ΧΡΗΜΑΤΙΣΤΗΡΙΑΚΗ ΑΝΑΣΚΟΠΗΣΗ ΓΙΑ ΤΟ ΙΟΥΝΙΟ 2003 Τον Ιούνιο παρατηρήθηκε σχετική µείωση του Γενικού είκτη Τιµών που συνοδεύτηκε µε µείωση στον όγκο συναλλαγών σε σχέση µε το µήνα Μάιο. Οι εξελίξεις για τον µήνα αυτό αναλύονται πιο κάτω: Τιµές: Την τελευταία µέρα του µήνα ο Γενικός είκτης Τιµών (ΧΑΚ) ανήλθε στις 84,98 µονάδες, ενώ το ανώτατο σηµείο στο οποίο έφτασε ο είκτης καθ όλη τη διάρκεια του µήνα ήταν 84,96 µονάδες. Σε κλαδικό επίπεδο, οι είκτες για το µήνα αυτό έκλεισαν ως εξής: ο τοµέας των Τραπεζών µε 101,39 µονάδες, ο τοµέας των Εγκεκριµένων Επενδυτικών Εταιρειών µε 72,97 µονάδες, ο τοµέας των Ασφαλιστικών εταιρειών µε 14,76 µονάδες, ο Βιοµηχανικός τοµέας µε 55,02 µονάδες, ο Τουριστικός τοµέας µε 88,05 µονάδες, ο Εµπορικός τοµέας µε 17,78 µονάδες, ο τοµέας Οικοδοµήσιµων Υλών µε 66,25 µονάδες, ο τοµέας Πληροφορικής µε 2,72 µονάδες, ο τοµέας Χρηµατοοικονοµικών Υπηρεσιών µε 13,32 µονάδες, ο τοµέας Ιχθυοπαραγωγής & Εµπορίας Ψαριών µε 11,45 µονάδες, ο τοµέας των Ξενοδοχείων µε 40,94 µονάδες, ο τοµέας των Άλλων Εταιρειών µε 77,48 µονάδες, ο δείκτης FTSE/CySE 20 µε 348,97 µονάδες, και ο δείκτης FTSE Med100 µε 5324,17 µονάδες. Η χρηµατιστηριακή αξία της αγοράς (µετοχές εξαιρουµένων των Επενδυτικών οργανισµών) ανήλθε σε 2.34δις. από 2.36δις. του προηγούµενου µήνα σηµειώνοντας µείωση της τάξης του 1,02%. Με βάση τα στοιχεία του µήνα ο Τραπεζικός τοµέας αποτελεί το 47,71% της συνολικής χρηµατιστηριακής αξίας (µετοχές), και ο τοµέας των Άλλων Εταιρειών 13,89%. Επίσης, ο τοµέας των Βιοµηχανικών Εταιρειών κατέχει ποσοστό 9,29% της ολικής χρηµατιστηριακής αξίας, ο τοµέας των Ξενοδοχείων το 8,15%, ο τοµέας Οικοδοµήσιµων Υλών το 7,36%, ο τοµέας Χρηµατοοικονοµικών Υπηρεσιών το 4,19%, ο τοµέας Εµπορικών Εταιρειών το 4,37%, ο τοµέας Τουριστικών Εταιρειών το 2,50%, ο τοµέας Ασφαλιστικών Οργανισµών το 1,18%, ο τοµέας Πληροφορικής το 1,01%, και ο τοµέας Ιχθυοπαραγωγής & Εµπορίας Ψαριών µε 0,31%. Επιπρόσθετα η χρηµατιστηριακή αξία της αγοράς συµπεριλαµβανοµένων των Επενδυτικών Οργανισµών, των ικαιωµάτων αγοράς µετοχών, των Οµολογιακών αξιών και των Κυβερνητικών χρεογράφων έφθασε στα 4.52 δις. από 4.45 δις. του προηγούµενου µήνα, σηµειώνοντας αύξηση της τάξης του 1,50%. Συναλλαγές: Ο συνολικός όγκος συναλλαγών του µήνα έφθασε περίπου στα 8,0 εκ. µε το µέσο ηµερήσιο όγκο συναλλαγών να βρίσκεται στις 402 χιλιάδες. Το µεγαλύτερο µέρος του συνολικού όγκου συναλλαγών του µήνα που πέρασε, συγκεντρώθηκε στον τοµέα των Τραπεζών µε ποσοστό 38,46% και το µικρότερο στον τοµέα Κυβερνητικών Χρεογράφων µε ποσοστό 0,13%. Οι τίτλοι στους οποίους επικεντρώθηκε το µεγαλύτερο ποσοστό του µηνιαίου όγκου συναλλαγών ήταν στις µετοχές της «Τράπεζας Κύπρου Λτδ» και της «Λαϊκής Τράπεζας Λτδ», µε ποσοστό 18,76% και 13,25% αντίστοιχα. Νέα Εισηγµένων Εταιρειών / Αποφάσεις Συµβουλίου για Εισηγµένες Εταιρείες Από τις 2 Ιουνίου µέχρι τις 23 Ιουνίου διαπραγµατεύθηκαν 15.458.986 ικαιώµατα Προτίµησης της εταιρείας «Claridge Investment Ltd», µε τιµή εξάσκησης 0.25 για κάθε ικαίωµα Προτίµησης, και την µετατροπή τους σε 1 πλήρως πληρωθείσα µετοχή ονοµαστικής αξίας 0.20. Από τις 4 Ιουνίου µέχρι τις 25 Ιουνίου διαπραγµατεύθηκαν 5.770.089 ικαιώµατα Προτίµησης της εταιρείας Amathus Navigation Co Ltd µε τιµή εξάσκησης 0.50 και ηµεροµηνία εξάσκησης 30 Ιουνίου 2003, και την µετατροπή τους σε µια µετοχή της εταιρείας ονοµαστικής αξίας 0.20 το καθένα. Στις 5 Ιουνίου άρχισε η διαπραγµάτευση 4,25% Κρατικών Ονοµαστικών ΧΑΚ CSE 3

Χρεογράφων Αναπτύξεως: σειρά 2003 - Λήξης 2008 (3 η τµηµατική έκδοση) συνολικής αξίας 39.040.000 που προέκυψαν από δηµοπρασία η οποία διεξήχθη στις 21 Μαΐου 2003. Στις 6 Ιουνίου αναστάληκε η διαπραγµάτευση της εταιρείας «New Marathon Tours Ltd», η οποία προέκυψε από τη µη έκδοση και αποστολή εκ µέρους της εισηγµένης εταιρείας «New Marathon Tours Ltd», της ετήσιας έκθεσης και των ετήσιων λογαριασµών της εταιρείας για το έτος που έληξε στις 31 εκεµβρίου 2002. Από τις 9 Ιουνίου µέχρι τις 7 Ιουλίου διαπραγµατεύθηκαν 1.833.642 ικαιώµατα Προτίµησης της εταιρείας «Palinex Trading Ltd» µε τιµή εξάσκησης 0.30 και ηµεροµηνία εξάσκησης 10 Ιουλίου 2003, και την µετατροπή τους σε µια µετοχή της εταιρείας ονοµαστικής αξίας 0.10 το καθένα. Στις 12 Ιουνίου άρχισε η διαπραγµάτευση 6.807.388 Οµολόγων 2005/2007 ονοµαστικής αξίας ΛΚ1.00 της εταιρείας «F.W.Woolworth & Co (Cyprus) Ltd» τα οποία παραχωρήθηκαν στους µετόχους της εταιρείας που ήταν εγγεγραµµένοι στο µητρώο µελών της εταιρείας στις 31 Μαρτίου 2003, στους κατόχους οµολόγων της έκδοσης ηµεροµηνίας 7 εκεµβρίου 1997 που επέδειξαν ενδιαφέρον για επανεπένδυση, καθώς και σε άλλους επενδυτές, και 10.211.157 ικαιώµατα Αγοράς Μετοχών της εν λόγω εταιρείας τα οποία παραχωρήθηκαν σε αναλογία 3 ΑΜ για κάθε 3 οµόλογα που αποκτήθηκαν. Από τις 13 Ιουνίου µέχρι τις 4 Ιουλίου αναστάληκε η διαπραγµάτευση των αξιών της Τράπεζα Κύπρου Λτδ µε σκοπό την διευκόλυνση της διαδικασία ανάληψης του µητρώου και της µετάβαση στο νέο σύστηµα. Κατά την περίοδο 13 Ιουνίου 2003 µε 4 Ιουλίου 2003 οι αξίες της Τράπεζας Κύπρου διαπραγµατεύονταν κανονικά στο Χρηµατιστήριο Αθηνών αλλά όµως οι µεταφορές αξιών από το Σύστηµα Αϋλων Τίτλων του Κεντρικού Αποθετηρίου Αξιών Αθηνών (Σ.Α.Τ) στο Μετοχολόγιο Κύπρου και αντίθετα δεν πραγµατοποιήθηκαν κατά την περίοδο αυτή. Στις 23 Ιουνίου 2003 καταχωρήθηκαν στο Κεντρικό Μητρώο και Κεντρικό Αποθετήριο οι τίτλοι του εισηγµένου εκδότη «Chris Cash & Carry Ltd» του οποίου το µητρώο από την πιο πάνω ηµεροµηνία αναλήφθηκε από το Χρηµατιστήριο Αξιών Κύπρου. Στις 25 Ιουνίου µετά από απόφαση του Συµβουλίου του Χρηµατιστηρίου Αξιών Κύπρου η εταιρεία «Louis Cruise Lines Ltd» µετονοµάστηκε σε «Louis Ltd». Στις 25 Ιουνίου άρχισε η διαπραγµάτευση 3,75% Κρατικών Ονοµαστικών Χρεογράφων Αναπτύξεως: Τέταρτη σειρά 2003, Λήξης 2005 συνολικής αξίας 10.000.000 που προέκυψαν από δηµοπρασία η οποία διεξήχθη στις 4 Ιουνίου 2003. Στις 25 Ιουνίου άρχισε η διαπραγµάτευση 4,25% Κρατικών Ονοµαστικών Χρεογράφων Αναπτύξεως: σειρά 2003 - Λήξης 2008 (4 η τµηµατική έκδοση) συνολικής αξίας 26.304.400 που προέκυψαν από δηµοπρασία η οποία διεξήχθη στις 4 Ιουνίου 2003. Από τις 30 Ιουνίου µέχρι τις 18 Ιουλίου αναστάληκε η διαπραγµάτευση των αξιών των ακόλουθων εκδοτών «Leptos Calypso Hotels Ltd» και «Λαϊκή Επενδυτική Λτδ» µε σκοπό τη διευκόλυνση της διαδικασίας ανάληψης των µητρώων και της µετάβασης στο νέο σύστηµα. Αποφάσεις Συµβουλίου για µη Εισηγµένες Εταιρείες Στις 19 Ιουνίου το Συµβούλιο του Χρηµατιστηρίου Αξιών Κύπρου αφού µελέτησε τη θέση της Επιτροπής Κεφαλαιαγοράς αναφορικά µε την αίτηση της εταιρείας «UTL United Technologies Ltd» για εισαγωγή των τίτλων της στο ΧΑΚ αποφάσισε την απόρριψη της αίτησης για εισαγωγή της προαναφερθείσας εταιρείας. Εξελίξεις/ ραστηριότητες ΧΑΚ Από τις 2 µέχρι τις 4 Ιουνίου το Χρηµατιστήριο Αξιών Κύπρου σε συνεργασία µε το Χρηµατιστηριακό Κέντρο Θεσσαλονίκης (ΧΚΘ) πραγµατοποίησε ΧΑΚ CSE 4

σεµινάριο στα γραφεία του ΧΑΚ µέσα στα πλαίσια του προγράµµατος που τιτλοφορείται «The role of Capital Markets, of the Greek Capital Market and EAGAK in the Economic Development of Emerging Economies». Το Σεµινάριο αυτό απευθυνόταν στο προσωπικό του ΧΑΚ και της Επιτροπής Κεφαλαιαγοράς και στα Μέλη και στις εισηγµένες εταιρείες του ΧΑΚ. Στο σεµινάριο αυτό µεταξύ άλλων παρουσιάστηκαν οι πρόσφατες εξελίξεις σε σχέση µε τις Κοινοτικές Οδηγίες για τα χρηµατιστηριακά θέµατα, τα κύρια χαρακτηριστικά των χρηµατιστηριακών αγορών της Ελλάδας (Κύρια, Παράλληλη, ΝΕΧΑ, ΕΑΓΑΚ), ενδιαφέροντα θέµατα της αγοράς παραγώγων στην Ελλάδα, θέµατα Εταιρικής ιακυβέρνησης, θέµατα εµπλουτισµένης και έγκαιρης γνωστοποίησης πληροφοριών από εισηγµένες εταιρείες, κ.α.. Οι συµµετέχοντες στο Σεµινάριο, είχαν την ευκαιρία να διευρύνουν τις γνώσεις τους αποκοµίζοντας σχετικές εµπειρίες από την Ελλαδική αγορά αλλά και από τις άλλες Ευρωπαϊκές χρηµατιστηριακές αγορές και να τις επικαιροποιήσουν µε τις νέες εξελίξεις που παρουσιάζονται στο ευρύτερο χρηµατιστηριακό περιβάλλον, σε διάφορα χρηµατιστηριακά θέµατα. Επίσης, µέσα στα πλαίσια της συνεργασίας του ΧΑΚ µε το ΧΚΘ, πραγµατοποιήθηκε στις 3 Ιουνίου 2003 και ώρα 6:00µ.µ., στο ξενοδοχείο Hilton στη Λευκωσία, ηµερίδα µε τίτλο «The Capital Market as a Leverage of Economic Growth and Development: the Greek Experience». Η ηµερίδα διοργανώθηκε από κοινού από το Χρηµατιστηριακό Κέντρο Θεσσαλονίκης (ΧΚΘ) και το Υπουργείο Εξωτερικών της Ελλάδας, µε την υποστήριξη του Χρηµατιστηρίου Αξιών Κύπρου. Σ αυτήν απεύθυναν οµιλίες/χαιρετισµούς, ο Πρόεδρος του ΧΑΚ, ο Γενικός ιευθυντής του ΧΚΘ και αξιωµατούχος της Ελληνικής Πρεσβείας στην Κύπρο για θέµατα οικονοµικών σχέσεων. Από τις 9 µέχρι τις 11 Ιουνίου µέσα στα πλαίσια των ευρύτερων συνεργασιών του ΧΑΚ και του στρατηγικού προγραµµατισµού του, κλιµάκιο του Συµβουλίου και υπηρεσιακά στελέχη του ΧΑΚ επισκέφθηκαν το Χρηµατιστήριο του ουβλίνου στην Ιρλανδία, για διερεύνηση συνεργασίας µεταξύ των δύο Χρηµατιστηρίων, και ειδικότερα για να αξιοποιηθούν οι εµπειρίες και η τεχνογνωσία του Χρηµατιστηρίου αυτού σε λειτουργικά και αναπτυξιακά προγράµµατα, αντίστοιχα των οποίων προωθούνται την περίοδο αυτή και στο ΧΑΚ. Στις 19 Ιουνίου το Χρηµατιστήριο Αξιών Κύπρου, το Χρηµατιστήριο Αθηνών και το Χρηµατιστήριο του Τελ-Αβίβ, σε συνεργασία µε τον Οργανισµό Financial Times International Ltd (FTSE) προχώρησαν στην έναρξη λειτουργίας - υπολογισµού του είκτη FTSE / Med 100 Index. Κατά την ηµεροµηνία αυτή, διεξήχθη από κοινού δηµοσιογραφική διάσκεψη στη Λευκωσία για την επίσηµη έναρξη λειτουργίας του δείκτη, κατά την οποία παρουσιάστηκε η σύνθεση του δείκτη, οι αναλυτικοί και αντικειµενικοί Κανόνες (ground rules) που καθορίστηκαν, καθώς επίσης οι στόχοι των εµπλεκοµένων Χρηµατιστηρίων που τίθενται µε τη δηµιουργία του σχετικού δείκτη. Ο δείκτης FTSE / Med 100 Index υπολογίζεται σε πραγµατικό χρόνο (real time) από τις 19 Ιουνίου 2003 σε καθηµερινή βάση από το διεθνή Οργανισµό FTSE και µεταξύ άλλων θα είναι δυνατό να χρησιµοποιηθεί από τα τρία Χρηµατιστήρια, για την εµπορία παράγωγων προϊόντων έναντι του είκτη. Ο δείκτης αποτελείται από 100 εταιρείες εισηγµένες στα τρία Χρηµατιστήρια, ορισµένες εκ των οποίων είναι ταυτόχρονα εισηγµένες στις Ηνωµένες Πολιτείες Αµερικής και άλλες Ευρωπαϊκές αγορές. Η συνολική χρηµατιστηριακή αξία που αντιστοιχεί στις µετοχές των εταιρειών που θα συνθέτουν το είκτη, υπολογίζεται γύρω στα Euro 92 δισεκατοµµύρια. Στις 30 Ιουνίου το Χρηµατιστήριο Αξιών Κύπρου διοργάνωσε στα γραφεία του Οργανισµού, παρουσίαση που απευθυνόταν στα Μέλη του ΧΑΚ, στις εισηγµένες εταιρείες και στις εταιρείες πώλησης χρηµατιστηριακής πληροφόρησης (data vendors), αναφορικά µε δύο αναπτυξιακά έργα του. Συγκεκριµένα µετά από σχετικό ΧΑΚ CSE 5

εισαγωγικό χαιρετισµό από τον Πρόεδρο του ΧΑΚ κ. Άκη Κλεάνθους, υπηρεσιακά στελέχη του ΧΑΚ παρουσίασαν στους παρευρεθέντες τον περιφερειακό είκτη FTSE Med 100 του οποίου η επίσηµη έναρξη λειτουργίας έγινε πρόσφατα µε διάσκεψη Τύπου (19 Ιουνίου, 2003), ως επίσης και την υπηρεσία που θα παρέχεται από τις επόµενες ηµέρες από το ΧΑΚ και θα αφορά τη διαδικασία ηλεκτρονικής ενηµέρωσης των επενδυτών µέσω του διαδικτύου, για τις αξίες που αυτοί κατέχουν στο Κεντρικό Μητρώο. REVIEW OF DEVELOPMENTS IN JUNE 2003 During June there was a decrease in the General Price Index and a particular decrease in the value of shares traded compared to May. The various figures and statistics are analysed below: Prices: On the last day of the month the General Price Index was 84,98 points. It is worth to mention, however, that the highest level the index reached for the month was 84,96 points. On a sectoral level, subindices reached the following points: Banking sector 101,39, Approval Investment companies sector 72,97, and Insurance companies sector 14,76, Manufacturing sector 55,02, Tourism sector 88,05, Trading sector 17,78 Building Materials and Construction sector 66,25 Information Technology 2,72, Financial Services 14,86, Fish Culture 13,32, Hotels with 40,94, the Other Companies sector with 77,48 the FTSE/CySE 20 with 348,97 and finally the FTSE Med 100 5.324,17 points. Market Capitalisation: The total market capitalisation (shares) reached 2.34 billion from 2.36 billion the previous month registering a decrease of 1,02%. According to this month results the Banking sector accounted for 47,71% of the total market capitalisation, the Other Companies sector with 13,89%, the Manufacturing sector with 9,29%, the Hotels sector with 8,15%, the Building and Materials and Construction sector with 7,36%, the Financial Services sector with 4,19%, the Trading sector with 4,37%, the Tourism sector with 2,50%. The Information Technology sector with 1,01%, the Insurance sector with 1,18%, and the Fish Culture sector with 0,31% respectively, of the total market capitalisation. Moreover the total market capitalisation including the Approved Investment Funds, the Warrants the Corporate and Government bonds reached 4.52 billion compared to 4.45 billion the previous month registering an increase of 1,50%. Transactions: The total value of transactions during the month in review reached 8,0 million with an average of 402 thousands per trading session. The Banks Sector contributed 38,46% of the total value traded, which was the highest, whereas the Government Bonds sector had the lowest contribution with 0.13%. Investors primarily focused their interest on the shares of Bank of Cyprus Ltd and Cyprus Popular Bank Ltd with 18,76% and 13,25% respectively. Listed Companies News / Council s decisions about listed Companies From the 2 nd until the 23 rd of June 15,458,986 nil-paid rights traded of the company Claridge Investment Ltd with an exercise price of 0.25 each. The rights are exercisable into fully paid shares with a nominal value of 0.20. From the 4 th of June until 25 th of June 5,770,089 nil-paid rights traded, of the company Amathus Navigation Co Ltd with an exercise price of 0.50. The rights are exercisable into shares with a nominal value of 0.20 each on June 30, 2003. On the 5 th of June 4,25% Government Bonds 3 rd issue series (2003-2008) equalling of 39,040,000 (The titles have resulted from an auction, which was held on May 21 st, 2003), started trading. On the 6 th of June the securities of the company New Marathon Tours Ltd, suspended trading because the company had failed to issue and send to the CSE authorities in time its Annual Report and financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2002. From the 9 th of June until the 7 th of July 1,833,642 nil-paid rights traded, of the company Palinex Trading Ltd. The exercise price of the rights is 0.30 each and they are exercisable on July 10, 2003. Each right is exercisable into one share of Palinex Trading Ltd with a nominal value of 0.10 each. On the 12 th of June 6,807,388 bonds 2005/2007 with a nominal value of CYP1.00 of F.W. Woolworth & Co (Cyprus) Ltd, ΧΑΚ CSE 7

started trading. The bonds were granted to those shareholders of the company who were registered in the share register as at March 31, 2003, to holders of bonds from the issue of December 7, 1997, and other investors. Moreover, the CSE has accepted the listing of 10,211,157 warrants of the same company, which were granted to bond holders on the basis of three warrants for every three bonds acquired. The warrants have the same exercise terms as the warrants that are already listed on the CSE, i.e. an exercise price of CYP0.30 each and an exercise period of March 1-30, 2007. From the 13 th of June until the 4 th of July the titles of the company Bank of Cyprus Ltd suspended trading in order to in order to facilitate the process and ensure that the takeover of the share Register. In the above period the securities of Bank of Cyprus continued trading on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), but transfers from the Dematerialised Titles System of the ASE Central Depository to the Cyprus Share Register and vice versa were suspended. On the 12 th of June 6,807,388 bonds 2005/2007 with a nominal value of CYP1.00 of F.W. Woolworth & Co (Cyprus) Ltd, started trading. The bonds were granted to those shareholders of the company who were registered in the share register as at March 31, 2003, to holders of bonds from the issue of December 7, 1997, and other investors. On the 25 th of June 4,25% Registered Development Stock, series 2003, expiring 2008 (4 th issue) equalling of 26.304.400 (derived from an auction that took place on June 4, 20003), started trading. From the 30 th of June until the 18 th of July the titles of the companies Leptos Calypso Hotels Ltd and Laiki Investment Ltd suspended trading to ensure the takeover of the share registers and the transition to the new system of the CSE Central Share Register and Central Depository. Council s decisions about non listed Companies On the 19 th of June the CSE Council examined the position of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) concerning the application by UTL United Technologies Ltd to list on the CSE, and announced that the company's listing application cannot be accepted and is hereby rejected. CSE Events From the 2 nd until the 4 th of June the Cyprus Stock Exchange in association with the Thessaloniki Stock Market Centre presented a seminar series at the CSE offices in Nicosia within the framework of the programme entitled "The role of Capital Markets, of the Greek Capital Market and EAGAK in the Economic Development of Emerging Economies". The seminar addressed CSE and SEC staff, CSE members and listed companies. Among other things, the seminar presented the recent developments as regards EU directives for the stock market, the man characteristics of Greece's stock markets (Main, Parallel, NEHA, EAGAK), interesting topics concerning the Greek derivatives market, corporate governance issues, issues relating to the timely notification of information to listed companies, etc. The participants of the seminar had the opportunity to expand their knowledge by ΧΑΚ CSE 8

drawing on the Greek experience and the experience on other European markets, and to bring their knowledge of stock market issues up to date. Also within the framework of cooperation between the CSE and the Thessaloniki Centre, a seminar was held at the Hilton Hotel on June 3, 2003 at 6pm with the title "The Capital Market as a Leverage of Economic Growth and Development: the Greek Experience". The seminar was organised jointly by the Thessaloniki Centre and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the support of the CSE. The seminar was addressed by the chairman of the CSE, the general manager of the Thessaloniki Centre and an official from the Greek Embassy in Cyprus. From the 9 th until the 11 th of June representatives of the CSE Council visited the Dublin Stock Exchange, within the framework of developing links with other stock markets and as part of its strategic planning, to encourage cooperation between the two stock exchanges and make the most of the experience and know how of the Irish stock market in matters relating to operating and development programmes. On the 19 th of June the Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE), the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE) and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange in association with Financial Times International Ltd launched the operation-calculation of the FTSE Med 100 index. On the 19 th of June, the three stock exchanges held a joint press conference in Nicosia to present the composition and ground rules of the index as well as the targets they hope to achieve through this cooperation. The FTSE Med 100 Index will be calculated in real time daily by FTSE as of June 19, 2003. Among other things, it will be used for the trading of index-linked derivative products. The index will comprise of 100 stocks from the three stock exchanges, some of which are already dual listed in the USA and European stock exchanges. The total capitalisation of the stocks that joined the index is estimated at US$50bn. On the 30 th of June the Cyprus Stock Exchange has organized at its offices a presentation for the members of the CSE, listed companies and data vendors concerning two development projects. Specifically after the introductory speech from the CSE chairman Mr. Akis Kleanthous, officials of the CSE have presented the FTSE MED 100 Index, that has been recently officially launched with a press conference (June 19, 2003), and also the new service that will be available a few days from now regarding the electronic notification of investors through the internet about their shares that are held by the Central Registry.
