4 English GENERAL SAFETY RULES WARNING! Read all instructions Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. The term power tool in all of the warnings listed below refers to your mains operated (corded) power tool or battery operated (cordless) power tool. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS 1) Work area a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered and dark areas invite accidents. b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust of fumes. c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control. 2) Electrical safety a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock 3) Personal safety a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. b) Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Safety equipment such as dust mask, nonskid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries. c) Avoid accidental starting. Ensure the switch is in the off position before plugging in. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or plugging in power tools that have the switch on invites accidents. d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury. e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations. f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of these devices can reduce dust related hazards. 4) Power tool use and care a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. c) Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally. d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tools operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc., in accordance with these instructions and in the manner intended for the particular type of power tool, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from intended could result in a hazardous situation. 5) Service a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained. PRECAUTION Keep children and infirm persons away. When not in use, tools should be stored out of reach of children and infirm persons. 3

5 English PRECAUTIONS ON USING CUTTER 1. Do NOT use any cutting tool other than a diamond wheel. 2. Don t use it for cutting of metallic materials. Diamond wheel may be broken or its service life may be remarkably reduced when it is used for cutting of metallic materials. Be sure not to use the wheel for cutting of metals. 3. Be sure to take an earth leakage breaker or isolating transformer as electric shockpreventive measures. 4. Pour on water while cutting or scribing concrete, tile or stone. 5. Keep the motor interior free of water. 6. Wear protective glasses to protect your eyes while cutting. 7. Prior to use, be sure to check the diamond wheel in such details as crack, broken part, bent part and the like. Don t use a diamond wheel if any of the above detect is found on the wheel. Also confirm that no abnormality exists by actual test running. 8. Proceed with cutting operation when full speed has been reached. 9. Do NOT apply excessive force. 10. When cutting concrete, tile, or stone, the maximum cutting depth should be held to within 20mm. 11. Never touch diamond wheel while operating. 12. Never lay down the cutter while the diamond wheel is revolving. 13. Exercise care to position the cutter at a safe, stable spot when cutting. 14. Take good care of the power tool and keep it clean. PRIOR TO OPERATION Hole diameter (mm) Thickness (mm) Blade A (Dry) type B (wet) Confirming the earth leakage breaker or isolating transformer Before using this Cutter, confirm that an earth leakage breaker or isolating transformer as electric shock preventive measures is installed at the power supply to which the Cutter is connected. 2. Power source Ensure that the power source to be utilized conforms to the power requirements specified on the product nameplate. 3. Power switch Ensure that the power switch is in the OFF position. If the plug is connected to a receptacle while the power switch is in the ON position, the power tool will start operating immediately, which could cause a serious accident. 4

6 English 4. Extension cord When the work area is removed from the power source, use an extension cord of sufficient thickness and rated capacity. The extension cord should be kept as short as practicable. 5. Mounting the diamond wheel For details, refer to the item Mounting and dismounting the diamond wheel. 6. Confirm that the cutting depth adjusting lever is securely clamped. 7. Cutting depth adjustment (Fig. 1) Lowering the lever will loosen and raising it will tighten. Loosening the lever and moving the base will allow adjustment of the cutting depth. CAUTIONS Leaving the lever loosened may result in injury. Securely tighten the lever after adjusting the cutting depth. When the cutting depth exceeds 20mm, concrete, and so on must be cut in two steps. Never try to cut in one step; otherwise, the motor is liable to be overloaded and damage may result. Also, cutting efficiency will be lowered in such an instance. HOW TO USE THE WATER SUPPLY UNIT CAUTION To cut or scribe concrete, tile, or stone, operate the equipment while pouring water. 1. Attachment of the water plug (1) Loosen the wing bolt for cutting depth adjustment, and fully lower the base and fasten it with the wing bolt. (Fig. 1, 2) (2) Pass the water plug through the inner side of the cutting depth adjustment link as shown in Fig. 2, and fasten it to the water plug installation seat of the gear cover with the machine screw. (Fig. 2) (3) Attach the vinyl hose to the water plug vinyl hose attachment opening. 2. Water volume control Regulate the water volume by turning the water plug lever to the left and right. When turning the lever toward the vinyl hose attachment opening side, the water outlet will be fully opened (maximum water volume ), and when turning it 90 to the left, it will be fully closed. 3. When using city water (1) Insert the water plug into the provided vinyl hose. (2) Install the rubber connector on a faucet and fit the vinyl hose to the rubber connector. (3) Open the faucet to an extent that the rubber connector will not become disconnected; adjust the flow rate with the lever on the water plug. (Fig. 3) 4. When using a water tank The water tank should be located 80cm or more above the working surface. (Fig. 4) MOUNTING AND DISMOUNTING THE DIAMOND WHEEL CAUTIONS Be sure to disconnect the attachment plug from the power receptacle to avoid serious trouble. Stop pouring water and select a moisturefree location for the operation mentioned above. 1. Mounting the diamond wheel (1) Thoroughly remove dust accumulated on the spindle and washers. (2) As shown in Fig. 5, the concave portions of washers (A) and (B) must be on the diamond wheel side. (3) Thoroughly clamp the bolt. 2. Dismounting the diamond wheel Use the provided wrench and box wrench to remove the bolt. (Fig. 6) CAUTION A diamond wheel for mounting on this equipment must have 20mm internal diameter. No other sized diamond wheel should be used. CUTTING PROCEDURES 1. Set the machine body (base) on the material to be cut; use the side on the base to align the diamond wheel with the cutting line. (Fig. 7) 2. Turn the switch ON with the diamond wheel initially kept off the material to be cut. The power switch is turned ON when the trigger is pulled by one s finger, and is turned OFF when the trigger is released. If the stopper is depressed after the trigger is pulled, the power switch becomes locked, even though the trigger is released, proving particularly convenient for continuous operation. When the power switch is to be turned OFF, the stopper can be released by pulling the trigger, and the power switch is turned OFF upon releasing the trigger. CAUTIONS Do NOT use the diamond wheel for cutting along curves or at angles; otherwise, it may be damaged, resulting in extremely shortened service life. Before starting to cut, confirm that the diamond wheel has attained fullspeed revolution. Should the diamond wheel stop or make an abnormal noise while operating, promptly turn OFF the switch. Always take care in preventing the power cord from coming near to the revolving diamond wheel. When finished with a job, pull out the plug from the power receptacle. MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION 1. Inspecting the diamond wheel Since use of a dull diamond wheel will cause motor malfunctioning and degraded efficiently, replace with a new one without delay when abrasion is noted. 2. Inspecting the mounting screws Regularly inspect all mounting screws and ensure that they are properly tightened. Should any of the screws be loose, retighten them immediately. Failure to do so could result in serious hazard. 5

7 English 3. Maintenance of the motor The motor unit winding is the very heart of the power tool. Exercise due care to ensure the winding does not become damaged and/or wet with oil or water. 4. Inspecting the carbon brushes (Fig. 8) The motor employs carbon brushes which are consumable parts. Since an excessively worn carbon brush can result in motor trouble, replace the carbon brush with a new one having the same carbon brush No. shown in the figure when it becomes worn to or near the wear limit. In addition, always keep carbon brushes clean and ensure that they slide freely within the brush holders. 5. Replacing carbon brushes Loosen the set screw and remove the tail cover. Remove the brush caps and carbon brushes. After replacing the carbon brushes, do not forget to tighten the brush caps properly and install the tail cover. 6. Service parts list CAUTION Repair, modification and inspection of Hitachi Power Tools must be carried out by an Hitachi Authorized Service Center. This Parts List will be helpful if presented with the tool to the Hitachi authorized Service Center when requesting repair or other maintenance. In the operation and maintenance of power tools, the safety regulations and standards prescribed in each country must be observed. MODIFICATION Hitachi Power Tools are constantly being improved and modified to incorporate the latest technological advancements. Accordingly, some parts may be changed without prior notice. 9 Español Se producen muchos accidentes por no realizar un mantenimiento correcto de las herramientas eléctricas. f) Mantenga las herramientas de corte afiladas y limpias. Las herramientas de corte correctamente mantenidas con los bordes de corte afilados son más fáciles de controlar. g) Utilice la herramienta eléctrica, los accesorios y las brocas de la herramienta, etc., de acuerdo con estas instrucciones y de la manera adecuada para el tipo de herramienta eléctrica, teniendo en cuenta las condiciones laborales y el trabajo que se va a realizar. La utilización de la herramienta eléctrica para operaciones diferentes a pretendidas podría dar lugar a una situación peligrosa. 5) Revisión a) Lleve su herramienta a que la revise un experto cualificado que utilice sólo piezas de repuesto idénticas. La muela diamantada puede romperse o puede que su vida útil se reduzca considerablemente si se utiliza para cortar materiales metálicos. Asegúrese de que no utiliza la muela para cortar materiales metálicos. 3. Asegúrese de instalar un interruptor de fuga a tierra o un transformador de aislamiento como medida de protección frente a descargas. 4. Administre agua mientras corta o raya hormigón, azulejo o piedra. 5. Mantenga el interior del motor seco. 6. Utilice gafas protectoras para proteger sus ojos mientras corta. 7. Antes de utilizarla, asegúrese de que la muela diamantada no presenta grietas, partes dañadas o curvadas u otras anormalías similares. Realice la operación de corte cuando se alcance la velocidad máxima. 9. NO aplique demasiada fuerza. 10. Cuando corte hormigón, azulejo o piedra, la profundidad de corte máxima no deberá exceder los 20 mm. 11. Nunca toque la muela diamantada mientras se encuentra en funcionamiento. 12. Nunca deposite la cortadora mientras la muela diamantada esté girando. 13. Cuando corte, haga lo posible por colocar la cortadora en un punto estable y seguro. 14. Alimentación Asegurarse de que la alimentación de red que ha de ser utilizada responda a las exigencias de corriente especificadas en la placa de características del producto. 3. Conmutador de alimentación Asegurarse de que el conmutador de alimentación esté en la posición OFF (desconectado). Si la clavija está conectada en la caja del enchufe mientras el conmutador de alimentación esté en posición ON (conectado) las herramientas eléctricas empezarán a trabajar inmediatamente, provocando un serio accidente. 4. Cable de prolongación Cuando está alejada el área de trabajo de la red de alimentación, usar un cable de prolongación de un grosor y potencia normal suficiente. El cable de prolongación debe ser mantenido lo más corto posible. 5. Montaje de la muela diamantada Para más detalles, consulte la sección Montaje y desmontaje de la muela diamantada. 6. Asegúrese de que la palanca de ajuste de profundidad de corte se encuentra totalmente sujeta. 7. Ajuste de profundidad de corte (Fig. 1) Si sube la palanca se aflojará mientras que si la sube se apretará. Podrá ajustar la pronfundidad de corte aflojando la palanca y desplazando la base. 9 PRECAUCIONES Dejar la palanca desaflojada puede ocasionar lesiones. Apriete bien la palanca después de ajustar la profundidad de corte. Cuando la profundidad de corte para hormigón y otros materiales similares exceda los 20 mm, estos deben cortarse en dos fases. En ningún caso intente cortarlos de una sola vez, ya que el motor podría sobrecargarse y sufrir daños. Asimismo, la eficacia de corte podría verse reducida si se procede erróneamente. CÓMO UTILIZAR LA UNIDAD DE SUMINISTRO DE AGUA PRECAUCIÓN Para cortar o rayar hormigón, azulejo o piedra, administre agua mientras opera el equipo. 1. Conexión de la toma de agua (1) Afloje el perno de orejetas del ajuste de profundidad de corte, baje la base al máximo y fíjela con el perno de orejetas. (Figs. 1, 2) (2) Pase la toma de agua por la parte interior de la guía de ajuste de profundidad de corte tal y como se muestra en la Fig. 2. A continuación, ajústela al asiento de instalación de la toma de agua de la caja de engranajes mediante el tornillo mecanizado. (Fig. 2) (3) Conecte el manguito de vinilo a la abertura de la conexión del manguito de vinilo de la toma de agua. 2. Control de volumen de agua Regule el volumen de agua desplazando la palanca de la toma de agua hacia la izquierda y la derecha. Cuando desplace la palanca hacia la parte de la abertura de la conexión del manguito de vinilo, la salida de agua se abrirá por completo (volumen máximo de agua), y cuando la desplace 90 a la izquierda se cerrará por completo. 3. Cuando utilice agua corriente (1) Inserte la toma de agua en el manguito de vinilo suministrado. (2) Acople el conector de goma a un grifo y adapte el manguito de vinilo al conector de goma. (3) Abra el grifo sin permitir que el conector de goma se desconecte; ajuste el caudal de agua mediante la palanca de la toma de agua (Fig. 3). 4. Cuando utilice un depósito de agua El depósito de agua deberá estar ubicado a una altura de 80 cm o más con respecto a la superficie de trabajo (Fig. 4). MONTAJE Y DESMONTAJE DE LA MUELA DIAMANTADA PRECAUCIONES Asegúrese de desconectar el enchufe conector de la toma de corriente para evitar riesgos. Deje de administrar agua y elija una superficie seca para realizar la operación descrita arriba. 1. Montaje de la muela diamantada (1) Elimine con cuidado el polvo acumulado en el eje y las arandelas.

11 Español (2) Como se muestra en el ejemplo de la Fig. 5, las partes cóncavas de las arandelas (A) y (B) deben quedar del lado de la muela diamantada. (3) Ajuste el perno con cuidado. 2. Desmontaje de la muela diamantada Utilice la llave de tuerca y la llave de estría suministradas para retirar el perno. (Fig. 6) PRECAUCIÓN Este equipo utiliza muelas diamantadas de 20 mm de diámetro interno. No pueden utilizarse muelas diamantadas de otros tamaños. PROCEDIMIENTOS DE CORTE 1. Pose el cuerpo del aparato (base) sobre el material que desea cortar; utilice el lado de la base para alinear la muela diamantada con la línea de corte. (Fig. 7) 2. Encienda el interruptor (ON) e, inicialmente, mantenga la muela diamantada apartada del material que va a cortar. El interruptor de corriente se enciende (ON) al accionar del gatillo con un dedo, y se apaga (OFF) al soltar dicho gatillo. Si se presiona el bloqueador tras accionar el gatillo, el interruptor de corriente queda bloqueado incluso si se suelta el gatillo, lo que resulta especialmente útil para operar de forma continua. Cuando vaya a apagarse (OFF) el interruptor de corriente, el bloqueador puede soltarse accionando el gatillo. El interruptor se apagará (OFF) al soltar el gatillo. PRECAUCIONES NO utilice la muela diamantada para cortar en curva o en ángulos, ya que el aparato podría resultar dañado y reducirse su vida útil drásticamente. Antes de comenzar a cortar, asegúrese de que la muela diamantada ha alcanzado el número máximo de revoluciones. Apague (OFF) el interruptor de inmediato si la muela diamantada se detiene o hace ruidos anormales durante su operación. Extreme siempre las precauciones para que el cable de corriente no esté próximo a la muela diamantada durante su funcionamiento. Cuando finalice el trabajo, extraiga el conector de la toma de corriente. 3. Mantenimiento de motor La unidad de bobinado del motor es el verdadero corazón de las herramientas eléctricas. Prestar el mayor cuidado y asegurarse de que el bobinado no se dañe y/o se humedezca con aceite o agua. 4. Inspección de escobillas de carbón (Fig. 8) El motor emplea carbones de contacto que son partes consumibles. Como un carbón de contacto excesivamente desgastado podría dar problemas al motor, reemplazar el carbón de contacto por uno nuevo, que tenga el mismo número mostrado en la figura, cuando se haya desgastado o esté cerca del límite de uso. Adicionalmente, mantener siempre los carbones de contacto limpios y asegurarse de que corran libremente dentro de los sujetadores de carbón. 5. Sustitución de las escobillas de carbono Afloje el tornillo de sujección y retire la cubierta posterior. Retire los casquetes de las escobillas y las escobillas de carbono. No olvide apretar los casquetes de las escobillas y colocar la cubierta posterior tras sustituir las escobillas de carbono. 6. Lista de repuestos PRECAUCIÓN La reparación, modificación e inspección de las herramientas eléctricas Hitachi deben ser realizadas por un Centro de Servicio Autorizado de Hitachi. Esta lista de repuestos será de utilidad si es presentada junto con la herramienta al Centro de Servicio Autorizado de Hitachi, para solicitar la reparación o cualquier otro tipo de mantenimiento. En el manejo y el mantenimiento de las herramientas eléctricas, se deberán observar las normas y reglamentos vigentes en cada país. MODIFICACIONES Hitachi Power Tools introduce constantemente mejoras y modificaciones para incorporar los últimos avances tecnológicos. Por consiguiente, algunas partes pueden ser modificadas sin previo aviso. OBSERVACION Debido al programa continuo de investigación y desarollo de HITACHI estas especificaciones están sujetas a cambio sin preaviso. MANTENIMIENTO E INSPECCION 1. Inspección de la muela diamantada Para evitar un mal funcionamiento o una degradación de la eficacia del motor como resultado de una muela diamantada embotada, sustitúyala inmediatamente por una nueva si advierte indicios de abrasión. 2. Inspeccionar los tornillos de montaje Regularmente inspeccionar todos los tornillos de montaje y asegurarse de que estén apretados firmemente. Si cualquier tornillo estuviera suelto, volver a apretarlo inmediatamente. El no hacer esto provocaría un riesgo serio. 10
