Introduction The Elefsina Municipality and the West Attika Region are the organizers of the Sta ichni tis Ieras Odou Elefsina Half Marathon. The 2 nd edition of this running event will be held on Saturday 10 th, September 2016. The organizers have decided to measure the course for the upcoming 2 nd edition of the event. The race course measurement was requested by the vice Major Gavriil KAMBANIS. Then it was approved by the International Measurement Administrator, Jean-Francois DELASALLE. Indeed, the measurement of the Half Marathon race course, 2016 edition, took place on 28 th July 2016. This mission was accomplished according to current IAAF and A.I.M.S. regulations and was held under regularly hot weather conditions during the night to avoid the day traffic of the cities Athens and Egaleo, as well as the heavy traffic conditions on the national road which connects Athens and Korinth. The measurement was implemented by me, Georgios DOUSSIS, Measurer IAAF/AIMS, Grade B. For this activity I had the support and effective cooperation of Mr. A. Michas, Mr. G. Kouskoutis,, Mr. A. Peppas and Mr. I. Doussis, who had a good knowledge of the entire course. The race course has the approval of the local Municipality as the Traffic Police. The start point of the Half Marathon race is located at Athens center, on the pebble path of Ermou str., at the area named Gazi. The finish point is at Elefsina city, located at Nikolaidou str. pebble path, in front of the archaeological site (see photos). The course is a point to point type. It goes in the traces of the ancient route Iera Odos ( Sta ichni tis Ieras Odou ), which connected Athens with Elefsina. The course is mainly downhill, though it includes downhill, flat and uphill parts. Along the whole course only a lane on the right side of the traffic row is approved by the traffic police and dedicated to runners. The race course is measured within the edges of this right lane along the entire course, as the organizers proposed. The altitude difference (drop) for the Half Marathon race is neg. 2.23m/km, altitude of start is 53m and this of finish is 6m. The proposed circuit does not meet the IAAF requirements for a drop of <1m/km (Rule 260, 28c). The start and the finish point of the marathon course show a 17077m difference between them in a straight line and the separation ratio is 80.94%, compared to the total distance of the Half Marathon race. The proposed circuit does not meet the IAAF requirements for separation of <50% of the overall distance (Rule 260, 28b). The Sta ichni tis Ieras Odou Half Marathon race course, 2016 edition, is approved by the Administrator under the International Performance Measurement No. GRE/2016/78/JFD1007/B dated September 10, 2016. Without modification, the validity of this measurement is 5 years.

Measurement Attestation The undersigned Georgios DOUSSIS measurer IAAF/AIMS Grade-B certify that on request of Mr. Gavriil KAMBANIS, Vice Major of Elefsina Municipality, with the collaboration of Mr. A. MICHAS, Mr. G. KOUSKOUTIS, Mr. A. PEPPAS and Mr. I. DOUSSIS, implemented the measurement of the Half Marathon race course named Sta ichni tis Ieras Odou, according to IAAF/AIMS rules, using my own bicycle with a 6-digit Jones Counter on it. The race will be held on September, 10 th 2016. This is the 2 nd edition of this running event. The race course was not officially measured for its first edition 2015. The weather conditions were regularly hot during the measurement procedure, which was made during the night to avoid the day traffic of the cities Athens and Egaleo, as well as the heavy traffic conditions on the national road which connects Athens and Korinth. The start point of the Half Marathon race is located at Athens center, on the pebble path of Ermou str. at the area called Gazi (see photos). The finish point is at Elefsina city, located at Nikolaidou str. pebble path, in front of the archaeological site (see photos). The course is a point to point type. It goes in the traces of the ancient route Iera Odos ( Sta ichni tis Ieras Odou ), which connected Athens to Elefsina. The course is mainly downhill, thought it includes downhill, flat and uphill parts. Its first four kilometers are lightly downhill to flat, the next four kilometers are uphill. From km 8 to km 13 the course is downhill. The rest of the course to the finish in Elefsina is flat. The race course has the approval of the local municipalities as the Traffic Police. A traffic warranty is given to organizers by the local Traffic Police for the race day that the athletes should run only on the right lane of the traffic row. The organizers should take care of the participants safety, by using cones for almost the entire race course according to the guidelines as shown on this report (see photos & limitations). During the measurement I followed the shortest possible way according to the rules by following the above mentioned limitation made by the traffic police and proposed to me by the organizers. The running surface is 100% asphalt of acceptable quality. A 450m straight way at Marina Kallitheas was ready to use as calibration course. It was measured by me four years ago for another measurement (see map & photos). Since then I have calibrated and checked there several times. A 50m-steel tape was used for the calibration at that time. The calibration course is located 4.9 kilometers away from the start point Ermou str. After the calibration I measured the proposed course from the Start to the Finish point. After the post calibration and the calculations (see table B) the course length was found 20943.02m.
According to organizers proposal I measured a new course part as an extension of the already measured course (see details on Statements). The final length of the race course is now officially measured 21097.52m. A while later I undertook a last ride over the whole course from Athens to Elefsina. including the modifications of the course according to the Final Table (see below) for the adjustment of the intermediate points, which had set every 1 kilometer according to organizers wish. During this ride on the way to Elefsina (after km 9) I had accidentally a tyre damage and I had to interrupt the ride. Me and the assisting measurement team decided to repeat this second ride over the entire race course for the adjustment of the intermediate points the next night 29.07.2016. After a new calibration (see below), I used the new working constant to ride from Start to Finish. On the way to km 9 I could verify the correctness of the previous ride by arriving exactly on the signed km marks. The drop for the half marathon is neg 2.23m/km. Start has an altitude of 53m, the finish point 6m. The race course does not meet the IAAF/AIMS requirements. The separation is 80.94%. Start is 17077m away from Finish in a straight line. The race course does not meet the IAAF/AIMS requirements. This measurement will be valid for 5 (five) years (2016-2020). Any modification on the measured course needs a re-measurement. Calculation of the length of the race course After the Post Calibration and the calculations the distance of the entire course proposed by the organizers was found -154.48m (1818 counts) shorter than it should be. Then I measured an additional part proposed by the organizers, which is located at Elefsina (Paralia Elefsinas) and it is an extension of the already measured course until the finish line. Concerning my calculations, a) I abstracted the final stage of the already measured course, length 677.30m (see course parts 13 & 14 on Table B) b) I added the new course part, length 863.39m (see course parts 13 & 14 on Table C) The entire course was found 21129.13m (see Table C), 31.63m longer than the desired HM distance. c) According to organizers wish I removed the finish line for 31.61m (372 counts) back (see Table C), so the entire course length is now officially measured 21097.52m long.
