4 Parish News On Sunday November 8 th we will be holding our Fall General Assembly at 1 PM in the church hall. All members in good standing are encouraged to attend. The Annual George Tzimopoulos Memorial Raffle will be held in the church hall on Sunday December 6 th following church services. If you are interested in purchasing tickets please contact Georgia Tzimopoulos or the church office. Thank you for your continued support! It s hard to believe but 2016 is around the corner and we will once again be celebrating and welcoming the New Year at our church. We are very excited to have the live Greek band Ta Dilina playing for us. If you are interested in tickets please contact Tasos Karatzoulidis, Mike Rokas, Ted Rokas or the church office. Parish Council The monthly Parish Council meeting will be held on Monday, November 16 th at 7 PM. Philoptochos News Our sincere thanks to all Philoptochos, Parish Council, GOYA and church members who helped make our Autumn Bazaar a success. We appreciate the many hours spent baking, cooking, working at the bazaar, and cleaning up afterwards. We gratefully acknowledge the donations made to the Philoptochos in memory of Vasiliki Bakolas. She was a devoted member of our chapter and our parish, and we will use the donation in her memory. May her memory be eternal. We are accepting donations for the flowers that will decorate the church for the Christmas season. Please contact a Philoptochos Board member if you want to contribute. SAVE THE DATE The Philoptochos Christmas Party will be held Sunday, December 13 th, following the Divine Liturgy. All Philoptochos members and guests are welcome. 4

5 New Horizons Soup Kitchen New Horizons Soup Kitchen is Sunday, November 22 nd, 4-6 PM. We are looking for new volunteers to join our group. This is such a rewarding experience; please join us for less than two hours of fellowship with the group from the Assumption Church. If you have any questions, please call the church office at Thank you! Choir Calling all parishioners! We are looking for volunteers to join our talented choir. All ages are welcome; all that is required is your passion and love for our church! Please contact our Choir Director, Joan Virga at or the church office. Youth Ministry News A MESSAGE FROM FATHER GREGORY: I would like to extend a personal thank you to our Youth Ministry team for their hard work and dedication. Our interim Youth Ministry Coordinator, Stavroula Bakolas, together with the entire youth team, have spent a great deal of time and effort planning and organizing our Youth Ministries and the calendar of events. There are a number of fun and exciting social and spiritual events planned for our GOYA, JOY and Mommy & Me, Sunday School and Greek School children! These ministries will not be successful, however, without the participation of the children, the families and of our entire parish community. We ask for your input, ideas and especially your participation. Together, we look forward to a joyous, prosperous and exciting year! Our Panagia be with all of you - Fr. Gregory 5

6 Sunday School News: Many new and exciting things are happening in our Sunday School! Classes now begin at 10:00am in the school building and the children then proceed to church with their teachers at 10:45 for Divine Liturgy. Fr. Gregory and our teachers work closely together to try and make every Sunday interesting and educational for the children so we ask that you please make every effort to bring them! All children ages Pre-K to 8th grade are encouraged to attend. Some of the topics our Kindergarten class (ages 4-6 year olds) will review with our children include: ~ "The things we see and do in Church." This includes learning our cross, lighting candles, venerating icons, prayer, taking communion. ~ "The Things God created" ~ "All about the Nativity and Christmas" In addition, our Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Nicole Condodemetraky, covers the weekly Gospel lesson, which is outlined for our teachers through the direction of Fr. Gregory. Next month, we will offer an update on our Sunday School classes grades 2 thru 8. Hope to see all the children on Sundays! DATES TO REMEMBER NOVEMBER COAT DRIVE - please see enclosed flyer. Sun. Nov. 1 st - 12:30 pm GOYA Meeting Our GOYA will hold its November meeting in the Youth Center. Elections for Officers will be held and all young adults ages are welcomed to attend. Sat. Nov 7 th - 4:30 pm- Family Movie Night (please see enclosed flyer). Everyone's invited to a Family Movie Night from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the Assumption Youth Center. 11 Assumption Greek Orthodox Church Community Christmas Card Fundraiser 2015 As the Christmas Season quickly approaches, we are, once again, asking our parish community and friends of the Assumption Church to participate in our annual community Christmas Card. This year s donation remains at $15.00 per household. However, any amount you wish to contribute above this will be most welcomed. It s that time of year again to think about sending our Christmas and New Year s wishes to everyone. Our Christmas Card will be sent to more than 300 Assumption Church parish families and friends. 14 BUSINESS CARD ADVERTISING Anyone with a business that would like to advertise in our monthly bulletin, please contact the Church office. A business card format, about 2 ½ x 1 ½ will run for a period of 12 months for one set fee of $ a year. This will help to defray the ever-increasing costs of printing and mailing these bulletins to our homes as well as advertising your business to our parishioners and through word of mouth, to their friends. This is a great opportunity for all! 14
