This Monastery was founded by Saint Leontios in c As the son of an aristrocratic family of Constantinople, the Monastery was built with the support of his uncles Thomas and Demetrios Paleologos, who were impressed by the saintliness of their nephews life. As a gift they gave him also the Skull of St. Kyriaki from Constantinople, which remains a priceless treasure of the Monastery.

Resurrection Apolytikion in First Tone When the stone had been sealed by the Jews and the soldiers were guarding Thine immaculate Body, Thou didst arise on the third day, O Saviour, granting life unto the world. Wherefore, the powers of the Heavens cried out to Thee, O Lifegiver: Glory to Thy Resurrection, O Christ. Glory to Thy Kingdom. Glory to Thy dispensation, O only Friend of man. Constantine and Helen Having seen the image of Thy Cross in Heaven, and like Paul, having received the call not from men, Thine apostle among kings entrusted the commonwealth to Thy hand, O Lord. Keep us always in peace, by the intercessions of the Theotokos, O only Friend of man. Apolytikion of St. Nicholas, The truth of things hath revealed thee to thy flock as a rule of faith, an icon of meekness, and a teacher of temperance; for this cause, thou hast achieved the heights by humility, riches by poverty. O Father and Hierarch Nicholas, intercede with Christ God that our souls be saved. 3 ρωτά τον προσευχόμενο, σαν και τότε το Μωυσή στην Ερυθρά θάλασσα «Τι βοάς προς με;». Η αγία Κυριακή προσευχήθηκε για ώρα πολλή κι ύστερα έγειρε στη γη. Όταν ο δήμιος πλησίασε για να εκτέλεσει τη διαταγή, είδε πως η αγία Κυριακή ήταν νεκρή. Η ψυχή της παιδούλας πέταξε σαν μικρό πουλί, και φωτεινός άγγελος την πήρε, για να τη φέρει στο Νυμφίο Χριστό. Ας μείνομε στο όνομα της αγίας Κυριακής, στο γεγονός δηλαδή ότι οι ευσεβείς γονείς της την ονόμασαν έτσι, επειδή γεννήθηκε σε ημέρα Κυριακή. Το όνομα συνδέεται στενά με το πρόσωπο και τη συνείδηση του άνθρωπου. Ενώ το όνομα είναι έξω από τον άνθρωπο και προστίθεται σ' αυτόν ύστερα, όμως συνδέεται τόσο μαζί του, που γίνεται ένα μ' αυτόν. Έτσι καταλαβαίνουμε την καλή συνήθεια των ευσεβών χριστιανών να δίνουν στα παιδιά τους ονόματα Αγίων της πίστης. Με αυτό τον τρόπο και με την ευκαιρία που η Εκκλησία κάθε χρόνο εορτάζει τα ιερά της πρόσωπα, ο κάθε χριστιανός στο όνομά του έχει μια συνεχή υπόμνηση της ευσέβειας. Ο άγιος Ιωάννης ο Χρυσόστομος λέγει πως με το όνομα εισάγει «εις την οικίαν έκαστος την εαυτού τον άγιον». Αμήν. Saint Kyriaki the Great Martyr Saint Kyriaki was the daughter of Christian parents, Dorotheus and Eusebia. She was given her name because she was born on Sunday, the day of the Lord (in Greek, Kyriaki).Kyriaki was raised in a Christian enviornment and was highly respected, extremely educated, and philanthropic, but also very beautiful. Dorotheus and Eusevia were elderly and wanted security for Kyriaki upon their deaths which could be obtained through marriage. Kyriaki, being very devout in her Christian beliefs, wanted to follow the teachings of Saint Paul. In his Epistles to the Corinthians, he said that the highest virtue a woman could achieve was to guard her virginity and become a bride of Christ; therefore, Kyriaki refused her parents request.the Saint s parents were not dismayed, but praised God for granting them such a blessed child. Unfortunately, Kyriaki s family was well known to the idolaters for their wealth and for Kyriaki herself. One of the idolaters wanted Kyriaki to marry his only son and she refused the proposal. Being extremely insulted and angered, the nobleman went to Diocletian and told him that this family did not worship the idols of the Romans. Diocletian summoned Dorotheus, Eusevia, and Kyriaki to his palace and ordered them to make sacrifices to the idols. Dorotheus told Diocletian that the only true God was Jesus Christ and that they would not worship the false gods of the Romans. Diocletian sent Dorotheus and Eusevia to the town of Melitini in Asia Minor to be tortured and executed. He sent Saint Kyriaki to Maximian, the ruler of Nicomedia, so that he could persuade her to sacrifice to the idols.dorotheus and Eusevia were tortured unmercifully. Upon seeing that they would not convert, Diocletian ordered his soldiers to execute them. Maximian tried to persuade the Saint with words and then by action to convert; however, Kyriaki remained steadfast in her beliefs. Maximian then sent her to the ruler of Bethany, Elarius, hoping that he could change her beliefs. Elarius ordered that the Saint be hung by her hair and that her naked body be burned with torches. Kyriaki faced the torture with great courage. She was then taken back to prison. That night, Kyriaki had a dream where Christ appeared to her. He said, Kyriaki, have no fear of the tortures, for I am with you and will protect you. He healed her burns and ascended into heaven.the next day, Elarius summoned the Saint before him and seeing that her body had no wounds, he attributed the miracle to the pagan gods. Kyriaki informed him that she had not been cured by his gods, but by her Savior, Jesus Christ. Kyriaki was then taken to the pagan temple. After she had prayed to Christ, all the idols were destroyed. An earthquake shook the temple and Elarius was struck and killed by lightning.after Elarius death, the ruler Apollonius was sent to rule Bethany. When he heard that Saint Kyriaki was trying to convert people to Christianity, he ordered his soldiers to find and seize her. He questioned the Saint and upon finding her guilty, ordered that she be burned to death. As God saved the three boys from the furnace, so he did with Saint Kyriaki. When the Saint began to pray, a heavy rain fell from a cloudless sky and extinguished the flames. When Apollonius saw that the fire had no effect on the Saint, Kyriaki was placed in an arena with two lions. The lions began to go towards the Saint and as soon as they reached her, they knelt on the ground at her feet. Many idolaters who witnessed this miracle confessed their belief in Christ and Apollonius immediately had these people executed. Kyriaki was again returned to prison.the following day, Apollonius ordered his soldiers to bring Kyriaki before him to try again for her to denounce her beliefs which she refused and told him that she would welcome death since it meant sacrificing herself for Christ. Apollonius then decided to behead Kyriaki. When she was taken to the place of her execution, she asked to be left alone so that she could pray. Her request was granted and after she finished praying, angels descended and received her soul. When the executioners returned, they found that Saint Kyriaki had already died. They returned to Apollonius and informed him of the events which had occurred.christians took the body of the Virgin Martyr for burial, praising God and glorifying the courage of Saint Kyriaki. The Reading is according to St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 3:23-29; 4:1-5 BRETHREN, before faith came, we were confined under the law, kept under restraint until faith should be revealed. So that the law was our custodian until Christ came, that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a custodian; for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise. I mean that the heir, as long as he is a child, is no better than a slave, though he is the owner of all the estate; but he is under guardians and trustees until the date set by the father. So with us; when we were children, we were slaves to the elemental spirits of the universe. Year Anniversary Gala at Steiner Βίος της Αγίας Μεγαλομάρτυρος Κυριακής, της θαυματουργού Στις 7 Ιουλίου η Εκκλησία εορτάζει και τιμά την ιερή μνήμη της αγίας μεγαλομάρτυρος Κυριακής. Η αγία Κυριακή είναι από τα ιερά θύματα των τελευταίων αρχαίων διωγμών της Εκκλησίας. Μαρτύρησε στα χρόνια του Διοκλητιανού, που βασίλεψε από το 284 ως το 305. Οι αρχαίοι διωγμοί είναι από τις ενδοξότερες ημέρες στη ζωή της Εκκλησίας, αλλά και κάθε διωγμός, γιατί είναι αλήθεια ότι η Εκκλησία πάντα διώκεται. Η αγία Κυριακή ήταν θυγατέρα ευσεβών γονέων. Ο πατέρας της Δωρόθεος κι η μητέρα της Ευσεβία δεν είχαν παιδιά. Προσεύχονταν και παρακαλούσαν το Θεό να τους δώσει ένα παιδί και να του το αφιερώσουν. Ο Θεός άκουσε την προσευχή των ευσεβών γονέων, και μια Κυριακή γεννήθηκε ένα ωραίο κοριτσάκι. Ο Δωρόθεος και η Ευσεβία, πιστοί στην υπόσχεση τους, το ονόμασαν Κυριακή και το ανάθρεψαν με κάθε φροντίδα και επιμέλεια, ως αφιερωμένο στο Θεό. Η ατεκνία πάντα είναι μεγάλη λύπη για τους συζύγους και μάλιστα για τούς Χριστιανούς, αλλά και η χαρά τους πάλι πολύ μεγάλη, όταν αποκτήσουν παιδί. Γι' αυτό με κάθε τρόπο, και πρώτα με το όνομα που δίνουν στο παιδί, δείχνουν την ευγνωμοσύνη τους στο Θεό. Στο διωγμό που κήρυξε ο Διοκλητιανός εναντίον των χριστιανών, η Κυριακή θα ήταν μια παιδούλα ούτε ως είκοσι ακόμα ετών. Τότε και οι γονείς και η θυγατέρα κατηγορήθηκαν και πιάστηκαν ως χριστιανοί. Και το πιο σκληρό ήταν ότι χωρίστηκε το κορίτσι από τους γονείς του το Δωρόθεο και την Ευσεβία τους πήγαν προς την Αρμενία και την Κυριακή την οδήγησαν στη Νικομήδεια. Εκεί ο ηγεμόνας, ανακρίνοντας την παιδούλα και βλέποντας τη σταθερή της πίστη, έδωκε διαταγή να τη μαστιγώσουν σκληρά. Η Κυριακή σε κάθε ερώτηση απαντούσε- «Είμαι χριστιανή». Και σε κάθε απειλή του ηγεμόνα έλεγε «Μην πλανιέσαι και μη σε ξεγελάει ο λογισμός σου με βοηθάει ο Θεός και δεν θα με νικήσεις». Ύστερα από εξαντλητική ανάκριση, οδήγησαν την αγία Κυριακή στο ναό, για να θυσιάσει στα είδωλα. Εκείνη, μπαίνοντας στο ναό, παρακαλούσε μέσα της το Χριστό να τη βοηθήσει. Ένας δυνατός τότε σεισμός κατατρόμαξε τους δημίους και τα αγάλματα του ναού έπεσαν κι έγιναν κομμάτια. Άναψαν ύστερα φωτιά για να την κάψουν ζωντανή, μα όπως τη βάτο του Μωυσή, την κύκλωσαν οι φλόγες, μα δεν την έκαψαν. Την έρριξαν ύστερα στα θηρία, μα κι εκείνα δεν την πείραξαν, παρόμοια όπως το Δανιήλ, όταν τον έρριξαν στο λάκκο των λεόντων. Θα περίμενε κανένας ο ηγεμόνας να ανοίξει τα μάτια του και να δει το θαύμα του Θεού, μα έξαλλος και τυφλωμένος από οργή έδωκε διαταγή να αποκεφαλίσουν το αθώο κι αγνό κορίτσι. Η αγία Κυριακή, πριν ο δήμιος εκτελέσει τη διαταγή, ζήτησε να την αφήσουνε να προσευχηθεί. Γονάτισε τότε κι άρχισε να προσεύχεται. Κανένας δεν άκουσε τα λόγια της, γιατί σε τέτοιες στιγμές η καρδιά του ανθρώπου, προσεύχεται «στεναγμοίς αλλαλήτοις». Δεν κινούνται τα χείλη, δεν ακούεται φωνή. Κι όμως ο Θεός ακούει, κι είναι σαν και να
