John Romas (914) Ήχος Βαρύς Grave Tone Sunday September 27th, 2015-Κυριακή 27 Σεπτεμβρίου, st Sunday of Luke In today s Gospel reading St. Peter with the rest of the holy Apostles were astonished at the catch of fish which they had caught. Christ our Lord had sat in St. Peter s boat and was teaching the people. The Disciples had worked very hard all night long, but they had caught nothing. St. Peter at the commandment of Christ let down the net and then God s blessings came, for "they caught a great number of fish" (Luke 5:6). Obedience to God s Will is man s first and foremost duty. Second most important is to carry out His Divine Commandments. The godly man strives to conform himself to whatever God wishes. Man through obedience to God identifies himself with God, and his will with God s Divine Will. The holy Apostle Peter at the greatest moment of his difficult hours of disappointment and depression, showed obedience to Christ. The result is obvious. God blesses the work of all those who struggle with honesty. In our daily struggle to survive there are some moments, when we feel let down. Many times despair and dissolution overcome our hearts, when we hope for some things that do not come right. How many times do we turn to God and not see any results? Did God not hear our prayers? Is He relaxing in His Heavenly Kingdom and does not care for us? No! The answer to these questions lie in that we must not only turn to God, but we must also learn to trust God. St. Peter not only accepted Christ in his fishing boat, but also showed absolute obedience to His commandment. Without a second discussion he threw the nets into the shallow waters of Gennesaret. Because of his obedience God blessed his work. Now, how many times does it happen in our life that we accept Christ not in our boat, but in our hearts, but we are not obedient to Him? How many times do we say that we believe in the Lord, but, yet, we have not made the effort to bow and humble ourselves before Him? How many times do we pray to God, but within our hearts we do not learn to trust Him? How many times do we find ourselves in difficult situations and we ask for God s help and assistance, but in reality we do not believe in His Providence? How many times do we believe that God will interfere, like magic, to fulfil our wishes? Finally, how many times, when we see no results of Divine intervention, we turn away from God? St. Peter was blessed, because he showed obedience to Christ. God s blessings came as the result of Peter s obedience to His Will. The miracle at Gennesaret came about because of St. Peter s faithfulness. St. Peter knew very well, being an experienced fisherman, that there could be no fish in the shallow waters of Gennesaret. All night long he worked with his collaborafors and, yet, they caught nothing. But, he showed obedience to Christ s word and he let down the nets. For Christ s sake he did not hesitate. He did not say, that We are wasting our time. He just obeyed and trusted Christ s word. We all work hard. We all run here and there and we struggle to build up our businesses. Some even work after hours even at night. We all strive for our daily bread. But, how many times do we lack success? One works for so many years and puts in his work so much time and money, but at the end he sees everything collapsing. What is the reason? Is it because there is lack of cleverness? Is it because of lack of interest or concern for one s work? Is it because of evil men sabotaging the work of others? All these reasons are possible. But, the main reason is the lack of true faith and trust in God. In our times, man has learned not to trust God or anyone else, but only himself. We have not surrendered ourselves completely to God s Divine Providence or we lack of true faith. This is one of the main reason why many Christians do not come every Sunday to Church. Lack of faith is the spiritual illness of today s society. Lack of faith has as its result that we do not pray every day or even if we do so, then our hearts are not turned to God, but wonder here and there. Lack of faith is the reason why we do not obey God s Commandments and we do not trust ourselves in His Will. Lack of faith is the reason why man does not believe in God and His Teachings. Lack of faith is the reason why man turns to evil deeds and is disobedient to God s Word. If we wish to have God s blessings in our homes, our works and our lives, then we have to turn to Him, bow before Him and trust ourselves to His Divine Providence. Let us imitate St. Peter s example. Let us show trust and faith in Christ, our Lord and Savior. Let us practice God s Commandments. Let us be obedient to His Divine Will. This way of life will bring upon us God s blessings. This is the way for our salvation, to be before God and surrender ourselves to Him.

O Father and Hierarch Nicholas, intercede with Christ God that our souls be saved. Verse: God is known in Judah; his name is great in Israel. St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 6:16-18; 7:1 BRETHREN, you are the temple of the living God; as God said, "I will live in them and move among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore come out from them, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch nothing unclean; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, and make holiness perfect in the fear of God. Κατὰ Λουκᾶν 5:1-11 Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, ἑστὼς ὁ Ἰησοῦς παρὰ τὴν λίμνην Γεννησαρέτ, καὶ εἶδε δύο πλοῖα ἑστῶτα παρὰ τὴν λίμνην οἱ δὲ ἁλιεῖς ἀποβάντες ἀπ αὐτῶν ἀπέπλυναν τὰ δίκτυα. ἐμβὰς δὲ εἰς ἓν τῶν πλοίων, ὃ ἦν τοῦ Σίμωνος, ἠρώτησεν αὐτὸν ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς ἐπαναγαγεῖν ὀλίγον καὶ καθίσας ἐδίδασκεν ἐκ τοῦ πλοίου τοὺς ὄχλους. ὡς δὲ ἐπαύσατο λαλῶν, εἶπε πρὸς τὸν Σίμωνα ἐπανάγαγε εἰς τὸ βάθος καὶ χαλάσατε τὰ δίκτυα ὑμῶν εἰς ἄγραν. καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Σίμων εἶπεν αὐτῷ ἐπιστάτα, δι ὅλης τῆς νυκτὸς κοπιάσαντες οὐδὲν ἐλάβομεν ἐπὶ δὲ τῷ ῥήματί σου χαλάσω τὸ δίκτυον. καὶ τοῦτο ποιήσαντες συνέκλεισαν πλῆθος ἰχθύων πολύ διερρήγνυτο δὲ τὸ δίκτυον αὐτῶν. καὶ κατένευσαν τοῖς μετόχοις τοῖς ἐν τῷ ἑτέρῳ πλοίῳ τοῦ ἐλθόντας συλλαβέσθαι αὐτοῖς καὶ ἦλθον καὶ ἔπλησαν ἀμφότερα τὰ πλοῖα, ὥστε βυθίζεσθαι αὐτά. ἰδὼν δὲ Σίμων Πέτρος προσέπεσε τοῖς γόνασιν Ιησοῦ λέγων ἔξελθε ἀπ ἐμοῦ, ὅτι ἀνὴρ ἁμαρτωλός εἰμι, Κύριε θάμβος γὰρ περιέσχεν αὐτὸν καὶ πάντας τοὺς σὺν αὐτῷ ἐπὶ τῇ ἄγρᾳ τῶν ἰχθύων ᾗ συνέλαβον, ὁμοίως δὲ καὶ Ιάκωβον καὶ Ιωάννην, υἱοὺς Ζεβεδαίου, οἳ ἦσαν κοινωνοὶ τῷ Σίμωνι. καὶ εἶπε πρὸς τὸν Σίμωνα ὁ Ιησοῦς μὴ φοβοῦ ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν ἀνθρώπους ἔσῃ ζωγρῶν. καὶ καταγαγόντες τὰ πλοῖα ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν, ἀφέντες ἅπαντα ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ. The Gospel of Luke 5:1-11 At that time, Jesus was standing by the lake of Gennesaret. And he saw two boats by the lake; but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. And when he had ceased speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch." And Simon answered, "Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets." And when they had done this, they enclosed a great shoal of fish; and as their nets were breaking, they beckoned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord." For he was astonished, and all who were with him, at the catch of fish which they had taken; and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; henceforth you will be catching men." And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.

6 Γέροντας Σωφρόνιος: Να γίνει ο Θεός η ζωή μας. Κράτησε πριν απ' όλα τη μνήμη του Θεού και την ειρήνη της καρδιάς. Το τελευταίο είναι ιδιαίτερα σημαντικό για σένα, εφόσον δεν το κατέχεις ισχυρά. Πρόσεχε, μη δαπανάς χωρίς όφελος τις λίγες σωματικές σου δυνάμεις. Για να βρεις τον σωστό δρόμο, είναι καλύτερο απ' όλα να το ζητήσεις από τον ίδιο τον Θεό στην προσευχή: «Κύριε, Συ ο ίδιος δίδαξε με τα πάντα. Δώσε μου τη χαρά της γνώσεως του θελήματός Σου και των οδών Σου. Δίδαξέ με να Σε αγαπώ αληθινά με όλο μου το είναι, όπως μας παρήγγειλες. Οικοδόμησε τη ζωή μου έτσι, όπως Εσύ ο Ίδιος την συνέλαβες στην προαιώνια βουλή Σου. Ναι, ακόμη και για μένα, γιατί Εσύ κανέναν δεν ξέχασες και κανέναν δεν έπλασες για απώλεια. Εγώ με αφροσύνη εκδαπάνησα τις δυνάμεις που μου έδωσες, αλλά τώρα, στο τέλος της ζωής μου, διόρθωσέ τα όλα Εσύ ο ίδιος, και ο ίδιος δίδαξε με τα πάντα. Αλλά έτσι, ώστε πραγματικά το θέλημά Σου να πραγματοποιηθεί στη ζωή μου, είτε εγώ το καταλαβαίνω είτε δεν το καταλαβαίνω μέχρι καιρού. Μην επιτρέπεις να πορευθώ σε ξένους δρόμους, που οδηγούν στο σκοτάδι. αλλά πριν παραδοθώ στον ύπνο του θανάτου, δώσε σε μένα την ανάξια να δω το Φως Σου, ω Φως του κόσμου». Κι έτσι, με δικά σου λόγια, να προσεύχεσαι για όλα με τον ίδιο τρόπο. Θα περάσει κάποιος χρόνος και η δύναμη των λόγων αυτών θα εισχωρήσει στο εσωτερικό της υπάρξεώς σου, και τότε θα ρεύσει αυτομάτως ζωή, όπως ακριβώς θέλει ο Κύριος. Κρίνοντας όμως εξωτερικά δεν μπορούμε να αποφασίσουμε τίποτε.αλήθεια, όλο το νόημα της ζωής βρίσκεται στο να ζει ο νους και η καρδιά μας με τον Θεό να γίνει ο Θεός η ζωή μας. Αυτό και μόνο ο ίδιος ζητά. Γι' αυτό και δημιουργηθήκαμε, για να ζήσουμε τη ζωή Του, και μάλιστα σε όλη την απειρότητά της. Ο λόγος αυτός μπορεί να μας τρομάζει όταν βλέπουμε την τωρινή οικτρή κατάστασή μας, αλλά έτσι είναι, και δεν πρέπει να χάσουμε την πίστη αυτή. Ένας από τους μεγαλύτερους κινδύνους είναι να υποβιβάσουμε και να μειώσουμε την ιδέα του Θεού για τον άνθρωπο. Το κάθε πάθημά μας, ακόμη και το άδικο, το γνωρίζει ο Θεός. Γνωρίζει και συμπάσχει μαζί μας. Είναι απαραίτητο να δημιουργήσουμε "προσωπικές" σχέσεις μαζί Του, σχεδόν "ανθρώπινες".ελπίζω ότι με αντιλαμβάνεσαι. Καταλαβαίνεις ότι με τον όρο αυτό εννοώ τον εσωτερικό, ενδόμυχο σύνδεσμο με τον Θεό.Γιατί ο όλος άνθρωπος κλήθηκε για τη ζωή εν Αυτώ, δηλαδή όχι μόνο η ανώτερη ικανότητά του για θεωρία, το "πνεύμα", αλλά και τα αισθήματα, η ψυχή, ακόμη και το σώμα. Να ακόμη μία προσευχή:«κύριε Ιησού Χριστέ, Μονογενές Υιέ του Ανάρχου Σου Πατρός, διάνοιξε τους οφθαλμούς της εσκοτισμένης ψυχής μου, για να δω συνετά Εσένα, τον Δημιουργό και Θεό μου.»σε παρακαλώ: Μη με απορρίψεις από το Πρόσωπό Σου, αλλά, παραβλέποντας όλη την αθλιότητά μου, όλην την ταπεινότητά μου, φανέρωσε μου το Φως Σου, ω Φως του κόσμου, και δος μου να γνωρίσω την αγάπη Σου προς τον άνθρωπο.»ω, γλυκύτατε Χριστέ, που εξαπέστειλες από τον Πατέρα στους αγίους μαθητές και Αποστόλους Σου το Πνεύμα το Άγιο, αυτό, Αγαθέ, κατάπεμψε και σε μας τους αναξίους και έτσι δίδαξέ μας τη γνώση Σου και φανέρωσέ μας τις οδούς της σωτηρίας Σου.»Λάμψε σε μένα, ο Θεός, ο Θεός μου, το Φως Σου το αληθινό, για να δω και εγώ στο Φως Σου τη Δόξα Σου ως Μονογενούς παρά Πατρός, και να μορφωθεί μέσα μου η Εικόνα Σου η ακατάληπτη, σύμφωνα με την οποία δημιούργησες κατ' αρχάς τον άνθρωπο.»ω, ο Θεός, ο Σωτήρας μου, το Φως του νου μου και το κραταίωμα της ψυχής μου, ας σκηνώσει σε μένα η αγαθό τητά Σου, για να παραμένω και εγώ αδιάλειπτα σε Σένα, φέροντας παντοτινά μέσα μου το Πνεύμα Σου το Άγιο, ώστε να δώσει σε μένα να ομοιωθώ μαζί Σου, τον μόνο Κύριο μου, όπως ομοιώθηκαν μαζί Σου όλοι οι ανά τους αιώνες άγιοί Σου.»Ναι, Κύριε Ιησού Χριστέ, κατά την αμετάθετη επαγγελία Σου, έλα μαζί με τον Πατέρα και το Πνεύμα το Άγιο και σκήνωσε μέσα μου».
