We have a Father who waits to receive us with joy a running Father who is eager to give us the best robe, the best shoes, a ring, and a roast veal dinner with dancing to welcome us home. So, if you fall, don t give up; get up and return to the Father. He will take you back, not as a criminal but as an honored guest! For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost, said Jesus. After Adam and Eve sinned they were ashamed and hid from God. But God is pictured as walking through the garden calling Adam, where are you? The rest of the Bible may be seen as a record of God s search. Our task is not to search for God. The parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son show that God is already out searching for us. Our task, like that of the prodigal son, is to respond to God s search for us, to move out of the barnyard, to take the first step toward Him in repentance, faith, and commitment. As in Paradise, God walks in the Holy Scriptures, searching for man, said St. Ambrose. It is not only in Holy Scriptures that God searches for us. He searches also through the voice of conscience; He searches for us through the sorrows and tragedies of life; He searches for us through the emptiness of life without Him. Yes, and even through your reading this meditation today, He searches and thirsts for you always!!

He might hit the stone a hundred times with no apparent effect, but on the hundred and first strike, the stone would crack. The point is, the hundred and first blow did not crack the stone by itself; it was the cumulative effect of the hundred blows before which brought the results. That is the way our moments and our days work. Sometimes it seems we make no progress. Sometimes it seems all our efforts are useless, but we keep trying; we struggle without giving up. Then one day, the victory we have sought belongs to us. It was not that final effort it was all those efforts that went before. The Bible is full of examples of saints who persevered in the race of life. They had a staying power that came from their faith; a faith that kept its eyes fastened on Jesus: Looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. One of the greatest of these saints was St. Paul who, when he reached the end of his life, said what I hope and pray each one of us will be able to say one day when the end comes for us, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing (2 Tim. 4:7-8).

WARM UP AMERICA Almost every Monday morning, ladies of our Greek Orthodox Church meet either in the breezeway or in the library to knit and crochet for many different charities. We then deliver them to Brenner Children's Hospital, the Shelter for Abused Women, SCAN, many different nursing homes and to our own members when needed. We have recently given them to be delivered by the police to the homeless who have nowhere to go and sleep under bridges and other similar places. The items we knit are afghans, lap robes, caps, scarves, booties (for babies) and bags to go on walkers. These items take a lot of yarn. We are asking you ladies who have knit or crocheted in the past, and no longer do so, to see if you have any unused yarn you might be willing to donate. It would be very much appreciated as we are almost out of our supply. It is heart warming to see how the eyes, of the persons receiving these articles, light up with joy and appreciation that someone has thought of them as they are going through difficult times or are having to adjust to living in nursing or assisted living homes. We also invite you to join us if you would like to. We not only enjoying helping others with our work, but have gained a fellowship with those who are in our circle, and have benefited by getting to know each other, making wonderful friendships by participating in this mission. We had many Christmas Socials, Trip to the Biltmore and we took a group to deliver meals on Sunday for H.O.P.E. In November we had our Wine Tasting/General meeting at the home of Dino and Leigh Cortesis. I truly believe that after all the hard work that we all put into the bake sale, that having this is the perfect way for everyone to just relax and be able to socialize and form new friendships with each other. Thank you Leigh for opening your home to all of us! For our December Christmas Social Effie Davis and Kim Karahalios were our chairs for this event, and what a wonderful job they did as always. Oso Eats catered this event for us, and the food was delicious. Our Senior Citizens Luncheon is our way of letting our Senior Citizens know how much we love and appreciate them. This gives us a chance to give back to them, since they all have given so much to all of us. It was a wonderful dinner and everyone had a good time just being together. Helen Karagiorgis and Rene Kortesis were our chairs this year and they did an outstanding job of pulling this all together. Our elves this year that helped were Penny Kaliviotis, Olga Kangelaris and Maria Blevins. Jimmy s Seafood was our caterer for our Senior Citizens Luncheon, and what another delicious meal we had. This month we also went on a day trip to Biltmore House. I want to thank Maria Blevins and Maria Mathes for putting this together for us. We had a great turn out and boy what fun did we have! So much so that I heard everyone asking when our next trip will be and where can we go? I do believe this is something we can do again and that we should do again. So we are open for suggestions! January 4 th we will have our Vasilopita Luncheon 100% of the net proceeds will go to St Basils Academy. We all know that when we go up to get a piece of Vasilopita, that we give a donation for that piece. This is the perfect time to explain to your child that by doing this, they are helping another child in need. These children do not have a mother or father to help them out with some of the small things that we take for granted. By giving to them allows them to have a warm bed to sleep in, food on their table, clothes and shoes to wear to school and most of all people there that will care for them and love them. So please come out and help support this event. Our next general meeting will be January 14th th and we will present out 2015 Budget. 8 H.O.P.E (Help Our People Eat) is a program that serves over 700 bag lunches every Sunday to children in Winston-Salem who sometimes goes without a meal on the weekend. They also hand out over 700 lbs of produce to the adults, who most of the times do not have access to fresh produce. Last month we took a group from our church to help deliver meals on a Sunday. Our church was in charge of that Sunday and we were responsible for loading the truck, driving the route, handing out meals and produce and then unloading and cleaning up. We met at 12:15 and then we were through around 4:00 pm. I know the whole group that went were touched by what they saw and how wonderful it felt to be able to help others. Many have never been to that side of town, and never knew that out city had areas that were in that much need of help. As some told me It was an eye opening experience We will be doing this again soon and we will have a calendar out to let you know what Sunday s we will be in charge of. We still need people to sign up on Saturday s to help make sandwiches. We do this every 11:00 am in the church s kitchen. It only takes about 40 min. to do this. In addition to making the bag lunches we will also take on some Sunday s right after church to deliver the meals. We need parent drivers and GOYANs to participate. The more teams we have the quicker the process will be. This is really a fun event. It is an opportunity for our youth to meet and talk with church members that they may not normally have an opportunity to see. THANKS!!! To all who are helping out with the Winter Youth Rally in Atlanta. We have two volleyball teams, two basketball teams, and three Bible Bowl teams participating! The donations will be distributed to those students and families in need by the WS/FC School Social Workers. Many families will benefit from your donations. Our students performed beautifully at the Stewardship Luncheon, we thank Connie Marshall and Sandy Smalling for their dedication to the Angel Choir.
