M ethods 32 Guizhou m iniature p igs w ere divided random ly into four group s (n= 8), including con tro l group, tetrandrine group, CM Q group, and tetrandrine associating CM Q group. A ll experim ental anim als w ere fasted overnigh t w ithout access to w ater fo r six hours befo re operation, and then po rtal vein and vena cava paracentesis w as perfo rm ed w ith sterile technique. SA P model w as induced by injecting 5% sodium deoxycho late (0. 5 m lgkg w eigh t) into the pancreatic duct at a con stan t p ressu re. O ne hou r after the operation, saline, CM Q, tetrandrine o r CM Q associating tetrandrine w as adm in istered acco rdingly by in travenou s drip o r by gastric catheterization. A t p re2model, and 1 h, 6 h, 12 h, 24 h, 48 h, 72 h and 96 h after inducem ent of SA P, blood w as draw n from all p igs via the po rtal vein and vena cava at the sam e tim e. Results Compared w ith N S group, tetrandrine and CM Q reduced the mo rtality significantly (P < 0. 05 o r P < 0. 01), and attenuated the increase of gastrin level and the decrease of mo tilin level bo th in the po rtal vein and vena cava. T he effect of tetrandrine w as sim ilar to that of CM Q (P > 0. 05). T he effect of their association w as mo re significant than that of the o ther group s (P < 0. 05 o r P < 0. 01). A lso, the patho logic mo rpho logy in the pancreas and duodenum imp roved in tetrandrine and CM Q group ṡ Conclusion s T he results of th is study show ed that tetrandrine and CM Q offered good therapeutic effects on p ig SA P induced by sodium deoxycho late. T he m echanism sm igh t be related to their m ulti functions on the stressed body by decreasing the h igher gastrin level to p revent the stress u lcer, and by increasing the low er m o tilin level, thu s accelerating in testinal peristalsis and drainage of po isonous substances to p revent ileus and endo toxem ia in SA P.
