε ζωή εισεκεκόμισται» (Αγ. Ιωάννου Δαμασκηνού Γ Λόγος εις την Κοίμησιν 16).

Παρασκευή και Σαββατοκύριακο Σεπτεµβρίου Ελάτε να απολαύσετε νόστιµα ελληνικά φαγητά και γλυκίσµατα, ελληνική µουσική, πλούσια αγορά και προ πάντων την ελληνική ψυχική ζεστασιά. Ζητούµε εθελοντές σε διάφορα πόστα για να κάνουµε το φετινό Φεστιβάλ ακόµη πιο επιτυχές από το περσινό. ü Προσφέρετε εθελοντικά εργασία πριν από το Φεστιβάλ: I. Πουλήστε, αγοράστε και επιστρέψτε όλους τους λαχειοφόρους λαχνούς που έχουν ταχυδροµηθεί στο σπίτι σας. Ελάτε να πάρετε επιπλέον λαχνούς αν µπορείτε να τους πουλήσετε. II. Βοηθήστε στο να βρεθούν δωρεές, προσφορές και δωρητές για το Φεστιβάλ. III. Βοηθήστε στην διαφήµιση του Φεστιβάλ τοιχοκολλώντας αφίσες. IV. Προσκαλέστε την οικογένεια σας και τους φίλους σας στο Φεστιβάλ. ü Προσφέρετε εθελοντικά εργασία κατά τη διάρκεια του Φεστιβάλ: I. Βοηθήστε στην παρασκευή του φαγητού. II. Βοηθήστε στο ψήσιµο και σερβίρισµα του φαγητού III. Βοηθήστε να ετοιµάσουµε το χώρο πριν το Φεστιβάλ και να καθαρίσουµε µετά το Φεστιβάλ. Και κυρίως ελάτε στο Φεστιβάλ για να απολαύσετε καλό φαγητό, µουσική και την παρέα της οικογένειας, των φίλων και των γνωστών σας. Η Ενορία µας χρειάζεται την βοήθεια όλων µας.

14 The Forerunner August 2011 page 14 COMMUNITY NEWS OUR FESTIVAL IS APROACHING Friday, Saturday & Sunday September 16-18, 2011, South End Greek Food Festival Come to enjoy homemade Greek food and pastry, Greek Music & the Bazaar, and above all the warmth of Greek friendship in our New Community Hall. Volunteers are needed in a number of areas to make this year s festival even more successful than last year s. ü Volunteer before the Festival: ü I. Sell, buy and return all Festival Raffle tickets mailed to you. Come pick up more tickets if you can sell them. II. Help secure donations and sponsors for the Festival III. Help us advertise the by putting up posters to local businesses and bulletin boards. IV. Invite family and friends to our Festival Volunteer during the Festival: I. Help us with the food preparation II. Help us to grill and serve during the Festival III. Help us set up before and clean up after the Festival And most importantly come to the Festival and enjoy good food, music and the company of family and friends.
