Their mother was a pious Christian widow who named her daughters for the three Christian virtues. Faith was twelve, Hope was ten, and Love was nine. St Sophia raised them in the love of the Lord Jesus Christ. St Sophia and her daughters did not hide their faith in Christ, but openly confessed it before everyone.an official named Antiochus denounced them to the emperor Hadrian ( ), who ordered that they be brought to Rome. Realizing that they would be taken before the emperor, the holy virgins prayed fervently to the Lord Jesus Christ, asking that He give them the strength not to fear torture and death. When the holy virgins and their mother came before the emperor, everyone present was amazed at their composure. They looked as though they had been brought to some happy festival, rather than to torture. Summoning each of the sisters in turn, Hadrian urged them to offer sacrifice to the goddess Artemis. The young girls remained unyielding.then the emperor ordered them to be tortured. They burned the holy virgins over an iron grating, then threw them into a red-hot oven, and finally into a cauldron with boiling tar, but the Lord preserved them.the youngest child, Love, was tied to a wheel and they beat her with rods until her body was covered all over with bloody welts. After undergoing unspeakable torments, the holy virgins glorified their Heavenly Bridegroom and remained steadfast in the Faith.They subjected St Sophia to another grievous torture: the mother was forced to watch the suffering of her daughters. She displayed adamant courage, and urged her daughters to endure their torments for the sake of the Heavenly Bridegroom. All three maidens were beheaded, and joyfully bent their necks beneath the sword.in order to intensify St Sophia s inner suffering, the emperor permitted her to take the bodies of her daughters. She placed their remains in coffins and loaded them on a wagon. She drove beyond the city limits and reverently buried them on a high hill. St Sophia sat there by the graves of her daughters for three days, and finally she gave up her soul to the Lord. Even though she did not suffer for Christ in the flesh, she was not deprived of a martyr s crown. Instead, she suffered in her heart. Believers buried her body there beside her daughters.the relics of the holy martyrs have rested at El zasa, in the church of Esho since the year 777.

Apolytikion of the Theotokos Your Nativity, O Theotokos, imparted joy to the entire earth, for out of you has risen the Sun of Righteousness, Christ our God. He nullified the curse and instead gave His blessing; and causing death to be neutralized, He granted us eternal life. Apolytikion of Sts. Constantine and Helen Having seen the image of Thy Cross in Heaven, and like Paul, having received the call not from men, Thine apostle among kings entrusted the commonwealth to Thy hand, O Lord. Keep us always in peace, by the intercessions of the Theotokos, O only Friend of man. Apolytikion of St. Nicholas The truth of things hath revealed thee to thy flock as a rule of faith, an icon of meekness, and a teacher of temperance; for this cause, thou hast achieved the heights by humility, riches by poverty. O Father and Hierarch Nicholas, intercede with Christ God that our souls be saved. Seasonal Kontakion In your holy birth, Immaculate One, Joachim and Anna were rid of the shame of childlessness; Adam and Eve of the corruption of death. And so your people, free of the guilt of their sins, celebrate crying: "The barren one gives birth to the Theotokos, who nourishes our life."

O Lord, save your people and bless your inheritance. Verse: To you, O Lord, I have cried, O my God. St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 6:11-18 BRETHREN, see with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that would compel you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For even those who receive circumcision do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh. But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. Peace and mercy be upon all who walk by this rule, upon the Israel of God. Henceforth let no man trouble me; for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen. The Gospel according to John 3:13-17 The Lord said, "No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life."for God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 6 Άγιος Νικόλαος Βελιμίροβιτς: Είναι αδύνατον να ευτυχήσεις πραγματικά μακρυά από τον Θεό! Βλέπεις τον εαυτό σου ευτυχισμένο και ακόμα βεβαιώνεις πως την ευτυχία σου την έφτιαξες μόνος σου, χωρίς τον Θεό και τους ανθρώπους. Γι αυτό απωθείς την άποψη που πρεσβεύουμε, ότι δηλαδή κάθε άνθρωπος χρωστά προσευχή στον Θεό και ελεημοσύνη στον πλησίον του. «Ούτε προσευχές στον Θεό ούτε ελεημοσύνη στον πλησίον», λες και μ αυτό τείνεις να θεωρείς τον εαυτό σου ευτυχισμένο. Για μένα πράγματι είναι αδύνατον να σκεφθώ την ευτυχία έξω από τον Θεό και τους ανθρώπους. Νομίζω ότι ούτε καν άγγιξες την ευτυχία αλλά συγχέεις τα φαινόμενα και αποκαλείς ευτυχία την ανέμελη επιβίωση. Μάζεψες πολλά από εκείνα που μπορεί να δώσει η γη, χόρτασες και ήπιες και νομίζεις ότι δεν σου χρειάζεται κανείς από τον περίγυρο. Γνώριζε όμως πάνω απ όλα, ότι η γη δεν δίνει τίποτα σε κανέναν χωρίς την εντολή του θεού. Και όσα σου έδωσε στα έδωσε κατ εντολή του Θεού. Μια βαθύτερη αντίληψη μας διδάσκει ότι εμείς δεν έχουμε στην πραγματικότητα τίποτα δικό μας, που να διαρκεί σ αυτόν τον κόσμο. Όλα είναι έωλα και δανεισμένα- γρήγορα φεύγουν και έρχονται σαν στρόβιλος. Η υγεία, η δύναμη, η ομορφιά, η ιδιοκτησία, η τιμή, η εξουσία, η μεγάλη γνώση, το καλλιτεχνικό ταλέντο, όλα τα χαρίσματα είναι δώρα. Και η δοκιμασία με την οποία ο Δημιουργός εξετάζει τους ανθρώπους έχει σχέση με την πίστη, το έλεος, τον σεβασμό και κάθε καλό χαρακτηριστικό. Η δοκιμασία έγκειται στο να καταδείξει δύο πράγματα: Πρώτον,αν ο άνθρωπος γνωρίζει από πού του δόθηκε το όποιο χάρισμα, και δεύτερον, αν αποδίδει δόξα και ευχαριστία στον Δωροδότη του. Άκου αυτή τη φοβερή συμβουλή του μεγάλου προφήτη Ιερεμία που φωνάζει: «δότε τῷ Κυρίῳ Θεῷὑμῶν δόξαν πρὸ τοῦ συσκοτάσαι» ( Ιερ. 13, 16 ). Άρχισε και συ γρήγορα να δοξάζεις τον θεό και να Τον ευχαριστείς πριν πέσει το σκοτάδι στη ζωή σου. Γιατί όταν έρθει το σκοτάδι, τα βάσανα, η ταλαιπωρία και η αρρώστια, η πτώση και η τρέλα, τι θα κάνεις τότε; Ποιόν θα παρακαλέσεις; Και ποιος από τους ανθρώπους θα σε ελεήσει αφού εσύ ήσουν χωρίς ίχνος ελεημοσύνης; Για να μην πέσει στη ζωή σου φοβερό και βαρύ σκοτάδι άσκουσε και θυμήσου αυτές τις άγιες λέξεις της Βίβλου: «Οὐλιμοκτονήσει Κύριος ψυχὴν δικαίαν, ζωὴν δὲἀσεβῶνἀνατρέψει.»
