WARNING! Read all safety directions and instructions. Omissions in the compliance with safety directions and instructions can cause electrical shock, fire and/or severe injuries. Retain all safety directions and instructions for future use. The term power tool in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool. Work area safety Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable Iiquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control. 9

GB Electrical safety Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock. Personal safety Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. The use of other batteries may result in injuries and risk of fire. Keep the unused battery away from paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws and other small metal objects, which could cause bridging of the contacts. A short circuit between the battery contacts may cause burns or fire. If used incorrectly, liquid may leak from the battery. Avoid contact with this. In the event of accidental contact, rinse off with water. If the liquid gets into eyes, seek medical assistance. Leaking battery fluid may cause skin irritations or burns. Service Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained. 11

GB Causes and operator prevention of kickback a Bild 1 Beware of kickback! Be careful of kickback of the machine during work. There is danger of injury here. You can avoid kickbacks by exercising caution and using a correct sawing technique. b Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut (cf. fig. b). Tip contact in some cases may cause a sudden reverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up and back towards the operator (cf. fig. a). Pinching the saw chain along the top of the guide bar may push the guide bar rapidly back towards the operator. Either of these reactions may cause you to lose control of the saw which could result in serious personal injury. Do not rely exclusively upon the safety devices built into your saw. As a chain saw user, you should take several steps to keep your cutting jobs free from accident or injury. Kickback is the result of tool misuse and/ or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below: Maintain a firm grip, with thumbs and fingers encircling the chain saw handles, with both hands on the saw and position your body and arm to allow you to resist kickback forces. Kickback forces can be controlled by the operator, if proper precautions are taken. Do not let go of the chain saw. Do not overreach and do not cut above shoulder height. This helps prevent unintended tip contact and enables better control of the chain saw in unexpected situations. Only use replacement bars and chains specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect replacement bars and chains may cause chain breakage and/ or kickback. Follow the manufacturer s sharpening and maintenance instructions for the saw chain. Decreasing the depth gauge height can lead to increased kickback. Follow instructions for lubricating, chain tensioning and changing accessories. Improperly tensioned or lubricated chain may either break or increase the chance for kickback. Do not saw with the point of the blade (cf. fig. b) or above shoulder height. Do not lean over too far during the sawing operation. Ensure that there are no objects lying around on the ground that you can trip over. Further safety directions Keep the equipment, cutting attachments and protective blade cover in good condition in order to prevent injury. 12

GB Ensure during any location change that the saw chain is secured with the chain brake and the chainsaw is switched off and the finger does not contact the On/Off switch. Carry the cordless pruner with the chain and chain bar pointing to the rear. Attach the chain guard for transporting the cordless pruner. If dropped, check the equipment for significant damage or defects. Never start the cordless pruner before the chain bar, saw chain and sprocket chain wheel covering are correctly assembled. The cordless pruner is designed for two-handed operation. Never work with one hand or above shoulder height. Hold the power tool only on the insulated handle surfaces, as the saw chain can come into contact with concealed power lines or the mains cable to the equipment. Contact between the saw chain and a live wire can make metal parts of the equipment live and cause an electric shock. Ensure you have a secure stance during sawing. Do not work on a ladder, in the tree or on unstable locations. Be very cautious carrying out work on a slope. Keep your working area tidy. Only start work if your working area is free from obstruction and you have planned a safe path of escape when felling timber. Place the claw stop securely with every cut and do not begin with the sawing before this. Be extremely careful during sawing small bushes and branches. The thin branch thicket can snag in the saw and whip in your direction or make you unbalanced. Do not cut wood that is lying on the ground. Pay attention to a possible spring-back during the sawing of a branch which is under stress, if the stress force of the wood is suddenly released. Danger of injury exists. Check the safety status of the cordless pruner, in particular the chain bar, chain brake and the chain, before use. In the event that the cutting attachment becomes jammed or stuck in the branches, do not attempt to free the equipment with the use of force. Switch off the equipment immediately and restart it only after clearing the blockage. There is a risk of injury! Residual risks Even if properly operating and handling this electric tool, some residual risks will remain. Due to its construction and build, this electric tool may present the following hazards: a) Cuts b) Ear damage if working without ear protection. c) Damage to your health caused by swinging your hands and arms when operating the appliance for longer periods of time or if the unit is not held or maintained properly. Special safety directions for battery-operated tools Ensure that the device is switched off before inserting the battery. Inserting a battery into a power tool that is switched on may result in accidents. 13

GB Sawing techniques Be thoroughly aware of the danger of rebounding branches. Sawing Off Small Branches Set your saw cut of smaller branches (Ø 0-8 cm) from top to bottom, as illustrated. Be aware of early breaking of the branch if you have underestimated the size and weight. Be completely aware of the falling cut material Sawing Off Larger Branches For controlled sawing of larger branches (Ø 8-20 cm), first select a relief cut (see cutting a). This is made from below. Saw a notch in the lower third of the branch. The actual length cut (see cutting b) is again made from the top, as far as possible in line with the first cut so that the two cuts meet. Sawing Off Parts For large/long branches, sawing off in parts is recommended (see cutting a, b, c). c b a This is the only way to safely ensure the point of impact of the cut material. Clear away from the area in which you are standing any parts that have already been cut and are lying on the ground. 20

GB Cleaning/Maintenance Cleaning Turn off the appliance and, before doing any servicing, remove the battery. When handling the cutting equipment, wear safety gloves. In this way, you avoid cutting damages. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents. You may otherwise irreparably damage the appliance. Keep clean the ventilation slots, motor housing and handles of the appliance. Use a damp cloth or a brush. Saw chain ( 1) is to be wiped only with a dry cloth. General maintenance Leave any maintenance and servicing work not covered by this manual to our Service-Center. Use only original spare parts. Check covers and safety devices for damages and correct installation. Replace as necessary. Carefully perform the maintenance tasks listed in the table on a regular basis (see Maintenance intervals ). Resharpening of the saw chain Leave the resharpening of a saw chain to an expert or proceed according to the instructions of your saw chain sharpener. Resharpening a saw chain takes some practice. If in doubt, replacing the saw chain is preferable. Storage Clean the equipment before putting it away. Put on blade cover ( 21). Always empty the oil tank before pauses in operation lasting several weeks because the biological chain oil can become resinous and block the oil outlet channel. Dispose of used oil in an environmentally correct manner. Store the device in a dry, frost-free, and dust-protected place and out of reach of children. Remove the battery before storing the unit for longer periods of time (e.g. hibernation). Store the battery only in a partially charged state. The state of charge should be % over a longer storage period (two LED lights of the state of charge display ( 11b light up green). During a longer storage period, check the state of charge of the battery and recharge if necessary roughly every 3 months. In order to keep the battery well charged, avoid exposing the appliance to extreme heat or cold in storage. Store the equipment between 10 C and 25 C. During storage, avoid extreme cold or heat so the battery does not lose power. Because there is a ventilation opening in the oil tank lid, it cannot always be excluded that oil is emitted in all device positions. It is therefore advisable to empty the oil tank before each storage period. 21

GB Waste disposal and environmental protection Empty the oil tank carefully, remove the battery from the device and take the device, used oil, battery, accessories and packaging for environmentally friendly recycling. Machines do not belong with domestic waste. Do not dispose of batteries in household waste, fire (risk of explosion) or water. Damaged batteries may damage the environment and your health if toxic fumes or liquids leak out. Return the unit to a recycling centre. Dispose of batteries in discharged condition. We recommend covering the pole with adhesive tape to prevent a short circuit. Do not open up the battery. Dispose of batteries in accordance with the local regulations. Take batteries to an old battery collection point where they will be recycled in an environmentally friendly manner. For information about this, ask your local waste management company or our service centre. Dispose of used oil in an environmentally correct manner - bring it to a waste disposal center. Do not dispose of used oil in the sewage system or drains. Defective units returned to us will be disposed of for free. 22
