2 FOREWORD AND ACKNOWLEGEMENTS This Divine Liturgy boo and hymnal is designed for use by congregations in conjunction with the Divine Liturgy boos published by New Byzantium Publications on the World-Wide Web at This boo contains the text of the Divine Liturgy and a hymnal of music which are used on normal Sundays. The music offers two settings, one in Plagal Fourth Tone (major) and another in Plagal First Tone (minor). This boo does not include text and hymns for feast days or wee days. Refer to your church bulletin or other source to find the substitutions for a particular day or feast. Many of the hymns for these feasts may be found at This boo is dedicated to the priests and hierarchs whom I, the author, have had the honor to serve, especially Fr. John Poulos, of blessed memory, who tapped me to be his chanter; His Grace Bishop Timothy of Detroit, of blessed memory, who ased me to translate Byzantine chant hymns into English; and Fr. Constantine Christo, who wanted well-done English-language music in the choir. Thans to Fr. Michael Varlamos for requesting this boo KONTAKION Προστασία των Χριστιανών a j 6 4 j j Ðñï - óôá - óß - á ôùí ñé - óôé - á - íþí á - êá - ôáß - ó õí - ôå, ìå - óé - ôåß - á ðñüò ôïí Ðïé - ç - Pro - sta - si - a ton Chri - sti - a - non a - a - te - schin - te, me - si - ti - a pros ton Pi - i- - ôþí á - ìå - ôü - èå - ôå, ìç ðá - ñß - äçò á - ìáñ - ôù - ëþí äå - ç - óå - üí öù- a4 j 3 4 j 4 j 6 4 j z s t - tin a - me - ta - the - te, mi pa - ri - dhis a - mar - to - lon dhe - i - se - on fo- - íüò, áë - ëü ðñü - öèá - óïí, ùò á - ãá - èþ, åéò ôçí âï - Þ - èåé - áí ç - ìþí, ôùí ðé- a4 z s j 6 4 d d 4 zd s j t t - nas, al - la pro - ftha - son, os a - ya - thi, is tin vo - i - thi - an i - mon, ton pi- a j j 6 4 j 4 z s 6 4 t - óôþò êñáõ - ãá - îüí - ôùí óïé.
