2 CHRISTMAS PAGEANT SONG PRACTICE Sunday School students are rehearsing Christmas songs for the Annual Christmas Pageant, which is slated for Sunday, December 21. One or two Christmas songs are introduced after Youth Hymnology each Sunday until December 14, except for Sunday, November 30. Regular attendance is essential to the success of this endeavor, and parents are asked to make sure that their child(ren) attends so that he/she may be a part of this beautiful tradition of our community. Also, in order to participate in a costumed role, children must attend no fewer than three (3) Sunday School classes from now through December 7. If you have any questions, contact Christmas Pageant Coordinator Christina Kogos at cmkogos2@aol.com. The community looks forward to having all of the children participate! GOYA GOYA is sponsoring its Annual Community Christmas Card. This fundraiser offers parishioners the opportunity to share Christmas greetings in a communal card. Proceeds will be used for various spiritual, service, social, and athletic activities. To be included, simply visit the GOYA table in the Coffee Room after church services to complete a form. Or, you may mail it to the Cathedral office with your check for $20 made payable to HOLY TRINITY GOYA. Deadline is December 8, PHILOPTOCHOS ANGEL TREE Once again, the Philoptochos Society is accepting donations for Angel Tree, a project benefiting special families within our Cathedral Community. Holy Trinity PTA, Hope and Joy, and GOYA also participate by decorating the tree and making the ornaments. Please stop by, select an ornament, and fulfill someone's Christmas wish. SENIOR CITIZENS CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON Seniors are invited to the Senior Citizen Christmas Luncheon on Thursday, December 11, 2014, at 11:30 am in the Coffee Room of the Hellenic Cultural Center. Evangelia Bilalis is the chef, and she is planning a delicious meal. This will be very special event so mark your calendar and plan to attend. Sincerest appreciation is extended to Maria Anastasiou and the members of the Order of St. Markella of Chios for sponsoring the Thanksgiving senior citizens luncheon. Everyone enjoyed the meal cooked by Loukia and Mike Christakis and Alex Tiliakos. Maria Anastasiou made the table decorations and a beautifully wrapped ornament for each senior. Thank you all for your support. THANKSGIVING BASKETS Thanksgiving is a time of appreciation and giving. Thank you to everyone, who contributed to our Thanksgiving Project. We were able to prepare eight Thanksgiving baskets filled with gift cards and other items for the needy families within the Holy Trinity Community. Happy Thanksgiving to all! Message from Father George On Friday, November 21, Orthodox faithful celebrated the Feast of the Entrance of the Most-Holy Theotokos. Joachim and Anna, the parents of the Virgin Mary, presented their daughter to the temple because of their promise to God. Mary was raised in the traditions of their Faith. Parents, look at this sacrifice made by the parents of Mary. She was raised according to the teachings of the Faith. We present our children to God essentially through the Sacraments of Baptism and Chrismation. Although we physically do not give our children to be raised by the Church as was Mary and the temple, we should offer a sacrifice of our time, efforts, and funding to the place where our children can be lifted up on high with Christ our God. The greatest gift that we can offer to our children is the introduction to a real life in Christ. Using the example of the Entrance of the Theotokos into the temple, pray about how we as parents are encouraging our children to participate in the life of the Church, pray about how we can encourage our children to become faithful people of prayer and doers of God s Word. The Theotokos and all the Saints are role models in our life. May we always recognize the efforts and sacrifices in their lives to help mold our lives and the lives of our children EPIPHANY CROSS RETRIEVAL Plans for the 2015 Epiphany Dove Release, Cross Retrieval, and Community Celebration Luncheon are well underway with the next meeting slated Thursday, December 4, at 7:00 pm in the boardroom. Steps are underway to register the program with LSU. These programs are open to any university student not only the above mentioned schools. This includes faculty and students of graduate or professional schools. Copies of the album will also be available for purchase, but the price has not yet been determined. 7 150 th Anniversary Community Christmas Lenten Lunch Sunday, December 14 All Holy Trinity Cathedral members, families, and organizations are cordially invited to a Community Christmas Lenten Lunch on Sunday, December 14, immediately following Divine Liturgy, to commemorate the 150 th Anniversary and to celebrate the Christmas holiday season. The complimentary Lenten luncheon, sponsored by the 150 th Anniversary Committee and the Cathedral Board of Trustees, will be served for all community members. A showing of the documentary, 150 Years of Holy Trinity New Orleans, will follow the meal. All organizations and groups of the community Sunday School, Greek School, Choir, PTA, Philoptochos, Order of St. Markella of Chios, AHEPA, Daughters of Penelope, GOYAL, GOYA, HOPE & JOY, HTC Youth Soccer participants and families, all Holy Trinity committees, and any other organizations and members of Holy Trinity are invited to join in this special Community Christmas Lenten Lunch and documentary showing. Guests are welcome to bring a dessert or fresh fruit items for the luncheon.
