Ne RESULTS: The soap product tested (AlmondMed) showed a total plate count reduction of 3.12 Log 10 ' The Gram negative Enterobacteriaceae were reduced 2.15 Log 10 and the Gram positive staphylococci were reduced 2.23Log 1 o. The test also provided data as to what is the effect of the hand rubbing procedure during water washing σπ the bacterialload present οπ hand skin as well as to what is the effect of the hand wiping procedure after hand wash. Taking into consideration the effect of the mechanical action it can be noted that plain water without the addition of soap could not reduce significantly the bacterialload thus the bacterial reduction observed is mainly due to the use of the soap tested. In addition a further ca. 50% reduction could be achieved by a following hand wiping procedure. CONCLUSION Due to the lack of internationally approved standards σπ specifying the procedure steps of assessing the efficacy of πσπ bactericidal hand soaps there is πσ threshold value which should be achieved ίπ order to evaluate the product as effective οτ not. However the obtained values can be assessed by the laboratory as satisfactory according to the product description. The product has been evaluated ίπ vίvσ under conditions which human hands have been contaminated with animal proteins and fat as well as microbiologicalload. The organic matter present οπ hands (animal proteins and fat) played a significant role ίπ deactivating active ingredients of the product tested thus it provided harsh conditions for assessing its efficacy.
