SEVENTH SUNDAY OF MATTHEW Sunday, July 22nd, 2012 Sts. Raphael, Nicholas and Irene Greek Orthodox Church Rev. Fr. Barnabas Powell, Proistamenos Paul Bilson, Psaltis 3074 Bethelview Road Cumming GA 30040 (770) 781-5250 cell (770) 861-3544 www.stsrni.org We are an intentional Orthodox Christian Community for North Georgia!

WORSHIP Seventh Gospel/Tone - Plagal Second We are so very glad you have joined us today, and we pray you will be inspired and encouraged by your time with us. The Orthodox worship service is an ancient and timeless expression of how people have loved, served and worshipped God for many centuries, but it may be a bit of a different experience for you. Please feel free to use a service book or not and simply allow the words of the service to wash over you. The central act of our worship culminates in people receiving communion. This is a very special time for us all and we have some specific beliefs about our communion together. This is why we never impose this service on those who are not prepared or are not baptized Orthodox. This service may raise questions in your mind. Please feel free to ask Fr. Barnabas or Fr. Paul anything you wish after the service. At the end of the service EVERYONE is invited to come forward and receive a portion of the blessed bread from Fr. Barnabas. No one should leave church hungry! Know you are welcome and we are glad you are here. May God bless you and your family. Apolytikion in honor of Sts. Raphael, Nicholas & Irene Having contended on Lesvos for the sake of Christ God, you have sanctified the island since the discovery of your sacred relics, O blessed ones; wherefore we honor you, O Godbearing Raphael, together with Nicholas and virgin Irene, as our divine protectors and intercessors with the Lord. Prosforo: Is lovingly offered by the Prosforo Ministry Team Schedule for the Week Wednesday, July 25th - 6:30 p.m. Vespers followed by Ask Father Saturday, July 28th - 5 p.m. Great Vespers Confessions will be heard following Great Vespers by Fr. Paul Parish Council On Duty Today - Harald Hagen & Florence Lytle Welcoming Ministry - Florence Lytle Ushering Ministry - Parish Council ACOLYTES James Blane, Nathan Frazier, Spiros Kefalas, Dean Pryles, Nicholas Pryles, Mike Manos, Giovanni Ray, Tommy Roberts, Luke Sulyma, Mike Trainor, Connor Walters, Roney Walters, Thomas Miller and Christos Zourzoukis

TODAY WE REMEMBER Seventh Sunday of Matthew Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Plagal of the Second Tone: When the angelic powers appeared at Your grave, the soldiers guarding it feared and became as dead. And standing by the sepulcher was Mary who was seeking Your immaculate body. You devastated Hades, not afflicted by it. You went to meet the virgin, and granted eternal life. You resurrected from the dead. O Lord, glory to You. Seasonal Kontakion in the Second Tone: O Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the creator most constant: O despise not the voices of those who have sinned; but be quick, O good one, to come unto our aid, who in faith cry unto thee: Hasten to intercession and speed thou to make supplication, O thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee. Resurrectional Kontakion in the Plagal of the Second Tone: When the Life-bestower Christ God had resurrected * with His vivifying hand, from the dismal caverns, * all the dead from eternity, He freely bestowed * resurrection on the substance of our mortal humanity. * For He is the Savior of all, resurrection and life, and the God of all things. We Also Remember Mary Magdalene, The Holy Myrrh-bearer and Equal to the Apostles Markella, the Virgin-martyr of Chios Please pray for those faithful who are currently in need of our most fervent intercessions: Andrew, Archie, Bill, Bill, Carrie, Demetra, Dina, Donna, Efthymios, Elaine, Elizabeth, Christina, Gus, Heidi, Igli, James, Jerry, Joe, John, Maria, Michael, Nomiki, Oni, Paul, Sarah, Taki, Tara and Violeta Remember Our Military Connor Walters (son of Diane & Tim Walters, grandson of Jimmy & Pat Roney) is in basic training at the Marine Corps Base in Paris Island, SC. Epistle Reading The Reading is from St. Paul s Letter to the Romans 15:1-7 The Reading is from St. Paul's Second Letter to Timothy 3:10-15 BRETHREN, we who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves; let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to edify him. For Christ did not please himself; but, as it is written, "The reproaches of those who reproached thee fell on me." For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope. May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of your Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome one another, therefore, as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.

Gospel Reading The Reading is from Matthew 9:27-35 At that time, as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, "Have mercy on us, Son of David." When he entered the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They said to him, "Yes, Lord." Then he touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith be it done to you." And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly charged them, "See that no one knows it." But they went away and spread his fame through all that district. As they were going away, behold, a dumb demoniac was brought to him. And when the demon had been cast out, the dumb man spoke; and the crowds marveled, saying, "Never was anything like this seen in Israel." But the Pharisees said, "He casts out demons by the prince of demons." And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people.

ANNOUNCEMENTS Sunday, July 22nd Recognition of Paul Bilson For the past 15 years, Paul Bilson has served Sts. RNI as our Psalti. He has helped us make our worship both beautiful and a worthy offering to the Lord. During Holy Week, Paul came to me and asked if he could begin diminishing his duties so he could attend worship with his wife and children and serve his family better. Today is Paul s last Sunday as our chanter will be July 22nd. We would very much like to express our love, admiration, and gratitude to Paul for his many years of faithful and fruitful service here at our parish. God bless you, Paul, and thank you so very much. You will be missed. Father Barnabas On behalf of our Parish Council and our entire community Seeking Additional Community Input The Growth and Development Ministry is looking for your input. Displayed in the Narthex is latest draft of the Sts RNI Complex Master Plan. This is a 5-10 year plan with the first phase being the Multipurpose Facility. This is based upon the survey results reviewed at the last general assembly. The plan has a narrative attached to it explaining the layout and some of the changes already discussed. Please look it over and if you have any additional comments or suggestions, please email them to Paul Ray at pcsec@stsrni.org, or you may drop off written comments at the church office. The plan will remain displayed in the Narthex through the end of August. This is an exciting time for our community and our future. We need everyone's involvement to be successful.
