The three young boys begin school. What is your name? How old are you? What religion are you? We need to put you into a scripture class. Questions in a foreign language swirl around them and they cannot answer. They only understand Greek. The older brother guesses the teacher wants answers about their identity, so he manages to answer Greek Orthodox. Well, there is no Greek Orthodox scripture here so you ll have to attend Church of England scripture classes. Gradually the boys learn to speak English and settle into life in rural Australia. Although they speak Greek at home, there are no Greek schools in Tamworth and there certainly isn t a Greek Orthodox Church. The Greek community in Tamworth holds a gathering once a year, but this is not enough to conserve and foster the Greek culture and language. This young Greek boy and his brothers grow away from their heritage as they conform into their new environment. When the youngest of the three brothers grows up, he gets a job as School Principal at St Euphemia College, where he is reunited with his heritage and the St Euphemia community strengthens his cultural identity. This story is being narrated and shared as a testimony to two pioneers who passed away this year. Father Michael was born in Arcadia Greece and migrated to Australia in He was ordained a deacon, then a priest in Father Michael was sent to Queensland where he served distant parishes of Greek immigrant populations, often travelling for 17 hours a day by train, going to towns and cities from Gladstone to Townsville and Emerald. After four years of serving many Greek communities that would otherwise have had little contact with the Greek religion and culture, he returned to Sydney and was appointed to the Church of St Euphemia from May 1971 where he served until With the Church Committee and Women s Philoptohos he was instrumental in purchasing and building the School Hall and Greek school classrooms. This is where the Greek afternoon language classes were held. When Father Michael began afternoon Greek schools in the Bankstown area in 1971 there were 270 students and by 1989 there were over 1000 students. Father Michael also in this time conducted scripture classes to fifteen schools in the area. Even after his retirement, he continued serving the Church as a Confessor and Spiritual Father to hundreds of parishioners around Sydney. Mr Peter Theophilou OAM was born in Limassol Cyprus and migrated to Australia in After attaining qualifications at Sydney Technical College, he opened an accountancy practice in Greenacre, where he worked till he passed away. In 1985, Father Michael encouraged Mr Theophilou to join the St Euphemia community and he was elected President from that year onwards till his passing. His vision led to the many developments in this parish and the establishment of St Euphemia College. In 1989, the School commenced with 29 students, today, Page 1

2 there are 750 students from Prep class to Year 12. As Parish President and President of the Board of Governors, Mr Theophilou worked tirelessly to support and lead the St Euphemia community. Furthermore, he served as President of the NSW Intercommunities Council of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia. The recounted anecdote above, highlights the legacies and contributions that both Father Michael and Mr Theophilou have given to countless Greeks due to their tireless efforts in this community, school and church. Individuals who migrate experience a loss of cultural norms. Thus, rites of passage and religious customs are important in the development of an individual's cultural identity. With determination and indefatigable zeal, these two pioneers established a legacy so that every Greek Orthodox individual did not and will not experience in the future, estrangement from the Greek culture and Greek Orthodox religion, like the three young boys from Tamworth. It is a gift to us all. This wonderful gift needs to be nurtured to thrive and grow. Therefore, we ask every individual in the St Euphemia community to do just that. Through our efforts, these two pioneers will be remembered and their legacy continued. Αἰωνία ἡ μνήμη. Eternal be their memory. Independence Day March St Euphemia College welcomes all parents, caregivers and friends to join in the Greek National Independence Day Celebrations on Sunday 26 March. It is expected that ALL students in Years 2 to 12 will attend the celebrations, wearing their summer uniform, including their hat and blazer. No jumpers are to be worn. The uniform shop will be open every Tuesday and Thursday between 2:00pm 4:00pm. Students who have paid to go on the buses provided by the School need to be at school by 11:45am. All students are to remain with the School till the end of the celebrations, which will conclude at approximately 4:30pm. The ceremony will begin at Martin Place, followed by a procession along George Street and concluding with celebrations at the Opera House. Page 2

3 Furthermore, this day is of religious significance as we celebrate the Annunciation of the Theotokos. We look forward to seeing all the families of St Euphemia College at Church on Sunday morning to commemorate this important day. Any High School student who is unable to attend the march must ask for approved leave from the Principal. Failure to attend will result in a Saturday detention. Further details will be given to students closer to the day. Parking Parents parking in Nino s parking area are asked to park at the far end. Also, could parents please not block the driveway into Nino s when picking up their children, as delivery trucks need to access that area. Page 3

4 Primary News Before and After School Care Unfortunately due to the very low numbers of students interested in the service, Extend has decided to terminate its service to our School and will cease operation on Friday 10 March at 6pm. Enrolling Now for Prep and Kindergarten 2018 If there are any existing families of our School who have children due to commence Prep or Kindergarten in 2018 please ensure that you complete the Enrolment Form and lodge it with the Enrolment Officer, Ms Kiahidis at Reception, as soon as possible. Other Vacancies St Euphemia College has some vacancies in some other grades as well. If you have any friends, neighbours or relatives interested in enrolling their children, please ask them to contact Ms Kiahidis for an Enrolment Form or they can download it from our website. Interested parents wishing to tour the School, can contact the Enrolment Officer, Ms Kiahidis for an appointment with the Director of the Primary School. School Fees Thank you to all the parents/caregivers who are up to date with their fees. A friendly reminder that Term 1 fees should already have been paid. All families are urged to finalise their Term 1 fees as soon as possible. Greek Dancing Payments Parents/Caregivers are asked to ensure that all Greek dancing money is in a separate envelope from other payments and is paid to your child s class teacher and not the School Office. Ensure that your child s name and class is clearly printed on the front. School Uniform Opening Hours Parents/Caregivers are advised to purchase school uniforms (g blazers) prior to the upcoming School holidays in order to ensure that ordered items arrive before Term 2 commences. The Uniform Shop will be open during the Easter School holidays on Tuesday 18 April and Thursday 20 April from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and also during the term on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 2:00pm and 4:00pm. Church Attendance The next Church attendance is scheduled for Sunday 5 March for Years 3 and 4. Students must wear their summer school uniform and assemble in the foyer of the Church hall by 9:30am. Students attending Church with their siblings on another scheduled date must inform their class teacher. School Uniform It is expected that all students wear the correct school uniform. As a School community, we actively encourage our students to take pride in themselves and their School. Students are expected to always wear their blazers and use their school hats at recess and lunch. As parents, you are made aware of our uniform requirements through information in the Student Diary, Rules and Regulations and in regular articles in the newsletter. Student Banking School Banking is continuing in 2017 with the Commonwealth Bank. The program teaches children about the importance of saving and money management. Students wishing to bank must bring their bank books to School and hand them to their class teacher on Thursday morning. Please go to the School Office for an account application form if you are interested in starting banking for your children. Happy saving! Mathletics Mathletics has proven to be an excellent mathematical tool to consolidate learning and understanding of mathematical concepts within our School. Students have received their personal logins and passwords to access Mathletics from home. The teachers have also been setting tasks for the students to complete at home. Please encourage your child to Page 4

5 access Mathletics throughout the week. This program is compulsory at our School. All students need to pay $27 by the end of the term, Friday 7 April. Please pay this amount to the class teacher by the due date to allow for 1 year unlimited access to the Mathletics website. Anaphylaxis Alert There has been a rise in students diagnosed with Anaphylaxis at our School. As a precaution and to ensure the safety of these students, all parents are reminded that we are a nut free school. Anaphylaxis is a severe and sudden allergic reaction. It occurs when a susceptible person is exposed to a specific allergen (such as food or an insect sting). Reactions usually begin within minutes of exposure and can progress rapidly over a period of up to two hours. Anaphylaxis is potentially life threatening and always requires an emergency response. It is very important that we safeguard these students so that nothing happens at School which can have an effect on their health. When packing your children s lunches please do not include the following foods: peanut butter, nutella, muesli bars that contain nuts or anything else that has traces of nuts. Please remind students that they are not to share food with their friends. Even the slightest contact with the sufferer s skin may be life threatening for some students. Teddy Bear s Picnic As part of our annual Buddy Program, Kindergarten and Year 6 students will be having their Annual Teddy Bear s Picnic in the School playground on Wednesday 15 March. The Kindergarten and Year 6 students, as well as their teachers have been asked to bring their favourite teddy bear to school on this day. Year 6 students can also bring a picnic blanket for themselves and their buddy to sit on. The students will have the opportunity to enjoy each other s company while eating their recess, singing a selection of teddy bear songs and taking part in some games. Harmony Day Tuesday 21 March Harmony Day is managed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship and coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It is a day for all Australians to embrace cultural diversity and to share what we have in common. This is widely celebrated across schools, childcare centres, community groups, churches, businesses and federal, state and local government agencies. The continuing message of Harmony Day is Everyone Belongs and Our Diversity is our Strength. On Tuesday 21 March, St Euphemia College will celebrate Harmony Day and our amazing diversity that is an integral part of our nation s history and character. Each grade will be representing a country and learning about the culture and traditions of that country. The students will also learn a song, or dance, and present it at an assembly for Prep-6 students. Students have been asked to wear the colours of the country chosen for their grade, or the colour orange. National Day of Action Against Bullying & Violence Tuesday 21 March St Euphemia College has once again registered in the campaign against Bullying in Schools. More than schools across Australia participate in this annual event to strengthen the existing message that bullying and violence at school are NOT okay at any time. On Tuesday 21 March (in conjunction with Harmony Day), Year 6 students will hold a cake stall. Money raised will be used to purchase a Buddy Bench for the School s playground, to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship on the playground. 25 March Performance On Monday 27 March, we invite all parents and caregivers to attend a special performance to celebrate Greek Independence Day. Years 6 will be performing songs and poems in Greek. The performance will commence at 2:15pm in the new Page 5

6 School Hall. Parents are to enter the hall via the East Terrace entrance at 2:05pm. We hope you can join us. Premier s Reading Challenge The Premier s Reading Challenge is an initiative of the NSW State Government to encourage in students a love of reading for leisure and pleasure, and to enable students to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. Once again our School will encourage all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 to participate in the challenge. Teachers will be providing the students in their classrooms (3-6) with a reading log. Infant s classroom teachers will complete a log of reading books read in the classroom for all students. Challenge kicks off Monday 6 March and closes Friday 25 August. Sports News Sport Bus/Transport Levy This term s sports bus levy of $30 should have already been paid to the class teacher. If the payment has not been made, please ensure that it is paid as soon as possible. PSSA Competition Training for the PSSA Summer Competition has begun. Please note the training schedule. Wednesdays Senior Basketball 3:10pm in the School playground. Concludes at 4:15pm. Thursdays Junior Basketball 3:10pm in the School playground. Concludes at 4:15pm. Thursdays T-Ball, Softball and Cricket at Kearns Oval. Concludes at 4:00pm. Infants Easter Hat Parade Parents and caregivers are invited to attend the Infants Easter Hat Parade for Prep to Year 2 scheduled for Wednesday 5 April. The Parade will begin at 9am in the new School Hall. Come along and see the students parade their hats and enjoy a morning filled with dances and songs. Parents are to enter through the East Terrace entrance at approximately 8:50am. Parent/Teacher Interviews K-6 Tuesday 4 April Parent/Teacher interviews have been scheduled for Tuesday 4 April between 3:10pm and 7:00pm. Parents and caregivers will soon receive a note with further instructions. End of Term 1/Beginning of Term 2 Holy Communion is scheduled for Friday 7 April. Please make all the necessary preparations for your child to receive Holy Communion on this day. Term 1 ends on Friday 7 April. Term 2 for the students begins on Wednesday 26 April. The students will have a two week uniform transition period. As of Week 3, Monday 8 May, all students should be wearing their winter school uniform. Parents/Caregivers may pick up their children from the park at 4:00pm. The bus will depart at 4:05pm and return to School at approximately 4:15pm. A reminder to parents to please collect their children from their respective training sessions promptly and not to leave siblings unattended at School during training times. Please remind students that they are to have a bottle of water with them at training and that they must also have their hat. IPSHA Swimming Carnival The 2017 IPSHA Swimming Carnival will be held on Tuesday 7 March at the Homebush Aquatic Centre. The carnival will run between 8:00am 3:00pm. Students will be leaving School at 7:15am promptly and will arrive back at School between 3:30 and 4:00pm. Parents are welcome to come and cheer our students on. Page 6

7 Combined Greek Orthodox Swimming Carnival This year, the Combined Orthodox Schools Carnival will be held on Monday 3 April. The carnival will begin at 9:30am and will conclude by 2:30pm. The bus from school will depart at 8:00am and will return by 3:10pm. Parents are welcome to attend to help support our School. The venue is to be confirmed. More information will be provided on a separate note. Learn to Swim Program Years 2, 3 and 5 have been involved in the Learn to Swim Program at Roselands Pools. The program has been a valuable experience for our students. If payment has not been made, please do so urgently. May. This includes transport, sausage sizzle and a drink. Upcoming Excursions.. Kindergarten On Friday 24 March, Kindergarten will be attending an excursion to Royal Botanical Gardens as part of their Science topic Weather in our World. The cost of the excursion is $40. Please put the money in a sealed envelope with your child s name on the front and hand it to your child s class teacher by Friday 17 March. Students will need to bring their own packed recess, lunch and a water bottle. (No nut products) Students are to wear their summer sports uniform including their hat. Please note that in the event of wet weather, the excursion will be cancelled. Primary Athletics Carnival Thursday 4 May The Primary Athletics Carnival will be held at the Crest Athletics Track on Thursday 4 May, McLean Street, Bass Hill. The students will be participating in a variety of events such as running, long jump, high jump and relays. All parents and caregivers are invited to attend and cheer on our athletes, however they are reminded that they MUST stay off the field at all times. Students may come to school dressed in their house colours however students are not allowed to use coloured zinc. Students must wear 30+ sunscreen on the day. The canteen at the Crest will be open and the P & F will be selling drinks, coffee and snacks. More information will be provided at a later stage. The cost for the transport by bus is $8. Please pay the class teacher by Friday 28 April. Infants Athletics Carnival Monday 8 May The Infants Athletics Carnival will be held on Monday 8 May at the Crest Athletics Track, McClean St, Bass Hill. We invite all parents to come along and cheer on our students on the day. Coffee, tea, drinks and a sausage sizzle will also be available on the day for parents and friends. Any parents who are able to help can contact Ms Michael, the School Bursar. More information will be provided at a later stage. The cost of $15 is payable to the class teacher by Wednesday 3 Year 1 On Tuesday 14 March, Year 1 will be visiting the Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre. The students will take part in a variety of art activities. The cost of the excursion is $45 and this is payable to the class teacher by Thursday 9 March. All students must come dressed in their sports uniform including their hat and ensure they have a packed recess and lunch. They must also bring a water bottle and their own art smock. In the event of wet weather the excursion will proceed as planned. Year 2 On Friday 17 March, Year 2 will be attending an excursion to Royal Botanical Gardens as part of their Science topic Watch and Grow. The cost of the excursion is $30. Please put the money in a sealed envelope with the child s name on the front and hand it to your child s class teacher by Monday 13 March. They will need to bring their own packed recess, lunch and water bottle. (No nut products). Students are to wear their summer sports uniform including their hat. Please note that in the event of wet weather, the excursion will be cancelled. Page 7

8 Year 3 During the month of March/April, Year 3 will be visiting ANZ Stadium as part of their Science unit Buildings and Structures. The date is TBC and more details of the excursion will be sent home on a separate flyer. Year 4 On Wednesday 29 March, Year 4 will be attending an excursion to The Rocks pertaining to their history topic First Contacts. Students will learn about the history of Aboriginal people from an Aboriginal perspective. Students will hear the stories of the strong role models in our past and discover some of the important milestones in Aboriginal political history and the people, both Aboriginal and non- Aboriginal, who have made these things happen. Students are expected to wear their summer sport s uniform and bring their hat, water bottle and packed recess and lunch. The cost of the excursion is $35. Please pay the class teacher by Friday the 24 March. In case of wet weather, the excursion will proceed as planned. Year 5 On Tuesday 28 March, Year 5 will be visiting Nan Tien Temple as part of their HSIE unit on Japan. The students are to arrive at School by 8:25am for an 8:30am sharp departure. The students are to wear their summer sports uniform including their hat and bring a packed recess and their water bottle. Lunch will be provided at the venue. The cost of the excursion is $35 payable to the class teacher by Monday 20 March. In the event of wet weather, the excursion will proceed as planned. Year 6 On Wednesday 5 April, Year 6 will be attending an excursion to Sydney Learning Adventures at The Rocks. The cost of the excursion is $40. Please put the money in a sealed envelope with the child s name on the front and hand it to your child s class teacher by Monday 3 April. They will need to bring their own packed recess, lunch and water bottle. Students are to wear their summer sports uniform including their hat. Please note that in the event of wet weather, the excursion will proceed as planned. Last month Swimming Carnival Even though the weather wasn t perfect, both teachers and students had a wonderful time at the annual swimming carnival last month. The swimmers participated enthusiastically in their events and the non-swimmers had a great time doing a variety of novelty activities in the shallow pool. I congratulate the students, who participated with great enthusiasm in all the events and who were also very well behaved. Also, a big thank you to the teachers who worked tirelessly in preparing and supervising the event. Congratulations to Ms Brazil and Ms Vourtsanis who did a great job organising our swimming carnival and special thanks to the parents who assisted on the day. Congratulations also to the following House Captains who did a great job leading their teams. 9 Parent/Teacher Information Session Thank you to all the parents/caregivers who attended the Parent/Teacher Information Sessions. The Information Sessions were held over three nights and at different times to help accommodate parents who had more than one child in the Primary School. I hope you found them very worthwhile and that they helped you understand the class routines and School expectations. Buddy System Last month the Kindergarten/Year 6 Buddy System commenced for this year. This has proven to be a highly successful program each year. Kindergarten students were paired up with a Year 6 buddy. They met and participated in their introductory buddy activity. All students were very excited and are looking forward to the next buddy activity. Term 1 so far has been busy and productive. Thank you for your support and we hope to see you at all the upcoming functions. Page 9

10 High School News Swimming Carnival The annual Swimming Carnival will take place at Birrong Swim Centre on Friday 3 March. All students are expected to attend. Buses will leave in the morning after Roll Call and return by 3:10pm. We wish all competitors good luck! Year 7 Parent/Teacher Night Parents and caregivers of Year 7 students are invited to attend the Parent/Teacher Evening interviews that will be held on Wednesday 8 March 2017 between 3:30pm and 6:30pm. This is an excellent opportunity for parents and caregivers of Year 7 to meet their children s teachers and discuss their progress. Students will receive a booking sheet and are required to book appointments with their teachers. Church Attendance Years 9 & 10: Sunday 12 March at 9:30am Year 12 Half Yearly Examinations On Monday 20 March 2017, Year 12 students will begin their Half Yearly Examinations. All students should have begun studying for these examinations and we wish them good luck. Absences and Early Leavers When students are absent from school, parents should contact the school by phone or send an to ehantes@steuphemia.nsw.edu.au Upon their return to school, students must submit a note signed by the parent/caregiver explaining their absence. Also, students are not allowed to sign themselves out early. They can only be signed out by a parent/caregiver. Work Experience An integral part of the Year 10 curriculum is Work Experience. This valuable scheme affords students the opportunity to experience first-hand a career that interests them and assists them in making an accurate decision for their future vocation. Many students return every year and enthusiastically confirm that they eagerly anticipate becoming a preschool teacher, a journalist or engineer. Also, others return and proclaim that the career they had aspired to was not to their liking or expectations and thus choose another career option. We hope Year 10 gains valuable knowledge and insights into their future career when they attend their work experience placements between Monday 3 April and Friday 7 April. Holy Communion On Wednesday 5 April, all students will attend church in the morning, where they will have the opportunity to receive Holy Communion. Students are encouraged to be adequately prepared. Term Two Students return to school on Wednesday 26 April. They are to begin wearing their winter uniform. During the school holidays students tend to forget school rules regarding hair colouring and upon their return to school become upset when they are told to change back to a natural hair colour. In order to avoid added expenses to families, students should be mindful of school rules regarding no streaks. When students are late to school they should also bring a note with an explanation of the reason. Page 10

Sporting Dates for this month are as follows: 2 March AICES Boys Basketball Trials (SWISSA Team) 3 March SEC Swimming Carnival 8 March AICES Girls Basketball Trials (SWISSA Team) 10 March SWISSA Swimming Carnival 21 March SWISSA Touch Football Trials Kinch Reserve 30 March Nominations for AICES Touch Trials (U15s, Opens) 30 March AICES Swimming Carnival TBA SWISSA Football Cup On Monday 20 February, the Opens Boys Football team competed in the opening round of the CIS Football Cup. Their opponents were St George Christian School and the game was undertaken at Kirrawee Synthetic Fields. It was a successful day for our boys who were victorious 7 goals to 4. Congratulations to the Coach, Mr Vardouniotis and the team. They will now meet a very challenging opposition, the International Football School, in the second round in March. We wish the boys all the very best for round 2. On Tuesday 21 February, the Boys and Girls Opens Basketball teams competed in the AICES Schools Basketball Cup at Castle Hill. As SWISSA Basketball Champions of 2016, we were the representative school for our region and earned the right to verse the championship schools from all AICES regions. Both teams played some outstanding basketball and it was so humbling to see our students match it with some of the best basketballers in NSW. Well done to all students involved. Year 7 Peer Support Camp We spent seven long weeks over the summer break anxiously awaiting the start of Year 7. We were all nervous, excited and a little scared of what was to come. Day two came and we were whisked away to Year 7 Peer Support Camp. When you think of Tea Gardens you may think of a nice, relaxing environment getting to know your peers. Little did we realise that we d be tested to our absolute limits! We all definitely enjoyed the Leap of Faith. You had to climb a 12 metre telegraph pole that made everyone nervous just looking at it. Once you reached the top, you had to jump off and hopefully grab onto the trapeze bars. We went kayaking, which was one of the best activities we all enjoyed. It was fun to kayak down the lake, although by the end we were all getting a bit tired from paddling. We were allowed to cool off by going for a swim in the river. The most exciting activity was the Flying Fox. Ten metres high in the air and all you could see for what seemed like miles was greenery. After dinner one night, all the Year 7 students sat around the camp fire ready to be told about a special St Euphemia College tradition, when suddenly the Year 11 students were soaking us from head to toe with water. It was really fun! I am sure that I can speak on behalf of all of us that the Giant Swing was one of the best activities on our Year 7 camp. This particular activity brought us 18 metres high in the sky swinging to the other side high into the tree tops. Even those students terrified of heights enjoyed this activity. This camp was all about facing your fears and testing yourself. Thanks to the help from our Peers Support Leaders and our teachers, most of us accomplished this objective. 13 Τα Νέα της Αγίας Ευφημίας Παρακαταθήκη Ένα νέο αγόρι έρχεται στο Tamworth με τους γονείς και τα δυο του αδέλφια. Τα τρία αγόρια ξεκινούν το σχολείο. «Πώς σε λένε;» «Πόσο χρονών είσαι;» «Τι Θρήσκευμα έχεις;» «Σε χρειαζόμαστε για τα μαθήματα Θρησκευτικών.» Οι ερωτήσεις τους τριβελίζουν το μυαλό και δεν μπορούν να τους απαντήσουν. Καταλαβαίνουν μόνο τα Ελληνικά. Ο μεγαλύτερος αδελφός μάντεψε τις απορίες της δασκάλας και κατάφερε να ψελλίσει: «Χριστιανός Ελληνορθόδοξος». Εδώ δεν έχουμε Ελληνορθόδοξο μάθημα θρησκευτικών, γι αυτό θα παρακολουθήσεις τα μαθήματα θρησκευτικών της Αγγλικανικής Εκκλησίας. Σταδιακά τα αγόρια αυτά έμαθαν να μιλούν Αγγλικά και εγκλιματίστηκαν στη ζωή της αγροτικής Αυστραλίας. Αν και μιλούν Ελληνικά στο σπίτι, δεν υπάρχουν Ελληνικά σχολεία στο Tamworth και πόσο μάλλον Ελληνική Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία. Η Ελληνική κοινότητα στο Tamworth συγκεντρώνεται μια φορά το χρόνο αλλά αυτό δεν είναι αρκετό προκειμένου να διατηρήσουν και να καλλιεργήσουν την Ελληνική γλώσσα και τον πολιτισμό. Το νέο αυτό αγόρι με τα δυο του αδέλφια απομακρύνθηκαν από την Ελληνική τους κληρονομιά καθώς αφομοιώθηκαν στο νέο του περιβάλλον. Όταν ο μικρότερος αδελφός μεγάλωσε, έπιασε δουλειά ως Διευθυντής του Κολλεγίου της Αγίας Ευφημία, όπου επανασυνδέεται με τις πολιτισμικές του ρίζες τις οποίες ενδυνάμωσε η κοινότητα της Αγίας Ευφημίας. Η αφήγηση αυτή αποτελεί φόρο τιμής για τους δυο πρωτοπόρων που έφυγαν από τη ζωή φέτος. Ο Πάτερ Μιχαήλ γεννήθηκε στην Αρκαδία της Ελλάδας και μετανάστευσε στην Αυστραλία το Χειροτονήθηκε διάκονος και στη συνέχεια ιερέας το Ο Πάτερ Μιχαήλ υπηρέτησε διάφορες ενορίες Ελλήνων μεταναστών στο Queensland, ταξίδευε συχνά για 17 ώρες την ημέρα με το τρένο, πηγαίνοντας σε χωριά και πόλεις, από το Gladstone στο Townsville και το Emerald. Μετά από τέσσερα χρόνια υπηρεσίας σε μέρη όπου οι μετανάστες είχαν λίγη επαφή με την Ελληνική θρησκεία και τον πολιτισμό, επέστρεψε στο Σύδνεϋ όπου διορίστηκε στην Εκκλησία της Αγίας Ευφημίας από το Μάιο 1971 όπου υπηρέτησε έως το Ο Πάτερ Μιχαήλ μαζί με το Εκκλησιαστικό Συμβούλιο και τις Κυρίες της Φιλόπτωχου συντέλεσε αποφασιστικά στο να αγοραστεί το κτίριο, η Σχολική Αίθουσα Τελετών και οι τάξεις του Ελληνικού Σχολείου. Εκεί έλαβε χώρα το Ελληνικό απογευματινό σχολείο. Όταν ξεκίνησε τα Ελληνικά απογευματινά σχολεία την περιοχή του Bankstown το 1971 υπήρχαν 270 μαθητές ενώ το 1989 υπήρχαν πάνω από 1000 μαθητές. Ο Πάτερ Μιχαήλ παρέδιδε μαθήματα Θρησκευτικών σε δεκαπέντε σχολεία της περιοχής. Ακόμη και μετά τη συνταξιοδήτησή του εξακολουθούσε να υπηρετεί την Εκκλησία ως Εξομολόγος και Πνευματικός Πατέρας για εκατοντάδες ενορίτες του Σύδνεϋ. Ο κύριος Παναγιώτης Θεοφίλου OAM γεννήθηκε στη Λεμεσό της Κύπρου και μετανάστευσε στην Αυστραλία το Αφού πήρε το πτυχίο του από την Τεχνική Σχολή του Σύδνεϋ -Sydney Technical Collegeάνοιξε ένα λογιστικό γραφείο στο Greenacre όπου δούλευε ώσπου έφυγε από τη ζωή. Το 1985 ο Πάτερ Μιχαήλ προέτρεψε τον κύριο Θεοφίλου να γίνει μέλος της κοινότητας της Αγίας Ευφημίας, της οποίας και υπήρξε Πρόεδρος από τότε ώσπου έφυγε από τη ζωή. Το όραμά του έφερε την ενορία και το Κολλέγιο της Αγίας Ευφημίας στο αξιοσημείωτο βαθμό ανάπτυξης που βρίσκονται σήμερα. Το 1989 το Κολλέγιο ξεκίνησε με 29 μαθητές και σήμερα υπάρχουν 750 μαθητές από το Προνήπιο Page 13

14 έως και την Γ Λυκείου. Ο κύριος Θεοφίλου δούλεψε σκληρά ως Πρόεδρος της Ενορίας και ως Πρόεδρος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου για να διοικήσει και να στηρίξει την κοινότητα της Αγίας Ευφημίας. Επίσης ο κύριος Θεοφίλου υπήρξε Πρόεδρος του Διακοινοτικού Συμβουλίου της Ελληνικής Ορθόδοξης Αρχιεπισκοπής της Αυστραλίας. Οι παραπάνω αφηγήσεις και τα λόγια τονίζουν την κληρονομιά και τη συνεισφορά του Πατέρα Μιχαήλ και του κυρίου Θεοφίλου σε τόσους Έλληνες συμπάροικους χάρη στη σκληρή προσπάθειά τους προς όφελος της κοινότητας, του σχολείου και της εκκλησίας. Όλοι οι μετανάστες βιώνουν έλλειψη πολλών πολιτιστικών στοιχείων. Έτσι οι θρησκευτικές παραδόσεις είναι πολύ σημαντικές για την ανάπτυξη της πολιτιστικής ταυτότητας του ατόμου. Με μεγάλη αποφασιστικότητα και ζήλο, οι δύο αυτοί πρωτοπόροι εγκατέστησαν μια κληρονομιά, μια παρακαταθήκη που δε θα επιτρέψει σε κανέναν Ελληνορθόδοξο άνθρωπο στο εξής να αποξενωθεί από τον Ελληνικό πολιτισμό και την Ελληνική Ορθόδοξη Θρησκεία, όπως συνέβη με τα τρία νέα αγόρια από το Tamworth. Η κληρονομιά αυτή είναι ένα δώρο για όλους μας. Αυτό το υπέροχο δώρο χρειάζεται φροντίδα για να μεγαλώσει και να αναπτυχθεί. Συνεπώς, αυτό ακριβώς ζητάμε από όλα τα μέλη της κοινότητας της Αγίας Ευφημίας. Θα πρέπει όλοι να θυμόμαστε συνειδητά τους δυο αυτούς πρωτοπόρους για να συνεχιστεί η κληρονομιά που μας άφησαν. Αιωνία τους η μνήμη. Μάρτιος 2017 Η Επέτειος της 25 ης Μαρτίου και ο Ευαγγελισμός της Θεοτόκου Επέτειος 25 ης Μαρτίου Το Κολλέγιο της Αγίας Ευφημίας προσκαλεί όλους τους γονείς/κηδεμόνες και φίλους στον εορτασμό της Εθνικής μας Παλιγγενεσίας, την Κυριακή 26 Μαρτίου. Όλοι οι μαθητές Α Δημοτικού Γ Λυκείου του Κολλεγίου υποχρεούνται να παρευρεθούν, φορώντας την καλοκαιρινή στολή με το σακάκι και το καπέλο. Τα πουλόβερ δεν επιτρέπονται. Το κατάστημα που πουλάει σχολικά είδη (uniform shop) θα είναι ανοιχτό κάθε Τρίτη και Πέμπτη από τις 2.00μ.μ. 4.00μ.μ. Οι μαθητές που έχουν πληρώσει για να πάνε στο Martin Place με λεωφορείο πρέπει να βρίσκονται στο σχολείο το αργότερο μέχρι τις 11.45π.μ. Όλοι οι μαθητές πρέπει να παραμείνουν στην εκδήλωση μέχρι το τέλος της γιορτής, που αναμένεται να τελειώσει κατά τις 4.30μ.μ. Οι εκδηλώσεις θα αρχίσουν στο Martin Place και θα συνεχιστούν με παρέλαση προς το Opera House. Επίσης, αυτή την ημέρα εορτάζουμε τον Ευαγγελισμό της Θεοτόκου. Αδημονούμε να δούμε όλες τις οικογένειες του Κολλεγίου της Αγίας Ευφημίας την Κυριακή στην Εκκλησία για να εορτάσουμε αυτή τη σημαντική γιορτή. Οι μαθητές που αδυνατούν να παρευρεθούν πρέπει να έχουν την συγκατάθεση του διευθυντή, του κυρίου Χειράκη. Οι μαθητές που θα απουσιάσουν χωρίς την συγκατάθεση του Κυρίου Χειράκη θα τιμωρηθούν. 15 ΤA ΝEA TOU ΔHMOTIKOU Extend - Φροντίδα Πριν και Μετά το Σχολείο Δυστυχώς, λόγω του χαμηλού αριθμού των μαθητών που ενδιαφέρονταν για την υπηρεσία αυτή που προσφέρει το Extend, θα σταματήσει να λειτουργεί από την Παρασκευή 10 Μαρτίου στις 6μμ. Εγγραφές για το Προνήπιο και το Νηπιαγωγείο του 2018 Υπενθυμίζουμε τους γονείς των οποίων τα παιδιά θα πάνε στο Προνήπιο ή το Νηπιαγωγείο το 2018 να βεβαιωθούν ότι έχουν γράψει τα παιδιά τους. Αν δεν έχει γίνει η εγγραφή θα πρέπει να συμπληρωθεί η αίτηση εγγραφής και να επιστραφεί στη Γραμματέα την κα Κιαχίδης το συντομότερο δυνατό. Νέες Εγγραφές άλλων τάξεων Υπάρχουν ακόμη μερικές θέσεις και στις άλλες τάξεις του Δημοτικού. Όσοι γονείς έχουν φίλους, γείτονες ή συγγενείς που ενδιαφέρονται να γράψουν τα παιδιά τους στις τάξεις αυτές μπορούν να επικοινωνήσουν με τη Γραμματεία του Δημοτικού Σχολείου ή να βρουν την αίτηση εγγραφής από το διαδίκτυο. Όσοι γονείς επιθυμούν ξενάγηση στο σχολείο με την Υπεύθυνη του Δημοτικού Σχολείου μπορούν να αποταθούν στη Γραμματεία του Δημοτικού Σχολείου. Σχολικά Δίδακτρα Ευχαριστούμε όλους τους γονείς που πλήρωσαν τα σχολικά δίδακτρα του Α τριμήνου Τα δίδακτρα θα πρέπει να πληρώνονται πριν την έναρξη κάθε τριμήνου. Για όσους δεν έχουν πληρώσει ακόμη τα δίδακτρα του Α τριμήνου, παρακαλούμε να τα πληρώσουν το συντομότερο δυνατό. Ώρες Λειτουργίας του Μαγαζιού Σχολικών Στολών Συμβουλεύουμε τους γονείς να αγοράζουν τη σχολική στολή (πχ το σχολικό σακάκια κτλ.) πριν την έναρξη των διακοπών ώστε να βεβαιωθούν ότι η παραγγελία τους θα έρθει πριν την έναρξη του Β Τριμήνου. Το μαγαζί που πουλά είδη της σχολικής στολής θα είναι ανοιχτό στη διάρκεια των Σχολικών Διακοπών του Πάσχα, την Τρίτη 18 Απριλίου και την Πέμπτη 20 Απριλίου μεταξύ 2.00μμ και 4.00μμ. Εκκλησιασμός Ο επόμενος εκκλησιασμός για τους μαθητές της Γ και Δ Δημοτικού έχει προγραμματιστεί για την Κυριακή 5 Μαρτίου. Οι μαθητές θα πρέπει να φορούν την καλοκαιρινή σχολική τους στολή και να βρίσκονται στο Χολ της εκκλησίας στις 9.30πμ. Όσοι μαθητές θα εκκλησιαστούν με τα αδέρφια τους την ίδια μέρα, θα πρέπει να ενημερώσουν τη δασκάλα της τάξης τους. Σχολική Στολή Οι μαθητές θα πρέπει να φορούν τη σωστή σχολική σχολή. Ως σχολική κοινότητα ενθαρρύνουμε τους μαθητές μας να νιώθουν υπερήφανοι για την εμφάνισή τους και το σχολείο τους. Οι μαθητές θα πρέπει να φορούν τα σχολικά σακάκια και τα το καπέλο τους στη διάρκεια του πρωινού και μεσημεριανού διαλείμματα. Για το πετύχουμε αυτό, οι γονείς θα πρέπει ακολουθούν τους κανονισμούς σχετικά με τη σωστή σχολική στολή, όπως αναφέρεται στο Σχολικό Ημερολόγιο καθώς και σε άρθρα της σχολικής εφημερίδας. Σχολική Αποταμίευση Συνεχίζουμε και φέτος το σχολικό πρόγραμμα αποταμίευσης της τράπεζας Commonwealth, το οποίο θα βοηθήσει τους μαθητές να κατανοήσουν καλύτερα τη σημασία της αποταμίευσης. Όσοι μαθητές θέλουν να αποταμιεύσουν χρήματα θα πρέπει να φέρνουν το βιβλιάριο καταθέσεων στις δασκάλες τους την Πέμπτη το πρωί. Αν ενδιαφέρεστε για την αίτηση αποταμίευσης για τα παιδιά σας, παρακαλώ να αποταθείτε στη Γραμματεία. Καλή αποταμίευση! Πρόγραμμα Mathletics Το πρόγραμμα Mathletics αποδείχτηκε πολύ χρήσιμο για την κατανόηση και εμπέδωση των μαθηματικών στο Σχολείο μας. Οι μαθητές έχουν πάρει τους κωδικούς πρόσβασης στο Mathletics ώστε να το Page 15

16 δουλεύουν στο σπίτι. Οι δασκάλες έχουν αναθέσει στους μαθητές κάποιες ασκήσεις που θα συμπληρωθούν στο σπίτι. Παρακαλούμε να ενθαρρύνετε τα παιδιά σας να συμπληρώνουν να συμμετέχουν στο Mathletics κάθε εβδομάδα. Το πρόγραμμα αυτό είναι υποχρεωτικό στο Σχολείο μας. Το κόστος του προγράμματος είναι 27 δολάρια και θα πρέπει να πληρωθεί στη δασκάλα της τάξης έως την Παρασκευή 7 Απριλίου. Παρακαλώ να πληρωθεί το ποσό αυτό στη δασκάλα της τάξης έως την ημερομηνία αυτή ώστε οι μαθητές να έχουν απεριόριστη πρόσβαση στην ιστοσελίδα του Mathletics για ένα χρόνο. Αναφυλαξία Στο Σχολείο μας έχουμε αρκετά παιδιά που πάσχουν από αναφυλαξία. Υπενθυμίζουμε τους γονείς ότι στο Σχολείο μας δεν επιτρέπονται οι ξηροί καρποί για λόγους ασφαλείας όλων των μαθητών. Η αναφυλαξία είναι μια ξαφνική αλλεργική κρίση του οργανισμού. Συμβαίνει αν κάποιος με προδιάθεση για αναφυλαξία έρχεται σε επαφή με διάφορες τροφές που προκαλούν αλλεργία ή αν τσιμπηθεί από έντομο. Η κρίση μπορεί να εκδηλωθεί μετά από μερικά λεπτά και να κρατήσει ως και δύο ώρες. Μια αναφυλακτική κρίση μπορεί να αποβεί θανατηφόρα αν δεν αντιμετωπιστεί έγκαιρα. Καταλαβαίνετε λοιπόν πως πρέπει να προφυλάξουμε τους μαθητές αυτούς. Παρακαλώ να μη δίνεται στα παιδιά σας κρέμα φιστικιού (peanut butter), nutella, παστέλια με ξηρούς καρπούς (muesli bars) ή όποια άλλη τροφή περιέχει ξηρούς καρπούς. Υπενθυμίζουμε τους μαθητές πως δε θα πρέπει να μοιράζονται το φαγητό τους με άλλα παιδιά. Ακόμη και η επαφή κάποιου ξηρού καρπού στο δέρμα ενός παιδιού με αναφυλαξία μπορεί να αποβεί μοιραία. Teddy Bear Picnic Οι μαθητές του Νηπιαγωγείου και της Στ Δημοτικού θα πάρουν μέρος στο ετήσιο πικ-νικ με τα αρκουδάκια τους στα πλαίσια του προγράμματος «Φιλαράκια» στο προαύλιο του Σχολείου την Τετάρτη 15 Μαρτίου. Οι μαθητές του Νηπιαγωγείου και της Στ Δημοτικού καθώς και οι δασκάλες τους θα πρέπει να φέρουν μαζί τους το αγαπημένο τους αρκουδάκι την ημέρα αυτή. Οι μαθητές της Στ Δημοτικού θα πρέπει να φέρουν μία κουβέρτα όπου θα καθίσουν μαζί με τα φιλαράκια τους. Οι μαθητές θα έχουν την ευκαιρία να απολαύσουν όλοι μαζί τους μεσημεριανό τους, να τραγουδήσουν όμορφα τραγουδάκια και να παίξουν διάφορα παιχνίδια. Ημέρα Αρμονίας Τρίτη 21 Μαρτίου Η Ημέρα Αρμονίας καθιερώθηκε από το Υπουργείο Μετανάστευσης και Ιθαγένειας και συμπίπτει με την Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών για την Πάταξη Φυλετικών Διακρίσεων. Είναι ημέρα πολιτισμικού σεβασμού που γιορτάζουν όλα τα σχολεία, οι παιδικοί σταθμοί, οι κοινότητες, οι εκκλησίες, οι επιχειρήσεις καθώς και οι ομοσπονδιακές, πολιτειακές και τοπικές αρχές. Το μήνυμα της Ημέρας Αρμονίας είναι: «Όλοι Ανήκουμε Κάπου» και «Η Πολυπολιτισμικότητα είναι η Δύναμή μας». Την Τρίτη 21 Μαρτίου, το Κολλέγιο της Αγίας Ευφημίας θα γιορτάσει τον πολυπολιτισμικό χαρακτήρα της χώρας μας. Κάθε τάξη του Δημοτικού θα εκπροσωπεύει ένα κράτος και θα μαθαίνει για τον πολιτισμό και τις παραδόσεις του. Οι μαθητές θα μάθουν επίσης ένα τραγούδι ή χορό για να το παρουσιάσουν στους μαθητές του Νηπιαγωγείου-Στ Δημοτικού την ημέρα συγκέντρωσης. Οι μαθητές θα πρέπει να φορούν τα χρώματα του κράτους που εκπροσωπεύουν ή το πορτοκαλί. Εθνική Ημέρα Κατά της Βίας Τρίτη 21 Μαρτίου Το Κολλέγιο της Αγίας Ευφημίας έχει πάρει μέρος στην καμπάνια κατά της Σχολικής Βίας φέτος σαν ένα νέο κίνητρο. Πάνω από 1400 σχολεία της Αυστραλίας παίρνουν μέρος σε αυτή την καμπάνια για να δείξουν ότι ΔΕ ΘΑ ΠΡΕΠΕΙ ΠΟΤΕ να ανεχόμαστε τη βία. Την Τρίτη 21 Μαρτίου (σε συνδυασμό με την Ημέρα Page 16

17 Αρμονίας), οι μαθητές της Στ Δημοτικού θα πουλήσουν γλυκά/κέικ το πρωί. Με τα χρήματα που θα συγκεντρωθούν θα αγοράσουμε ένα «Σκαμπό για τα Φιλαράκια» ώστε να καλλιεργηθούν νέες φιλίες και να εκλείψει η μοναξιά. Η «Πρόκληση Ανάγνωσης» Πρωθυπουργού Η «Πρόκληση Ανάγνωσης» του Πρωθυπουργού αποτελεί μια πρωτοβουλία της Ομοσπονδιακής Κυβέρνησης της Νέας Νότιας Ουαλίας που ενθαρρύνει τα παιδιά του Δημοτικού να αγαπήσουν το διάβασμα και να βιώσουν την αξία της λογοτεχνίας. Είναι μία πρόκληση για να διαβάσουν τα παιδιά όσο τα δυνατόν περισσότερο. Για άλλη μια χρονιά το Σχολείο μας θα προτρέψει τους μαθητές από το Νηπιαγωγείο έως και την Στ Δημοτικού να συμμετέχει στην πρόκληση αυτή. Οι δασκάλες θα προμηθεύσουν τους μαθητές με το βιβλιαράκι συμμετοχής για να προσθέσουν τα βιβλία τους στο διαδίκτυο. Για τους μαθητές του Νηπιαγωγείου-Β Δημοτικού, η δασκάλες θα συμπληρώνουν το βιβλιαράκι συμμετοχής μέσα στην τάξη. Η Πρόκληση αρχίζει τη Δευτέρα 6 Μαρτίου και τελειώνει την Παρασκευή 25 Αυγούστου. Παράσταση για την επέτειο της 25ης Μαρτίου Τη Δευτέρα 27 Μαρτίου σας προσκαλούμε να παραβρεθείτε στην παράσταση των μαθητών της Στ Δημοτικού που θα παρουσιάσουν τραγούδια και ποιήματα για την επέτειο της 25 ης Μαρτίου Την ημέρα αυτή θα χορέψουν και οι ομάδες χορού της Στ Δημοτικού. Η παράσταση αρχίζει στις 2.15μμ στην καινούργια αίθουσα τελετών του σχολείου. Οι γονείς μπορούν να έρθουν στην καινούργια αίθουσα τελετών από την είσοδο της οδού East Terrace στις 2:05μμ. Ελπίζουμε να παραβρεθείτε όλοι. Επίδειξη Πασχαλινών Καπέλων Την Παρασκευή 7 Απριλίου οι μαθητές του Νηπιαγωγείου-Β Δημοτικού θα πάρουν μέρος σε επίδειξη πασχαλινών καπέλων. Γονείς και φίλοι προσκαλούνται να παρακολουθήσουν την επίδειξη που θα λάβει χώρα στην καινούργια αίθουσα τελετών του σχολείου στις 11:30πμ. Ελάτε να χαρείτε μαζί μας μια ατμόσφαιρα γεμάτη χορό και τραγούδι. Οι γονείς μπορούν να έρθουν στην καινούργια αίθουσα τελετών από την είσοδο της οδού East Terrace στις 11:20πμ. Συνεντεύξεις Γονέων/Δασκάλων Νηπιαγωγείο-Στ Δημοτικού Τρίτη 4 Απριλίου Οι Συνεντεύξεις Γονέων/Δασκάλων θα λάβουν χώρα την Τρίτη 4 Απριλίου μεταξύ 3.10μμ και 7.00μμ. Περισσότερες πληροφορίες θα περιλαμβάνονται στο σημείωμα που θα σταλεί στο σπίτι σύντομα. Τέλος Α Τριμήνου/Αρχή Β Τριμήνου Το Α Τρίμηνο τελειώνει την Παρασκευή 7 Απριλίου. Οι μαθητές θα έχουν 2 εβδομάδες προσαρμογής της σχολική στολής. Από την 3 η εβδομάδα, τη Δευτέρα 8 Μαΐου, όλοι οι μαθητές θα πρέπει να φορούν τη χειμερινή τους σχολική στολή. Αθλητικά Νέα.. Σπoρ- Χρηματικό ποσό εξόδων Μεταφοράς Σας υπενθυμίζουμε ότι το ποσό εξόδων μεταφοράς είναι 30 δολάρια για το σπορ του Α Τριμήνου και θα πρέπει να έχει πληρωθεί ήδη στη δασκάλα της τάξης. Παρακαλούμε τους γονείς που δεν έχουν πληρώσει το ποσό αυτό ακόμη να το κάνουν το συντομότερο δυνατό. Οι γονείς μπορούν να παίρνουν τα παιδιά τους από το πάρκο στις 4.00μμ περίπου. Το λεωφορείο θα αποχωρήσει από εκεί στις 4.05, και θα επιστρέψει στο σχολείο στις 4.15μμ περίπου. Υπενθυμίζουμε τους γονείς να παίρνουν τα παιδιά τους αμέσως μετά την προπόνηση και να μην αφήνουν τα αδέρφια των μαθητών μόνα τους κατά τη διάρκεια της προπόνησης. Οι μαθητές θα πρέπει να έχουν ένα ακόμη μπουκάλι νερό κατά την διάρκεια των προπονήσεων. Επίσης, θα πρέπει να φορούν τα σχολικά τους καπέλα. Αγώνες κολύμβησης IPSHA Την Τρίτη 7 Μαρτίου θα λάβουν χώρα οι Αγώνες Κολύμβησης IPSHA στο Homebush Aquatic Centre από τις 8.00πμ έως τις 3.00μμ. Οι μαθητές θα αναχωρήσουν στις 7:15 ακριβώς και θα επιστρέψουν στο σχολείο μεταξύ 3:30μμ και 4:00μμ. Όλοι οι γονείς είναι ευπρόσδεκτοι να παραβρεθούν και να υποστηρίξουν τους κολυμβητές. Αγώνες κολύμβησης Ελληνορθόδοξων Κολλεγίων Φέτος οι αγώνες κολύμβησης Ελληνορθόδοξων Κολλεγίων θα λάβουν χώρα τη Δευτέρα 3 Απριλίου στο Birrong Aquatic Centre. Οι αγώνες αρχίζουν στις 9:30πμ και τελειώνουν στις 2:30μμ. Το λεωφορείο θα αναχωρήσει από το σχολείο στις 8:00πμ και θα επιστρέψει στις 3:10μμ. Όλοι οι γονείς είναι ευπρόσδεκτοι να παραβρεθούν και να υποστηρίξουν το Σχολείο μας. Πρόγραμμα Κολύμβησης Οι μαθητές της Β, Γ, και Ε Δημοτικού πήραν μέρος στο Πρόγραμμα Κολύμβησης στην πισίνα του Roselands. Το πρόγραμμα αυτό ήταν μία πολύτιμη εμπειρία για τους μαθητές μας. Αθλητικοί Αγώνες Γ - Στ Δημοτικού Πέμπτη 4 Μαΐου Οι αθλητικοί αγώνες της Γ - Στ Δημοτικού θα λάβουν χώρα την Πέμπτη 4 Μαΐου στο Crest Athletics Track, McLean Street, Georges Hall. Οι μαθητές θα πάρουν μέρος σε διάφορους αθλητικούς αγώνες όπως αγώνας δρόμου, άλμα εις μήκος, άλμα εις ύψος, και σκυταλοδρομία. Όλοι οι γονείς είναι ευπρόσδεκτοι να παραβρεθούν και να υποστηρίξουν τους αθλητές μας ωστόσο θα ΠΡΕΠΕΙ να μείνουν μακριά από το γήπεδο καθόλη τη διάρκεια των αγώνων. Οι μαθητές μπορούν να φορούν τα χρώματα της ομάδας τους, ωστόσο δεν επιτρέπεται να χρησιμοποιήσουν χρωματιστό αντηλιακό (zinc). Τη μέρα αυτή όλοι οι μαθητές θα πρέπει να φορούν αντηλιακό με δείκτη προστασίας 30+. Η καντίνα στο Crest θα είναι ανοιχτή και οι Γονείς και Φίλοι θα πουλούν αναψυκτικά, χυμούς, νερό, καφέ και ορεκτικά. Περισσότερες πληροφορίες θα δοθούν αργότερα. Αθλητικοί Αγώνες Νηπιαγωγείο-Β Δημοτικού Δευτέρα 8 Μαΐου Οι αθλητικοί αγώνες του Νηπιαγωγείου-Β Δημοτικού θα λάβουν χώρα τη Δευτέρα 8 Μαΐου στο Crest Athletics Track, McClean St, Bass Hill. Όλοι οι γονείς είναι ευπρόσδεκτοι να παραβρεθούν και να υποστηρίξουν τους αθλητές μας. Η καντίνα θα πουλά αναψυκτικά, χυμούς, νερό, καφέ και ορεκτικά. Το κόστος της εκδρομής είναι 05 δολάρια. Παρακαλώ να βάλετε τα χρήματα αυτά σε ένα φάκελο όπου θα αναγράφεται το όνομα του παιδιού σας και να το παραδώσετε στη δασκάλα της τάξης έως την Παρασκευή 17 Μαρτίου. Οι μαθητές θα πρέπει να φορούν την πλήρη καλοκαιρινή αθλητική τους στολή, μαζί με το καπέλο και να έχουν μαζί τους πρωινό, μεσημεριανό (απαγορεύονται τα προϊόντα που περιέχουν ξηρούς καρπούς) και ένα μπουκάλι νερό μέσα σε ένα μικρό σάκο. Δ Δημοτικού Την Τετάρτη 29 Μαρτίου η Δ Δημοτικού θα επισκεφθεί τα Rocks στα πλαίσια της Ιστορίας με θέμα: «Πρώτη Επαφή». Οι μαθητές θα μάθουν για την ιστορία των Ιθαγενών της Αυστραλίας από την οπτική των ανθρώπων αυτών. Θα ακούσουν επίσης τις ιστορίες σημαντικών προσωπικοτήτων του παρελθόντος καθώς και την πολιτική ιστορία των Ιθαγενών και άλλων ανθρώπων που συντέλεσαν στην ιστορία. Το κόστος της εκδρομής είναι 35 δολάρια και θα πρέπει να δοθούν στη δασκάλα της τάξης έως την Παρασκευή 24 Μαρτίου.
