Research Overview, Highlights and Achievements Big Data Systems and Data Services A main area f interest cncerns Entity reslutin in Big Data Integratin settings, such as duplicate detectin and entity interlinking. I have wrked n Blcking \ Meta-blcking techniques, Parallelizatin techniques and Machine Learning techniques in Entity reslutin flws fr imprving the perfrmance and quality f the prcess. In this cntext, I have been invlved in OpenAire prject, where we have develped a scalable framewrk ver Apache Spark fr interlinking schlarly data. My research has recently fcused n end-t-end big data slutins fr managing massive streams frm IT devices. I am prject crdinatr f an industry-funded prject between IMSI, Intracm Telecm and Ericssn started in Octber 2017. IMSI has been cntracted t design and develp a big data slutin and machine learning methds fr stream analytics n netwrk data cming frm IT devices, such as autnmus cars. The slutin is based n wellestablished big data platfrms, i.e., Micrsft EventHubs, Cludera Ecsystem, SPARK streaming and SPARK ML and enables the cllectin f vast amunt f netwrk measurement streams frm cnnected devices, their scalable prcessing, analysis and strage and the visualizatin f several KPIs. Finally, I participate in a EU-Funded COST Actin, WISE-ACT, studying the wider implicatins f the deplyment f autnmus and cnnected vehicles n existing rad infrastructure in EU. My interest is n the adptin f nvel clud and data management technlgies fr nline analytics and reactin t events. 1

Data Analytics. An active directin in my research cncerns the areas f Data visualizatin, Explratin and Visual Analytics. In this area: A recent natinal prject that I am crdinating, called VisualFacts, is related t self-service scalable visual analytics ver big data. Self-service visual analytics is a new paradigm, widely prmted in mdern crprate envirnments, in which business users are enabled and encuraged t directly manipulate (explre, blend, analyze) underlying data in rich visual ways, in rder t derive insights frm business infrmatin as quickly and efficiently as pssible. The aim f VisualFacts is t develp a clud-based scalable platfrm fr prviding self-service visual analytic capabilities t a wide range f nn-crprate users t access, explre, analyze pen and privately-held data and cllabrate n the analytic results f their wrk by sharing, anntating and reusing them in the frm f pen facts. Als, I am interested in Data Explratin techniques. I am cllabrating with University f Iannina, as a pstdc researcher, in a Natinal prject, called Pligia, aiming at enabling efficient and interactive visual analysis f very large raw data files (e.g., csv, jsn, etc). Our system emplys an in-memry data structure that addresses the visual needs and enables users t perfrm several visual explratin scenaris. I have crdinated www.sciscpe.gr a prject that created a visual analysis tl, targeting primarily scial scientists, fr visualizatin and explratin f scial and plitical data. We have develped GraphVizDB, a tl that enables the visualizatin and explratin f very large graphs. Data Web An active line f nging wrk is in the area f RDF Indexing and Query Prcessing in RDF stres. We have develped a scalable apprach fr query prcessing f large RDF stres, based n a nvel indexing technique, called Extended Characteristic Sets. We are wrking n distributed Query Prcessing appraches ver these nvel data structure. I have als wrked n OLAP analytics n the Web. We have develped an apprach that emplys data mining techniques and analyzes and detects relatinships in OLAP data published n the web in the frm f multidimensinal data. Statistical Linked Data. I have crdinated www.linked-statistics.gr, a prject that makes available in the frm f Linked Data, sci-ecnmic and sci-demgraphic data, frm the Hellenic Statistical Authrity. Web Data dynamics has been a primary fcus f my research, invlving prblems related t Linked Data Evlutin & Archiving, Tempral & Change Mdelling, Change Prpagatin and Synchrnizatin, Practive design, and Benchmarking. I was actively invlved in the DIACHRON prject, which addressed many f the abve issues. Using data web technlgies fr creating and managing Persnal dataspaces is an active research wrk. We have develped www.linkz.gr, a web-based, linked data enabled tl that supprts cllabrative management f infrmatin resurces, enabling users t create and manage diverse types f resurces int cmmn spaces such as files, web dcuments, peple, datasets and calendar events. A recent prject I have crdinated, deals with the Semantic Representatin f Legal Dcuments. We have develped a framewrk fr autmatic Structuring and Semantic Indexing f Legal Dcuments, used in the electrnic library f the Greek General Secretariat f Public Revenue (in Greek). Open Science Clud and Research Infrastructures I am the technical manager f an H2020 prject, called einfracentral, which will serve as the main catalgue and the single gateway fr research services ffered by e-infrastructures in the upcming Eurpean Open Science Clud. I designed in the cntext f an H2020 prject, called EOSCPilt, a framewrk that mnitrs Open Science trends and their impact n research and prvides insights and KPIs t researchers, funders and academia.
