Ningxia Medical University Yinchuan 750004 Abstract Objective To definite the alteration of extrasynapse GABAA receptor expression followed by the o- varian steroid hormone. and the correlation with the fluctuation of the ovarian steroid hormone. Methods The rats with well - established ovarian cycles were used. Two stages of the estrous cycle were chosen for comparison the estrus phase and the diestrus phase. The Elisa kit was used to detect the serum concentrations of estrogen and progesterone. Immunohistochemical method were used to marker the difference expression of subunitδin rats during estrus and diestrus. The relationship between the level of progesterone and extrasynaptic GABAA receptor subunit δ expression was analyzed. Results The levels of estrus serum estrogen were significantly higher than those of the diestrus group P < 0. 05. The levels of estrus serum progesterone were significantly lower than those of the diestrus group P < 0. 05. In the rat hippocampus dentate gyrus amygdala we found that the difference of the positive expression about subunit δ in both groups was significant P < 0. 05. The IOD value of subunit δ - positive increase in hippocampus dentate gyrus amygdala was parallel to the progesterone concentration increase during diestrus and estrus. By correlation analysis we found a linear correlation between two variables in a certain range. Conclusion The high level of progesterone during diestrus can cause high expression of extrasynaptic GABAA receptor subunit δ in hippocampus dentate gyrus and amygdale.
