2 INTRDUCTIN This service manual describes the latest technical information for the ID-A/ID-E UHF TRANSCEIVER, at the time of publication. CAUTIN NEVER connect the transceiver to an AC outlet or to a DC power supply that uses more than the specified voltage. This will ruin the transceiver. D NT expose the transceiver to rain, snow or any liquids. D NT reverse the polarities of the power supply when connecting the transceiver. D NT apply an RF signal of more than dbm ( mw) to the antenna connector. This could damage the transceiver s front-end. ALWAYS connect a db attenuator between the transceiver and a Deviation Meter or Spectrum Analyzer, when using such test equipment.. READ the instructions of the test equipment throughly before connecting it to the transceiver. CIRCUIT DESCRIPTIN - RECEIVE CIRCUITS RF CIRCUITS (MAIN UNIT) The RX signal from the antenna is passed through two s (L, L, C, C, C, C, C and L9, C, C), ANT (D, D, D, D, L, C, C, C9) and tuned BPF (D, L, C), and then applied to the RF AMP (Q). The amplified signal is passed through the tuned BPF (D, D9, D, L, L, L, C, C9, C9, C9, C9, C99 C, C, C), and then applied to the st IF circuits. RF CIRCUITS D,D D,D From the TX AMP circuits ANT D,D9,D D To the st IF circuits BPF RF BPF ST IF CIRCUITS (MAIN UNIT) The RX signal from the RF circuits is applied to the st IF mixer (Q), and mixed with the st L signal from the VC (Q, D D), resulting in the. MHz st IF signal. The st IF signal is passed through the st IF fi lter (FI) and limiter (D), and then applied to the st IF AMP (Q). The amplifi ed signal is passed through another limiter (D), and then applied to the nd IF circuits. ST IF CIRCUITS To the nd IF circuits From the VC LIMIT D ND IF CIRCUITS (MAIN UNIT) The st IF signal from the st IF circuits is applied to the IF IC (IC, pin ). The IF IC contains the nd mixer, nd IF AMP, detector, and so on, in its package. The st IF signal is mixed with the nd L signal from the reference frequency oscillator (TCX: X), resulting in the khz nd IF signal. The nd IF signal is passed through the nd IF fi lter (FI: for DV/FM-N mode, FI: for FM mode) to remove sideband noise. The fi ltered signal is amplifi ed by the nd IF AMP, and demodulated by the quadrature detector with discriminator (X). The demodulated AF signal is applied to the RX AF circuits. The AF signal from the MAIN UNIT is amplifi ed by the AF AMP (LGIC UNIT: ICA, pins, ) and passed through the (LGIC UNIT: ICB, pins, ), and then applied to the liner CDEC (LGIC UNIT: IC, pin ) to be encoded in to a digital audio signal. The digital audio signal is demodulated by the DSP (LGIC UNIT: IC), and then applied to the linear codec (LGIC UNIT: IC) to be decoded into an analog audio signal. The decoded AF signal is applied to the MAIN UNIT. The AF signal is passed through the mode (MAIN UNIT: IC, pins, ) and AF fi lters (MAIN UNIT: IC9B, pins, and IC9C, pins 9, ), and then applied to the D/A converter (MAIN UNIT: IC, pin ) to be adjusted in level. DIGITAL DEMDULATIN CIRCUITS While operating in the FM/FM-N mode The demodulated AF signal is passed through the (R, C), mode (MAIN UNIT: IC, pins, ) and AF fi lters (MAIN UNIT: IC9B, pins, and IC9C, pins 9, ), and then applied to the D/A converter (MAIN UNIT: IC, pin ) to be adjusted in level. The level-adjusted AF signal is amplifi ed by the AF power AMP (MAIN UNIT: IC, pin ), and then output from the internal speaker (CHASSIS: SP) or external speaker, through the SP jack (MAIN UNIT: J). 12 - TRANSMIT CIRCUITS TX AF CIRCUITS (LGIC AND MAIN UNITS) The AF signal from the internal or external microphone (MIC signal) is applied to the MIC AMP (LGIC UNIT: IC9B, pin ). When operating in the DV mode The amplifi ed signal is passed through the MIC mute (LGIC UNIT: IC, pins, ), and then further amplifi ed by the ALC AMP (LGIC UNIT: IC, pin ). The amplifi ed signal is applied to the liner CDEC (LGIC UNIT: IC, pin ), through the buffer (LGIC UNIT: ICB, pins, ), to be encoded into a digital audio signal. The digital audio signal is processed by the DSP (LGIC UNIT: IC), and then applied to the linear codec (LGIC UNIT: IC) to be converted into the digital baseband signal. When operating in the FM/FM-N mode The amplifi ed signal is passed through the MIC mute (LGIC UNIT: IC, pins, ), and then applied to the MAIN UNIT. The MIC signal is passed through the HPF (MAIN UNIT: R, C, C), BPF (MAIN UNIT: IC9A, pins, ), (MAIN UNIT: IC9D, pins, ) and mode (MAIN UNIT: IC, pins, 9), and then applied to the D/A converter (MAIN UNIT: IC, pin ) to be adjusted in level. The level-adjusted signal is applied to the modulation circuits. The digital baseband signal is passed through the (LGIC UNIT: ICA, pins, ), and then applied to the MAIN UNIT. The modulated VC output signal is passed through the buffer (Q) and amplifi ed by the L AMP (Q), and then applied to the TX AMP circuits as the TX signal, through the L (D). MDULATIN CIRCUITS From the TX AF circuits VC BUFF Q, Q D,D,D L AMP Q L To the TX AMP circuits D,D TX AMP CIRCUITS (MAIN UNIT) The TX signal is passed through the buffer (Q) and attenuator (D, D) which controls the TX output power by the APC AMP (IC). The TX signal is sequentially amplifi ed by the YGR (Q9) and drive AMP (Q), and then passed through the (L, C, C). The fi ltered TX signal is applied to the power AMP (Q). The amplifi ed TX signal is passed through the (L, L, C, C, C, C), ANT (D, D), TX output power detector (D, D) and two s (L9, C, C and L, L, C, C, C, C, C), before being applied to the antenna. APC CIRCUITS (MAIN UNIT) The voltage produced at the s (L9, C, C and L, L, C, C, C, C, C) is rectifi ed by D and D, and it is used as the TX power sensing voltage. The voltage is applied to the APC AMP (IC, pin ), and the output voltage controls the bias voltages of attenuator (D, D) to keep the TX output power constant. 13 - FREQUENCY SYNTHESIZER (MAIN UNIT) VC The ID-A/E has a VC (Q, D D) which generates both the st L signal and the TX signal. The output of buffer (Q) is amplifi ed by the L AMP (Q), and then used as the TX/RX L signal. While receiving, the L signal is applied to the st IF mixer (Q), through the L (D) and (L, C, C9). While transmitting, the L signal is applied to the TX AMP circuits, through the L (D), buffer (Q) and attenuator (D, D). PLL A portion of VC output signal is passed through two buffers (Q9 and Q) and (L, C C9, C), and then fed back to the PLL IC (IC, pin ). The PLL IC (IC) phase-compares the output of reference frequency oscillator (TCX; X) and VC, and the phasedifference is output as the charge pump current. The current is passed though the loop fi lter (R, R, R9, R9, C, C9, C9, C9, C) to be converted into the lock voltage, which controls the oscillating frequency of VC. When the oscillation frequency drifts, its phase changes from that of the reference frequency, causing a lock voltage change to compensate for the drift in the VC oscillating frequency.
