St Vasilios Goes Skiing Sunday River Ski Resort Maine March INFORMATIONAL MEETING AND ICE CREAM SOCIAL FOR ALL ON MONDAY FEB. 1, 2016 AT 7PM IN THE PARLOR ROOM TO DISCUSS THE SKI TRIP, AND UPCOMING GOYA EVENTS! This year the St Vasilios Parish will be hosting a weekend of skiing for all parishioners, Jr and Sr Goya, families, and friends at Sunday River Ski Resort in Maine on March 18-20, Jr and Sr Goya members will participate in a retreat and stay at the Snow Cap Dorms. The cost for the weekend is $ per GOYAn, This includes the bus fee, all accommodations in the ski dorm including two breakfasts and one dinner, and the cost of a weekend lift ticket. Down load the attached packet for all of the necessary information and forms that you will need. Adults, friends and families (with children younger than GOYA age) will stay at either the Snow Cap Inn or the Summit Hotel. There will be Greek entertainment on Sat Night as well as a Liturgy on Sunday morning. The cost for the weekend is from $135 per person quad occupancy. PANAGIA S GARDEN SUMMER DAY CAMP PROGRAM This year our program will run from Monday, August 1-Friday, August 5th from 9am-4pm. Children ages 4-10 are welcome to attend. 3 GREEK ORTHODOX ARCHDIOCESE OF AMERICA UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE NEW YORK Applications and instructions for three scholarships administered by the Department of Philanthropy of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America are available for awards to be made for the academic year. The George & Naouma (Gioule) Gioles Scholarship and the Katina John Malta Scholarship are for undergraduate studies, and the Paleologos Scholarship is awarded for graduate work of a non-theological nature. Each of these scholarships was established through generous gifts from dedicated Greek Orthodox Christians who wanted to provide financial assistance towards the education of young people from our Orthodox Christian community. But she came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me." And he answered, "It is not fair to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." 6 HOSPITAL VISITS Due to HIPAA privacy rules, hospitals no longer provide a list of Orthodox patients to us. Therefore, if you or a loved one are, or will be, in the hospital, please contact the church office for a pastoral visit. Also, please notify the office if a friend or family member is in a rehab center, nursing home, assisted living facility or under hospice care. COFFEE FELLOWSHIP HOUR Please join us for Coffee Fellowship Hour today immediately following the first divine liturgy in the Educational Center. Today's coffee fellowship is fully sponsored by Niki Celo in loving memory of her husband, Stephanos Celo. WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS Everyone is welcome in the Orthodox Church and may receive the blessed bread (antidoron) at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy. Sadly, the divisions in the church prompt us all to work towards reunited Christianity. The culmination of this reunion will be the ability of all Christians to receive the Eucharist together. Until that blessed day arrives, only Orthodox Christians who are in good sacramental order are permitted to receive Holy Communion in the Orthodox Church. Save the date for our next Joy Family Fun and Fellowship Night: Friday, February 26th, 5-7:30 in the Parlor Room USING KNEELERS IN CHURCH Please exercise care when lowering your kneeler in Church. If you are using your foot to lower the kneeler please have your foot support the kneeler until it gently touches the floor. The multiple banging of the kneelers is a great distraction at the most solemn moment of the Divine Liturgy. Thank you for your attention to this issue. SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT In an initiative by the city of Peabody and Fr Chris to help the homeless in our community, we will be selling soups once a month at coffee hour to help pay for food, clothing, laundry and whatever other needs that they may have. 100% of the proceeds will go to this worthy cause.
