Ραψομανίκηπερατώθηκαν στην Βαρβάκειο Πρότυπο Σχολή των Αθηνών (τάξη του 1972). Μελέτησε Εφαρμοσμένη Χημεία στο Πανεπιστήμιο Χάλλαμ του Σέφφιλντ Αγγλίας (HallamSheffieldUniversity, U.K.) με πλήρη υποτροφία για όλα τα έτη σπουδών του, από την κομητεία του SouthGlamorgan. Το 1980 του απενεμήθη Δίπλωμα με Τιμητική Μνεία. Μελέτησε επίσης Περιβαλλοντική Χημεία στο Πανεπιστήμιο του ΝτεΜοντφορντ του Λέστερ Αγγλίας (LeicesterDeMontfordUniversity), με πλήρη υποτροφία από το NationalEnvironment Research Council. Tουαπενεμήθη ο Διδακτορικός Τίτλος το 1983. Μετά από διετή μεταδιδακτορική ερευνητική εργασία στις Η.Π.Α. (University of NewHampshire, NH, U.S.A) χρηματοδοτούμενη απο το «Sea Grant of USA» και τετραετή διδακτική και ερευνητική εργασία στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Έσσεξ Αγγλίας (Senior Research Officer, InstituteofAerosolScience, Chemistry Department, EssexUniversity, U.K.), ανέλαβε καθήκοντα το 1989 ως Επίκουρος καθηγητής στο Τμήμα Χημικών Μηχανικών του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης.Το 1990, μετά από πρόσκληση, ανέλαβε καθήκοντα ως Διευθυντής EρευνητικήςOμάδος στο Ινστιτούτο ΜάξΠλάνκ της Γερμανίας (GroupLeader, Max-PlanckInstitute for Chemistry, OttoHahnInstitute, Mainz, Germany) για έρευνα στα αέρια του θερμοκηπίου και τις ανταλλαγές τους από και πρός τους ωκεανούς. Στον Διευθυντή του Ινστιτούτου, καθηγητή PaulCrutzenαπενεμήθη το Βραβείο Νομπέλ για Ατμοσφαιρική Χημεία το 1995. Ο Σπυρίδων Ραψομανίκης επέστρεψε στην Ελλάδα το 1998 όπου ανέλαβε καθήκοντα ως Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής (και απο το 2002 ως καθηγητής) και Διευθυντής του Εργαστηρίου Ατμοσφαιρικής Ρύπανσης στο Τμήμα Μηχανικών Περιβάλλοντος του Δημοκριτείου Πανεπιστημίου Θράκης. Από τον Σεπτέμβριο 2002 ως τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2004 ήταν ο πρώτος εκλεγμένος Πρόεδρος του Τμήματος. Διετέλεσε επίσης ως κύριος Εθνικός Αντιπρόσωπος της χώρας μας στις Εθνικές Αντιπροσωπείες (1) ESA- High LevelSpace Policy Forum, (2) ESA-GMES and (3) ESFRI, για την διετία 2008-2010. Τα ερευνητικά ενδιαφέροντα του καθηγητή Σ. Ραψομανίκη εστιάζονται: 1. Στους βιογεωχημικούς κύκλους μετάλλων και οργανομεταλλικών ενώσεων, 2. Στις ανταλλαγές αυτών στην βιόσφαιρα, ατμόσφαιρα και ύδατα, 3. Στην παραγωγή βιοαερίων από την αποικοδόμηση οργανικών αστικών αποβλήτων και στις μετατροπές στους στην ατμόσφαιρα, 4. Στην αστική ατμοσφαιρική ρύπανση, 5. Στην Ατμοσφαιρική Χημεία 6. Στις ροές και βιογεωχημικούς κύκλους αερίων του θερμοκηπίου στον πλανήτη μας, Και 7. Στην επιρροή τους στο κλίμα και την μετεωρολογία της Ανατολικής Μεσογείου και στις ατμοσφαιρικές χημικές αντιδράσεις τους. 1
Οι ερευνητικές εκστρατείες του καθηγητή Σ. Ραψομανίκη και της ομάδας του έχουν λάβει χώρα σε όλο τον πλανήτη, από την Ανταρκτική Χερσόνησο μέχρι την Κιρούνα της Αρκτικής, την Τενερίφη και Μαδέϊρα του Ατλαντικού εως τις Σεϋχέλλες του Ινδικού, τις Ακτές της Δυτικής Ιρλανδίας, την Βαλτική και την Μαύρη Θάλασσα.
