3 James, of God and Lord Jesus Christ a servant, to the twelve tribes those in the Diaspora, Greetings. Consider it all joy, my brothers, whenever into various testings you-fall 1:1 1:2 Ἰάκωβος Θεοῦ καὶ Κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ δοῦλος ταῖς δώδεκα φυλαῖς ταῖς ἐν τῇ Διασπορᾷ χαίρειν. Πᾶσαν χαρὰν ἡγήσασθε, ἀδελφοί μου, ὅταν πειρασμοῖς περιπέσητε ποικίλοις,

4 Knowing that the proving of your faith works-out endurance. But let endurance have a complete work, that you-may-be complete and whole, lacking in nothing. 1:3 1:4 γινώσκοντες ὅτι τὸ δοκίμιον ὑμῶν τῆς πίστεως κατεργάζεται ὑπομονήν. ἡ δὲ ὑπομονὴ ἔργον τέλειον ἐχέτω, ἵνα ἦτε τέλειοι καὶ ὁλόκληροι, ἐν μηδενὶ λειπόμενοι.

5 But if anyone of you lacks wisdom, let-him-ask from God who gives to all simply and without demeaning, and it-will-be-given to him. But let-him-ask in faith, doubting nothing. For the doubting-one resembles sea surf being blown and tossed. 1:5 1:6 Εἰ δέ τις ὑμῶν λείπεται σοφίας, αἰτείτω παρὰ τοῦ διδόντος Θεοῦ πᾶσιν ἁπλῶς καὶ μὴ ὀνειδίζοντος, καὶ δοθήσεται αὐτῷ. αἰτείτω δὲ ἐν πίστει, μηδὲν διακρινόμενος ὁ γὰρ διακρινόμενος ἔοικεν κλύδωνι θαλάσσης ἀνεμιζομένῳ καὶ ῥιπιζομένῳ.

6 For let not that person suppose that he will-receive anything from the Lord, (being) a two-souled man, agitated in all his ways. 1:7 1:8 μὴ γὰρ οἰέσθω ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἐκεῖνος ὅτι λήμψεταί τι παρὰ τοῦ Κυρίου, ἀνὴρ δίψυχος, ἀκατάστατος ἐν πάσαις ταῖς ὁδοῖς αὐτοῦ.

7 But let-boast the lowly brother in his high-position, but the rich in his being-made-low, 1:9 1:10 because as a blossom of grass he will pass-away. Καυχάσθω δὲ ὁ ἀδελφὸς ὁ ταπεινὸς ἐν τῷ ὕψει αὐτοῦ, ὁ δὲ πλούσιος ἐν τῇ ταπεινώσει αὐτοῦ, ὅτι ὡς ἄνθος χόρτου παρελεύσεται.

8 For the sun springs-up with scorching-heat, and dries-out the grass, and its blossom falls-off, and the beauty of its face perishes Thus, also the rich in his proceedings will-fade-away. 1:11 ἀνέτειλεν γὰρ ὁ ἥλιος σὺν τῷ καύσωνι καὶ ἐξήρανεν τὸν χόρτον, καὶ τὸ ἄνθος αὐτοῦ ἐξέπεσεν καὶ ἡ εὐπρέπεια τοῦ προσώπου αὐτοῦ ἀπώλετο οὕτως καὶ ὁ πλούσιος ἐν ταῖς πορείαις αὐτοῦ μαρανθήσεται.

9 Blessed the man who endures testing, because when-proven 1:12 he-will-receive the crown of life, which He-has-promised to thosewho-love him. Let no-one when-tested say From God I-am-tested, for God is un-testable of wickedness, and he himself tests no-one! 1:13 Μακάριος ἀνὴρ ὃς ὑπομένει πειρασμόν, ὅτι δόκιμος γενόμενος λήμψεται τὸν στέφανον τῆς ζωῆς, ὃν ἐπηγγείλατο τοῖς ἀγαπῶσιν αὐτόν. Μηδεὶς πειραζόμενος λεγέτω ὅτι Ἀπὸ Θεοῦ πειράζομαι ὁ γὰρ Θεὸς ἀπείραστός ἐστιν κακῶν, πειράζει δὲ αὐτὸς οὐδένα.

10 1:14 But each is tested By his-own desire, dragging-off and baiting. 1:15 Then the desire conceiving, bears sin, and the sin reaching-completion, gives-birth-to death. ἕκαστος δὲ πειράζεται ὑπὸ τῆς ἰδίας ἐπιθυμίας ἐξελκόμενος καὶ δελεαζόμενος εἶτα ἡ ἐπιθυμία συλλαβοῦσα τίκτει ἁμαρτίαν, ἡ δὲ ἁμαρτία ἀποτελεσθεῖσα ἀποκύει θάνατον.

11 Be not deceived, my beloved brothers! Every good giving and complete gift from-above is coming-down from the Father of the lights, with whom is not a variation or a shadow of rotation. Willing-it, he-gave-birth-to us by (the) Word of truth, in order that we-would-be some first-fruits of his createdones. 1:16 1:17 1:18 Μὴ πλανᾶσθε, ἀδελφοί μου ἀγαπητοί. πᾶσα δόσις ἀγαθὴ καὶ πᾶν δώρημα τέλειον ἄνωθέν ἐστιν καταβαῖνον ἀπὸ τοῦ Πατρὸς τῶν φώτων, παρ ᾧ οὐκ ἔνι παραλλαγὴ ἢ τροπῆς ἀποσκίασμα. βουληθεὶς ἀπεκύησεν ἡμᾶς λόγῳ ἀληθείας, εἰς τὸ εἶναι ἡμᾶς ἀπαρχήν τινα τῶν αὐτοῦ κτισμάτων.

12 Know my beloved brothers! Let every person be quick to hearing, slow to speaking, slow to anger. For a man s anger God s righteousness (it) does-not work 1:19 1:20 Ἴστε, ἀδελφοί μου ἀγαπητοί. ἔστω δὲ πᾶς ἄνθρωπος ταχὺς εἰς τὸ ἀκοῦσαι, βραδὺς εἰς τὸ λαλῆσαι, βραδὺς εἰς ὀργήν ὀργὴ γὰρ ἀνδρὸς δικαιοσύνην Θεοῦ οὐκ ἐργάζεται.

13 Therefore, putting-off all filth and abundance of wickedness, in gentleness receive the implanted Word that is able to save your souls. 1:21 1:22 But become doers of (the) word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves. διὸ ἀποθέμενοι πᾶσαν ῥυπαρίαν καὶ περισσείαν κακίας ἐν πραΰτητι δέξασθε τὸν ἔμφυτον λόγον τὸν δυνάμενον σῶσαι τὰς ψυχὰς ὑμῶν. γίνεσθε δὲ ποιηταὶ λόγου, καὶ μὴ ἀκροαταὶ μόνον παραλογιζόμενοι ἑαυτούς.

14 1:23 For, if anyone is a hearer of (the) word and not a doer, this-one resembles a man carefully-observing the face of his existence in a mirror; he carefully-observes himself and goes-away and immediately forgets whatsort he-was. 1:24 ὅτι εἴ τις ἀκροατὴς λόγου ἐστὶν καὶ οὐ ποιητής, οὗτος ἔοικεν ἀνδρὶ κατανοοῦντι τὸ πρόσωπον τῆς γενέσεως αὐτοῦ ἐν ἐσόπτρῳ κατενόησεν γὰρ ἑαυτὸν καὶ ἀπελήλυθεν, καὶ εὐθέως ἐπελάθετο ὁποῖος ἦν.

15 But the one-bending-over into (the) complete Torah (the Torah) of freedom and continuing (there), 1:25 not a forgetful hearer becoming but a doer of work, this-one will-be blessed in his doing. ὁ δὲ παρακύψας εἰς νόμον τέλειον τὸν τῆς ἐλευθερίας καὶ παραμείνας, οὐκ ἀκροατὴς ἐπιλησμονῆς γενόμενος ἀλλὰ ποιητὴς ἔργου, οὗτος μακάριος ἐν τῇ ποιήσει αὐτοῦ ἔσται.

16 If someone thinks himself to be religious, not bridling his own tongue but deceiving his own heart, this-one s religion is useless. Religion clean and undefiled before the God and Father is this: To visit orphans and widows in their affliction, 1:26 1:27 to guard oneself unstained from the world. Εἴ τις δοκεῖ θρησκὸς εἶναι, μὴ χαλιναγωγῶν γλῶσσαν ἑαυτοῦ ἀλλὰ ἀπατῶν καρδίαν ἑαυτοῦ, τούτου μάταιος ἡ θρησκεία. θρησκεία καθαρὰ καὶ ἀμίαντος παρὰ τῷ Θεῷ καὶ Πατρὶ αὕτη ἐστίν, ἐπισκέπτεσθαι ὀρφανοὺς καὶ χήρας ἐν τῇ θλίψει αὐτῶν, ἄσπιλον ἑαυτὸν τηρεῖν ἀπὸ τοῦ κόσμου.
