John Romas (914) Ήχος Πρώτος 1st Tone Sunday October 4th, 2015-Κυριακή 4 Οκτωβρίου, 2015 The Feast of the Holy Protection of the Theotokos This miraculous appearance of the Mother of God occurred in the mid-10th century in Constantinople, in the Blachernae church where her robe, veil, and part of her belt were preserved after being transferred from Palestine in the fifth century. On Sunday, October 1, during the All Night Vigil, when the church was overflowing with those at prayer, the Fool-for-Christ St. Andrew lifted up his eyes towards the heavens and beheld our most Holy Lady Theotokos coming through the air, resplendent with heavenly light and surrounded by an assembly of the Saints. St. John the Baptist and the holy Apostle John the Theologian accompanied the Queen of Heaven. On bended knees the Most Holy Virgin tearfully prayed for Christians.After completing her prayer, she took her veil and spread it over the people in the church, protecting them from enemies both visible and invisible. She was resplendent with heavenly glory, and the protecting veil in her hands gleamed more than the rays of the sun. St. Andrew gazed trembling at the miraculous vision, and he asked his disciple, the blessed Epiphanius standing beside him, Do you see, brother, the Holy Theotokos, praying for all the world? Epiphanius answered, I do see, holy Father, and I am in awe. The Ever-Blessed Mother of God implored the Lord Jesus Christ to accept the prayers of all the people calling on His Most Holy Name, and to respond speedily to her intercession, O Heavenly King, accept all those who pray to You and call on my name for help. Do not let them not go away from my icon unheard. Ss. Andrew and Epiphanius were worthy to see the Mother of God at prayer, and for a long time observed the Protecting Veil spread over the people and shining with flashes of glory. As long as the Theotokos was there, the Protecting Veil was also visible, but when she departed it became invisible. After taking it with her, she left behind the grace of her visitation. The memory of the miraculous appearance of the Mother of God was recalled at this same church hundreds of years later. In the 14th century, the Russian pilgrim Alexander saw an icon of the Most Holy Theotokos praying for the world, depicting St. Andrew in contemplation of her. On this feast, we implore the defense and assistance of the Queen of Heaven, Remember us in your prayers, O Lady Virgin Mother of God, that we not perish by the increase of our sins. Protect us from every evil and from grievous woes, for in you do we hope, and venerating the Feast of your Protection, we magnify you.

Constantine & Helen Having seen the image of Thy Cross in Heaven, and like Paul, having received the call not from men, Thine apostle among kings entrusted the commonwealth to Thy hand, O Lord. Keep us always in peace, by the intercessions of the Theotokos, O only Friend of man. Apolytikion of St. Nicholas The truth of things hath revealed thee to thy flock as a rule of faith, an icon of meekness, and a teacher of temperance; for this cause, thou hast achieved the heights by humility, riches by poverty. O Father and Hierarch Nicholas, intercede with Christ God that our souls be saved. Seasonal Kontakion O Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the creator most constant: O despise not the voices of those who have sinned; but be quick, O good one, to come unto our aid, who in faith cry unto thee: Hasten to intercession and speed thou to make supplication, O thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee.

Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us. Verse: Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous. St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 9:6-11 BRETHREN, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that you may always have enough of everything and may provide in abundance for every good work. As it is written, "He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures for ever." He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your resources and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way for great generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. Γίνεσθε οὖν οἰκτίρμονες, καθὼς καὶ ὁ πατὴρ ὑμῶν οἰκτίρμων ἐστί. The Gospel of Luke 6:31-36 The Lord said, "And as you wish that men would do to you, do so to them. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the selfish. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful."

6 Ο Χριστιανός είναι ο παθιασμένος άνθρωπος! Νηστεύουμε, εκκλησιαζόμαστε, προσευχόμαστε, εξομολογούμαστε...χριστιανοί όμως δεν είμαστε...πολλές εγκλωβιζόμαστε στους «νόμους» και δεν προχωρούμε στην ουσία των πραγμάτων. Διότι αντί να αποκτούμε διαμέσου όλων των παραπάνω αγάπη, συγκατάβαση, συγχωρετικότητα, υπομονή, κατανόηση, ταπείνωση, γινόμαστε πιο σκληροί, αυτοανυψωνόμαστε σε κριτές των άλλων -των αμαρτωλών- λες και εμείς είμαστε οι αμόλυντοι και αναμάρτητοι...τελικά, Χριστιανός είναι ο Άνθρωπος της Αγάπης και όχι ο άνθρωπος των νόμων, είναι ο Άνθρωπος της Υπακοής και της Ταπείνωσης και όχι ο άνθρωπος του φανατισμού και του αδιάκριτου ζηλωτισμού...είναι κρίμα να νομίζουμε ότι θα βρούμε τον Χριστό μέσα από τις κατακρίσεις των άλλων, τις διαβολές, την επιδειξιομανία και την τήρηση κάποιων εντολών χωρίς την αναζήτηση της ουσίας της Χριστιανικής διδασκαλίας. Ας μην γελιόμαστε..."μπορεί να είμαστε της Εκκλησίας" αλλά του Χριστού δεν θα γίνουμε ποτέ, εάν δεν αποτινάξουμε την εμπάθεια και τον εγωισμό που φωλιάζει μέσα στην καρδιά μας.τα χρόνια μας περνούν μέσα στην Εκκλησία του Χριστού, χωρίς να γνωρίσουμε τον Χριστό. Τα χρόνια μας περνούν διαβάζοντας και μελετώντας τους λόγους των Θεοφόρων Πατέρων που βίωσαν την Παρουσία του Παρακλήτου, χωρίς να μας αγγίζει ουσιαστικά και βαθιά ο λόγος τους. Η χαρά χάνεται καθώς μεγαλώνουμε, η καθαρότητα αμαυρώνεται και η απλότητα γίνεται ιδιορρυθμία. Πολλοί χριστιανοί στο διάβα της πορείας τους χάνονται μέσα στον καθωσπρεπισμό και την συνήθεια.ο Χριστιανός είναι ο παθιασμένος άνθρωπος. Ο άνθρωπος που ποθεί τον Μέγα Εραστή της ύπαρξής του, τον Νυμφίο Χριστό ο οποίος στέκει αεικίνητος μέσα στον χωροχρόνο και έξω απ' αυτόν και μας καλεί στο αιώνιο πανηγύρι της Βασιλείας του Πατρός. Θες να γίνεις του Χριστού; Γίνε αδελφός του πλησίον σου, γίνε αγκαλιά παρηγοριάς, γίνε χαμόγελο, γίνε προσευχή, γίνε φωτιά χαράς, γίνε χορός συγχώρεσης, γίνε σιωπή ταπείνωσης, γίνε θυμίαμα αγάπης.και ο μυστηριακός τρόπος της Ορθοδόξου Εκκλησίας, μας προσφέρει όλες τις κατάλληλες συνθήκες ώστε να ευδοκιμήσει ο κάθε "επίδοξος εραστής" της Χάρης Του.Είναι στην δική μας διάθεση να εκμεταλλευτούμε το πολύτιμο αγαθό της Αλήθειας που μας προσφέρει η Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία, ώστε να ελευθερωθούμε από τα δεσμά του νόμου και να εισέλθουμε στον οίκο της Χάριτος. Έχετε ένα πρόβλημα; Κύριε Ιησού Χριστέ, ελέησόν με. Έχετε έναν πειρασμό με τον άλλον, με τον γείτονα σας, με τους φίλους σας κ.ο.κ. Κύριε Ιησού Χριστέ, ελέησόν με. Η ευχή θα σας δώσει τη λύση του προβλήματος σας λύσιν του αδιεξόδου όπου ευρίσκεστε. Το κομποσκοινάκι λοιπόν Κύριε Ιησού Χριστέ, ελέησόν με. Όλοι οι Άγιοι Πατέρες φωνάζουν την πρώτη θέση στη ζωή του κάθε χριστιανού την κατέχει η προσευχή. Θέλεις να κάνεις κατάσταση; Προσεύχου.Θέλεις να σωθείς; Προσεύχου. Όλες οι προσευχές καλές και άγιες είναι, αλλά η νοερά προσευχή, είναι η βασίλισσα αυτών. Κύριε Ιησού Χριστέ, ελέησόν με. Απ αυτήν τη μικρούλα αλλά παντοδύναμη προσευχή, ξεκίνησαν οι Άγιοι Πατέρες και έγιναν φωστήρες της εκκλησίας. Λέγε συνεχώς όσο μπορείς περισσότερες φορές την ημέρα και τη νύχτα αυτή την ευχούλα και αυτή θα σε διδάξει αυτά που θέλεις, αυτά που δεν γνωρίζεις. Βιάσου σ αυτήν την ευχούλα.
