Continuing a yearly tradition, our community will gather together once again for the Christmas Community on Sunday, December 21st immediately following the Divine Liturgy. St. Paul's Letter to the Ephesians 5:8-19 Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is a shame even to speak of the things that they do in secret; but when anything is exposed by the light it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it is said, "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light." 4 10th Sunday of Luke The Gospel of Luke 13:10-17 At that time, Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years; she was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your infirmity." And he laid his hands upon her, and immediately she was made straight, and she praised God. But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, said to the people, "There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be healed, and not on the sabbath day." Then the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger, and lead it away to water it? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?" As he said this, all his adversaries were put to shame; and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him. MANY SINCERE THANKS! The Philoptochos would like to thank all our St. Vasilios members for their generous donations to the Housewarming Project for our veterans. Thus far, we have filled 12 very large 45-gallon bags with the many necessities that the veterans need to transition to independent living. The items that were donated ranged from small kitchen supplies to toaster-convention ovens, air mattresses, bedroom linens, bathroom towels and supplies and many other useful and needed items. Father Chris delivered them to the Metropolis of Boston where they were given to the VA Administration to be distributed to our veterans. Operation Housewarming, however, is an ongoing project for St. Vasilios, so please continue to be generous. CEMETERY VISITS: Due to the number of sacraments, 40 day blessings and memorials on Sundays it is difficult to make cemetery visits on Sundays after liturgy. If you would like a Trisagion at the graveside during the week you are kindly asked to make an appointment by calling the church office. HOSPITAL VISITS Due to HIPAA privacy rules, hospitals no longer provide a list of Orthodox patients to us. Therefore, if you or a loved one are, or will be, in the hospital, please contact the church office for a pastoral visit. Also, please notify the office if a friend or family member is in a rehab center, nursing home, assisted living facility or under hospice care. WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS! Everyone is welcome in the Orthodox Church and may receive the blessed bread (antidoron) at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy. Sadly, the divisions in the church prompt us all to work towards reunited Christianity. The culmination of this reunion will be the ability of all Christians to receive the Eucharist together. Until that blessed day arrives, only Orthodox Christians who are in good sacramental order are permitted to receive Holy Communion in the Orthodox Church. There are many homeless individuals who do not have access to a can opener so we are requesting pop top only. We are accepting donations now through December 31 st. We will be delivering all soup collected the week of January 1,
