2 Research project Evaluation of burning the lignite in combination with biomass, regarding the biomass provision from the local area The necessary biomass quantities : 5-6 tn of dry biomass were used in autumn 2009 during the beginning of the pilot stage of burning in laboratories in Germany 50 tn of dry biomass were used in autumn 2009 during the pilot stage of burning by PPC tn of dry biomass were used in autumn 2010 during the final pilot stage of burning by PPC.

11 Contribution to the denitrification of the soils and waters The burning of the biomass involves no emission of carbon dioxide. As a result it contributes to the decrease of the greenhouse effect Due to the fact that biomass includes no sulfur, it vitally contributes to the decrease of sulfur dioxide emission, which is responsible for acid rain
12 Calorific Value The final product consists of two raw materials: Biomass from the hole plant Biodiesel from the seeds Cardoon Pellets MJ / kg calorific value, i.e. 2 kilos of pellets equal 1 lt of petrol Cardoon : kcal/kg including seeds Lignite: kcal/kg ή 5-6 MJ / kg

25 Conclusion Through this pilot project, we set the basis for a more systematic cultivation of the energy plants, for biomass production in the area and the reconstruction of the cultivation methods in order to succeed in more effective, productive and environment-friendly cultivations
