6 Servce factor The servce factor (s.f.) depends on the operatng condtons the gear reducer s subjected to. Avod applcatons where even partal mmerson of the reducer s requred. The maxmum torque (*) that the reducer can support must not exceed two tmes the nomnal torque (s.f.=1) stated n the ratngs tables. 7 Installaton To nstall the gear reducer t s necessary to note the followng recommendatons: - Check the correct drecton of rotaton of the gear reducer output shaft before fttng the unt to the machne. - In the case of partcularly lengthy perods of storage (4/6 months), f the ol seal s not mmersed n the lubrcant nsde the unt, t s recommended to change t snce the rubber could stck to the shaft or may even have lost the elastcty t needs to functon properly. - Whenever possble, protect the gear reducer aganst solar radaton and bad weather. - Ensure the motor cools correctly by ensurng good passage of ar from the fan sde. - In the case of ambent temperatures < 23 F or > 104 F call the Techncal Servce. - The varous parts (pulleys, gear wheels, couplngs, shafts, etc.) must be mounted on the sold or hollow shafts usng specal threaded holes or other systems that anyhow ensure correct operaton wthout rskng damage to the bearngs or external parts of the unts. - Lubrcate the surfaces n contact to avod sezure or oxdaton. - Pantng must defntely not go over rubber parts and the holes on the breather plugs, f any. - For unts equpped wth ol plugs, replace the closed plug used for shppng wth the specal breather plug. - Check the correct level of the lubrcant through the ndcator, f there s one. - Startng must take place gradually, wthout mmedately applyng the maxmum load. - When there are parts, objects or materals under the motor drve that can be damaged by even lmted spllage of ol, specal protecton should be ftted. Overhung load The value of the admssble Overhung load () (lb) s gven n the tables relatng to the ratngs of the gear reducer at ssue. It s related to the load appled on the centre lne of the shaft and n the most unfavourable condtons of angle of applcaton and drecton of rotaton. The maxmum admssble thrust loads are 1/5 of the value of the gven Overhung load () when they are appled n combnaton wth the Overhung load (). The tables relatng to the output shafts gve the maxmum admssble value. Ths value must never be exceeded snce t relates to the strength of the case. Partcular condtons of Overhung load () hgher than the lmts of the catalogue may occur. In ths case, call our Techncal Sevce and provde detals on the applcaton: drecton of the load, drecton of rotaton of the shaft, type of servce. In case of double extenson shafts wth radal load appled on both ends, the max. admssble radal loads must be defned accordng to the specfc runnng condtons, n ths case call our Techncal Servce. Partcular condtons of radal load hgher than the lmts of the catalogue may occur. In ths case, call our Techncal Sevce and provde detals on the applcaton: drecton of the load, drecton of rotaton of the shaft, type of servce. 9 Moments of nerta Followng values are ndcatve only and refer to gear reducers ftted wth nput flange. These values refer to maxmum moment of nerta. In the case of temperatures under -22 F or over 140 F t s necessary to use ol seals wth specal propertes. For operatng ranges wth temperatures under 32 F t s necessary to consder the followng: 1 The motors need to be sutable for operaton at the envsaged ambent temperature. 2 The power of the electrc motor needs to be adequate for exceedng the hgher startng torques requred. 3 In case of cast-ron gear reducers, pay attenton to mpact loads snce cast ron may have problems of fraglty at temperatures under 5 F. 4 Durng the early stages of servce, problems of lubrcaton may arse due to the hgh level of vscosty taken on by the ol and so t s wse to have a few mnutes of rotaton under no load. The ol needs to be changed after approxmately 10,000 hours. Ths perod depends on the type of servce and the envronment where the gear reducer works. For unts suppled wthout ol plugs, lubrcaton s permanent and so they need no servcng. NMRV B B B6-B V V H A31 B NMRV-P B3 B8 B6-B7 V V HW B Quantty of ol n ltres ~ Lubrcant quanttes are only ndcatve. For correct fllng always refer to the sght glass or the dpstck, when ths s suppled. Any ol level dfferences can be caused by constructve tolerances but also on the mountng poston or the assembly scheme of the customer. Therefore t s very mportant for the customer to check ol level and f necessary to add the necessary quantty. The gear reducers sze are suppled complete wth lubrcant for lfe, synthetc ol, ENI TELIUM VSF. They can be mounted n any poston envsaged n the catalogue, except for NMRV and NRV for whch you must to specfy the mountng poston. For szes 130 and 150 t s necessary to specfy the poston, otherwse the gear reducers are suppled wth the quantty of ol relatng to pos. B3. Only reducton unts 130 and 150 are ftted wth breather, level and ol dranage plugs. It s necessary, after nstallaton, to replace the closed plug used for transportaton wth the breather plug suppled wth the unt. The pre-stage helcal modules are suppled complete wth lfe-long lubrcant, synthetc ol, ENI TELIUM VSF. Lubrcaton s separated from that of the worm gear reducers. 7

27 Effcency Effcency s a parameter whch has a major nfluence on the szng of certan applcatons, and bascally depends on gear par desgn elements. The gear mesh data table on page 26 shows dynamc effcency (n1=1750) and statc effcency values. Remember that these values are only acheved after the unt has been run n. Dynamc rreversblty Dynamc rreversblty s acheved when the output shaft stops nstantly when drve s no longer transmtted through the worm shaft. Ths condton requres a dynamc effcency of ηd < 0.5 (see table on page 26). Statc rreversblty Statc rreversblty s acheved when, wth the gear reducer at a standstll, the applcaton of a load to the output shaft does not set n moton the worm shaft. Ths condton requres a statc effcency of ηs < 0.5 (see table on page 26). Note: Vbratons and shocks can affect a gear reducer s rreversblty. Proceed to the sleeve mountage to the motor shaft takng care to ensure the motor shaft and bearngs are not damaged by avodng excessve force and where necessary usng assembly equpment. Always use good procedures and practses that ensure correct operaton wthout rskng damage to the motor or unt bearngs. Motor key adjustment s not provded. 27
