Δ Εωθινόν ΣΤ *********************************************************************************** Saint Gerasimos Ο Άγιος Γεράσιμος Saint Gerasimus was from the Peloponnesus, the son of Demetrius and Kale, of the family of Notaras. He was reared in piety by them and studied the Sacred writings. He left his country and went throughout various lands, and finally came to Cephalonia, where he restored a certain old church and built a convent around it, where it stands to this day at the place called Omala. He finished the course of his life there in asceticism in the year His sacred relics, which remain incorrupt, are kept there for the sanctification of the faithful. Saint Artemios Ο Άγιος Αρτέμιος Saint Artemius lived during the years of Saint Constantine the Great, and was appointed by him to be Governor of Alexandria; later, he was honoured with the rank of patrician. During the reign of Julian the Apostate, in the year 361, Artemius appeared before the Emperor and censured him for his apostasy. For this, he endured many torments and was finally beheaded. Apolytikion in the Third Tone [Faithfully] following the steps of Christ [our God], you left behind you all the pleasures of the world, and imitated in the flesh the lifestyle of the angels. Wherefore with the gifts bestowed by the Spirit you brightened up your homeland, the Island of Chios, O Maiden extolled by all. Resurrectional Apolytikion in Pl. 4th Tone From on high didst Thou descend, O Compassionate One; to burial of three days hast Thou submitted that Thou mightest free us from our passions. Apolytikion of St. Gerasimos Let us the faithful praise the divine Gerasimus, who hath been newly revealed to us as a protector of the Orthodox, an angel in the flesh, and a God-bearing wonderworker. For he worthily received from God the unfailing gift of healing; he restoreth the ailing and healeth demoniacs. Wherefore, he poureth forth healings upon them that honour him. Apolytikion of Sts. Constantine and Helen Having seen the image of Thy Cross in Heaven, and like Paul, having received the call not from men, Thine apostle among kings entrusted the commonwealth to Thy hand, O Lord. Keep us always in peace, by the intercessions of the Theotokos, O only Friend of man. Apolytikion of St. Nicholas, The truth of things hath revealed thee to thy flock as a rule of faith, an icon of meekness, and a teacher of temperance; for this cause, thou hast achieved the heights by humility, riches by poverty. O Father and Hierarch Nicholas, intercede with Christ God that our souls be saved. Seasonal Kontakion in the Second Tone O Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the creator most constant: O despise not the voices of those who have sinned; but be quick, O good one, to come unto our aid, who in faith cry unto thee: Hasten to intercession and speed thou to make supplication, O thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee.

The Gospel of Luke 8:26-39 At that time, as Jesus arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, there met him a man from the city who had demons; for a long time he had worn no clothes and he lived not in a house but among the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beseech you, do not torment me." For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For many a time it had seized him; he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters, but he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the desert.) Jesus then asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion"; for many demons had entered him. And they begged him not to command them to depart into the abyss. Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged him to let them enter these. So he gave them leave. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned. When the herdsmen saw what happened, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country. Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. And those who had seen it told them how he who had been possessed with demons was healed. Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked him to depart from them; for they were seized with great fear; so he got into the boat and returned. The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him; but he sent him away, saying, "Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you." And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him.

5 Δεν μπορεί κάποιος να γνωρίζει ότι υπάρχει Θεός και να μη χαίρεται Πηγή της ψευδούς θρησκείας είναι η ανικανότητα να χαρείς, ἠ μάλλον η άρνηση της χαράς, ενώ η χαρά είναι απόλυτα ουσιώδης επειδή, δίχως αμφιβολία, αποτελεί καρπό της παρουσίας του Θεού. Δεν μπορεί κάποιος να γνωρίζει ότι υπάρχει Θεός και να μη χαίρεται. Μόνο σε σχέση με τη χαρά, ο φόβος του Θεού και η ταπείνωση είναι σωστά, γνήσια και καρποφόρα. Έξω από τη χαρά, όλα γίνονται δαιμονικά, μια βαθύτερη διαστροφή κάθε θρησκευτικής εμπειρίας. Μια θρησκεία φόβου. Θρησκεία της ψευτοταπείνωσης. Θρησκεία της ενοχής: τα πάντα είναι πειρασμοί και παγίδες όντως πολύ δυνατοί, όχι μόνο στον κόσμο, αλλά και μέσα στην Εκκλησία. Οι «θρησκευόμενοι» άνθρωποι, κατά κάποιο τρόπο, βλέπουν τη χαρά με υποψία.πρώτη και κύρια πηγή όλων των πραγμάτων είναι το «ευλόγει η ψυχή μου τον Κύριον». Ο φόβος της αμαρτίας δεν μας γλυτώνει από την αμαρτία. Αυτό που μας σώζει είναι η χαρά εν Κυρίω. Ένα αίσθημα ενοχής ή ηθικότητας δεν μας απελευθερώνει από τον κόσμο και τους πειρασμούς του. Η χαρά είναι το θεμέλιο της ελευθερίας, όπου καλούμαστε να σταθούμε. Πού, πώς και πότε διαστρεβλώθηκε και αμβλύνθηκε αυτή η ατμόσφαιρα του Χριστιανισμού ή μάλλον, πού, πώς και πότε οι Χριστιανοί άρχισαν να κωφεύουν στη χαρά; Οι άνθρωποι έρχονται συνεχώς για να ζητήσουν συμβουλές (σήμερα από τις 7:30 το πρωί, εξομολόγηση, συζήτηση, συζήτηση, συζήτηση, τέσσερις άνθρωποι με προβλήματα, χωρίς να λογαριάζω τις συναντήσεις που έχω αργότερα). Και κάποια αδυναμία ή ψεύτικη ντροπή με συγκρατεί από το να τους πω: «Δεν έχω καμιά συμβουλή να σας δώσω. Δεν έχω παρά μια αδύναμη, ετοιμόρροπη, αλλά ωστόσο για μένα, αδιάλειπτη χαρά. Τη θέλετε;». Όχι, δεν τη θέλουν. Θέλουν να συζητούν για «προβλήματα» και να κουβεντιάζουν για «λύσεις». Όχι, δεν υπήρξε μεγαλύτερη νίκη του Διαβόλου στον κόσμο άλλη απ αυτήν την «ψυχολογικοποιημένη» θρησκεία. Υπάρχουν τα πάντα στην ψυχολογία. Ένα πράγμα είναι σ αυτήν αδιανόητο: η χαρά! Η Αγία Ματρώνα Η Οσία Ματρώνα ονομαζόταν, αρχικά, Μαρία και γεννήθηκε στο χωριό Βολισσός της Χίου από γονείς ευσεβείς και πλουσίους, τον Λέοντα και την Άννα. Έξι άλλες αδελφές της Μαρίας, μεγαλύτερες της, παντρεύτηκαν η μία μετά την άλλη, περιζήτητες νύφες για την ομορφιά, την ανατροφή και για την καλή προίκα τους. Η μικρότερη αφοσιώθηκε στη μελέτη των θείων και ασχολείτο θερμά με φιλανθρωπικά καθήκοντα. Έτσι θέλησε να ακολουθήσει άλλο δρόμο. Η τακτική επαφή της με τις καλογριές των γυναικείων μοναστηριών του νησιού, έκανε τη Μαρία να ποθήσει την αγνή μοναχική ζωή. Αλλά η αγάπη προς τους γονείς της, τη συγκρατούσε στο πατρικό της σπίτι. Όταν όμως αυτοί πέθαναν η Μαρία δοκίμασε τη μοναχική ζωή κοντά σε μια ευσεβή χήρα, που ασκήτευε με τις δύο θυγατέρες της. Μετά απ' αυτή τη μοναχική εμπειρία, αποφάσισε να προσχωρήσει στις μοναχικές τάξεις. Χειροτονήθηκε λοιπόν μοναχή και μετονομάσθηκε Ματρώνα. Η διαγωγή της μέσα στη μικρή αδελφότητα ήταν άριστη. Η διάθεση της πάντοτε αγαθή, φιλάδελφη, ταπεινή και εγκάρδια. Μάλιστα, από τα έσοδα της πώλησης της περιουσίας της, κτίστηκε στο μοναστήρι ωραιότατος ναός. Μετά από κάποιο χρόνο, πέθανε η γυναίκα που κοντά της η Ματρώνα γυμνάστηκε στη μοναχική ζωή. Τότε όλες οι μοναχές από κοινού, εξέλεξαν ηγουμένη -παρά τη θέληση της- τη Ματρώνα. Υπό τις οδηγίες της η αδελφότητα ζούσε με πολλή εγκράτεια, υπακοή και ευσέβεια. Το 1462 η Ματρώνα πέθανε, αφού έζησε ζωή πραγματικά αγία. (Άλλες πηγές υπολογίζουν τον χρόνο κοιμήσεως της Αγίας 100 περίπου χρόνια πριν το 1462, διότι η πρώτη βιογραφία της γράφτηκε από τον Μητροπολίτη Ρόδου Νείλο (1357). A recent issue of Time Magazine contained an interview with Richard Dawkins, a biologist and popular author well-known for his vehemently atheistic opinions. As part of the interview, a reader asked, "Given how little we know about the universe, how can we possibly be sure there is no God?"Dawkins' answer: "There are all sorts of things we can't be sure of we can't be sure there are no leprechauns and fairies. Science in the future is going to be revealing all sorts of things which we have no idea of at present, but it's extremely unlikely that it would happen to home in on an idea from a Bronze Age tribe in the desert." With typical disdain, he breezily equates belief in God's existence with belief in leprechauns and fairies.dawkins claims that reliable truth must be based on evidence. He has no use for religious faith, which he calls "blind trust in the absence of evidence." Yet his answer to the Time Magazine reader is not at all based on evidence. He says that it's "highly unlikely" that science will "home in on" the God of the ancient Scriptures. Where's the evidence for such a statement? What facts is it based on? How does he know this?in giving such an answer, Dawkins unwittingly displays his own faith, his absolute certainty that only science can reveal truth. It's a very dogmatic faith, too. It leads him to claim that anyone who doesn't share it is deluded, holding onto an "infantile" idea, a relic from a superstitious era in human history.this exclusive faith in science is the basis for the title of one of Dawkins' best-known books, "The God Delusion." He writes that a world without God would be a better one, because religious faith cripples people's minds.the Orthodox Church knows about delusion. In the baptismal service, God is asked to remove far from the one being baptized his or her "former delusion." In his book "For the Life of the World" Father Alexander Schmemann describes baptism as God's gift to bring us out of delusion into truth. He writes: "The world from which the human being has received his life, and which will determine this life, is a prison. The Church did not have to wait for Kafka or Sartre to know it. But the Church also knows that the gates of this hell have been broken and that another Power has entered the world and claimed it for its true Owner. "Father Alexander then discusses the exorcism prayers, in which the baptismal candidate is asked to renounce Satan and confess faith in God. Father writes that the meaning of the exorcisms is "to face evil, to acknowledge its reality, to know its power, and to proclaim the power of God to destroy it. The exorcisms announce the forthcoming baptism as an act of victory."
