G rad uate S chool of Ch inese A cad em y of S ciences) Abstract: F riction and w ear behavio rs of M os2 and PT FE2modified carbon fab ric compo sites w ere studied by u sing an Xuanw u2iii h igh temperatu re friction and w ear tester. Effects of M os2 con ten t and test temperatu re on the tribo logical p roperties of carbon fab ric compo sites w ere studied also. W o rn su rfaces and coun terpart w o rn su rface w ere analyzed by u sing a JSM 25600LV scann ing electron m icro scopy (SEM ) equ ipped w ith an energy dispersive X2ray analyzer (EDXA ). It is found that friction2reducing and an ti2w ear p roperties of car2 bon fab ric compo sites can be greatly imp roved by filling M os2, bu t PT FE as filler reinfo rced carbon fab ric compo sites is no t beneficial fo r enhancing their an ti2w ear and reducing2friction ab ility. W hen con ten t ofm os2 is 5% 15%, M os2 as filler can obviou sly reduce friction coefficien t of carbon fab ric compo sites. W hen con2 ten t of M os2 is 10%, carbon fab ric compo sites exh ib it best tribo logical p roperties. F riction coefficien t and w ear rate of M os22modified carbon fab ric compo sites is low er than unmodified carbon fab ric compo sites at differen t test temperatu res. W hen test temperatu re rises to 240, w ear rate of carbon fab ric compo sites in2 creases rap idly, bu t w ear rate of M os22modified carbon fab ric compo sites can be reduced 35% compared to that of unmodified carbon fab ric compo site.
