Ἀδελφοί, Ὁ Θεὸς καὶ Πατὴρ τοῦ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ οἶδεν, ὁ ὢν εὐλογητὸς εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας, ὅτι οὐ ψεύδομαι. Καὶ ἐν τῷ ᾅδῃ ἐπάρας τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ, ὑπάρχων ἐν βασάνοις, ὁρᾷ τὸν Αβραὰμ ἀπὸ μακρόθεν καὶ Λάζαρον ἐν τοῖς κόλποις αὐτοῦ. Καὶ αὐτὸς φωνήσας εἶπε πάτερ Αβραάμ, ἐλέησόν με καὶ πέμψον Λάζαρον ἵνα βάψῃ τὸ ἄκρον τοῦ δακτύλου αὐτοῦ ὕδατος καὶ καταψύξῃ τὴν γλῶσσάν μου, ὅτι ὀδυνῶμαι ἐν τῇ φλογὶ ταύτῃ. Εἶπε δὲ Αβραάμ τέκνον, μνήσθητι ὅτι ἀπέλαβες σὺ τὰ ἀγαθά σου ἐν τῇ ζωῇ σου, καὶ Λάζαρος ὁμοίως τὰ κακά νῦν δὲ ὧδε παρακαλεῖται, σὺ δὲ ὀδυνᾶσαι καὶ ἐπὶ πᾶσι τούτοις μεταξὺ ἡμῶν καὶ ὑμῶν χάσμα μέγα ἐστήρικται, ὅπως οἱ θέλοντες διαβῆναι ἔνθεν πρὸς ὑμᾶς μὴ δύνωνται, μηδὲ οἱ ἐκεῖθεν πρὸς ἡμᾶς διαπερῶσιν. Ανακοινώσεις Ο Σύλλογος Σαμίων & Νήσων Αιγαίου & Ιονίου Πελάγους διοργανώνει γεύμα για να γιορτάσει την 40 η επέτειο από την ίδρυση του Συλλόγου Σαμίων και την 10 η επέτειο από τότε που o Σύλλογος συμπεριέλαβε και άλλους νησιώτες του Αιγαίου και Ιονίου Πελάγους. Φιλόπτωχος Αδελφότης Pajama Drive Η Φιλόπτωχος Αδελφότης, για τρίτη κατά σειρά χρονιά, διοργανώνει Pajama Drive και σας καλεί να την στηρίξετε. Όπως και τα προηγούμενα χρόνια, η προσπάθεια αυτή αποβλέπει στο να συγκεντρωθούν πιτζάμες για παιδιά των οποίων οι οικογένειες αντιμετωπίζουν φτώχεια, εθισμό, ενδοοικογενειακή και θέματα ψυχικής υγείας. Μέσω αυτού του προγράμματος, μπορείτε να συμβάλετε σε έναν «πιο ζεστό και πιο όμορφο ύπνο» για αυτά τα παιδιά. Οι πιτζάμες πρέπει να είναι για παιδιά ηλικίας 3 μηνών έως και 12 ετών και, επιπλέον, να είναι καινούργιες και αμεταχείριστες. Μπορείτε να αφήνετε τις πιτζάμες: τις Κυριακές στο χωλ του ναού, στο γραφείο του ιερού ναού κατά τη διάρκεια της εβδομάδας και στο Ελληνικό Σχολείο τα Σάββατα. Εάν δεν έχετε χρόνο να ψωνίσετε οι ίδιοι, μπορείτε να δώσετε τη δωρεά σας στην Φιλόπτωχο που θα φροντίσει κάνει την αγορά εκ μέρους σας. 3 Ανακοινώσεις Γενική Συνέλευση Συλλόγου «Παρνασσός» - 4 Νοεμβρίου Η ετήσια Γενική Συνέλευση του Πολιτιστικού Συλλόγου «Παρνασσός» θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Παρασκευή, 4 Νοεμβρίου, 2016, 7-9 μ.μ. στο χωλ του ιερού ναού. Ευπρόσδεκτα είναι νέα μέλη και φίλοι του Συλλόγου. Το λεωφορείο θα αναχωρήσει από την Κοινότητα στις 8.30 το πρωί και θα επιστρέψει στις 4 το απόγευμα. Το εισιτήριο είναι 10 δολ. για τα παιδιά και 20 δολ. για τους ενήλικες. Το ποσό αυτό θα καλύψει ένα μέρος του εισιτηρίου με λεωφορείο Coach, το γεύμα και μία δωρεά προς το Μοναστήρι. Το ταξίδι είναι για τα παιδιά του Κατηχητικού Σχολείου και τις δασκάλες καθώς και τη νεολαία. BRETHREN, the God and Father of the Lord Jesus, he who is blessed for ever, knows that I do not lie. At Damascus, the governor under King Aretas guarded the city of Damascus in order to seize me, but I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall, and escaped his hands. I must boast; there is nothing to be gained by it, but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven-whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows. And I know that this man was caught up into Paradise-whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows-and he heard things that cannot be told, which man may not utter. On behalf of this man I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except of my weaknesses. Though if I wish to boast, I shall not be a fool, for I shall be speaking the truth. And he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Lazaros to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.' But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazaros in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.' 4 Announcements Parnassos Society General Meeting November 4th The Parnassos Hellenic Cultural Society will be holding its Annual General Meeting on the evening of Friday, November 4, 2016 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Church Hall of the Hellenic Community of Ottawa. New members and friends are welcome. For more information contact Margaret Zafiriou at Trip to Panagia Parigoritissa Monastery November 6th The Sunday School & Youth Groups are planning a day trip to the Panagia Parigoritissa Monastery on Sunday, November 6th. The bus will be leaving our community centre at 8:30 a.m. and returning by 4:00 p.m. The cost of the trip will be $10 per child, $20 per adult to cover some of the trip expenses for the coach bus and also to make a small donation to the Monastery as they will be providing lunch. This trip is open to the Sunday School children, teachers and the youth. Fr. Avacum will be accompanying everyone. We are currently accepting names on a waitlist if there is more space available. The Samian, Aegean & Ionian Islands Society are celebrating their 40 th Anniversary of the Samian Society and 10 th Anniversary with the Aegean and Ionian Islands with a Luncheon at the Banquet Centre on Sunday, November 13 th, following the Divine Liturgy. Senior Citizens Association Taverna Night November 18th The Senior Citizens Association will be holding their Taverna Night on Friday, November 18 th at 5:30 p.m., at the Seniors Centre. This will be an evening full of great food, excellent music, and fun times for all. The cost for this evening is $20 per person. Please call Olympia Agraniotis at or Litsa Katsoulakis at by November 14 th to make a reservation. Plan ahead for New Year s Eve! Come and ring in the New Year with family & friends at the Hellenic Community of Ottawa! The New Year s Eve Party will begin with Cocktails at 6:00 and Dinner at 7:30 and includes a delightful dinner and midnight champagne. Musical entertainment will be presented by DJ Momentum. Tickets are $80 for adults and $40 for children 12 yrs. & under. Tickets for this special occasion must be purchased by December 5th. All table requests will be taken on a first-come/first-served basis. The day will begin with Divine Liturgy at our Church from 9:00-10:00 a.m., by His Eminence Metropolitan Archbishop Sotirios. Philoptochos - Pajama Drive Please help the Greek Ladies Philoptochos for the third year provide new cozy pajamas to children in need in Ottawa and the Greater Ottawa Valley. These families face difficult challenges such as poverty, addiction, domestic violence and mental health issues. Through the Pajama Drive, you are contributing to a warmer, more loving bedtime. The pajamas are to be new and unused, a complete set for ages 3 months to 12 years old. Please feel free to drop off pajamas on Sundays in the Church Hall; during the week in the Church office; or on Saturdays at Greek School. No time to shop, please make a donation to Philoptochos for pajamas and we will buy them for you.
