St. Euphemia High School Newsletter February 2008 Mission Statement: That within a dynamic Orthodox, Christian framework, a student may strive to achieve academic excellence, a yearning for learning and social responsibility. Strive for Excellence It is our pleasure to welcome all families and staff for the commencement of the 2008 school year. We hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas and holiday. Students were welcomed at the first assembly for the year and they all looked rested and eager for the start to the academic year. We welcome all our new staff members who bring with them a wide knowledge, experience and a variety of interests and talents. Ms Matthews and Ms Strakosch are joining the Science Department, Mr Vith the TAS Department, Ms Salachoris the PD/H/PE Department and Mr Pace, the English Department. A special welcome is extended to all the year seven families and students as well as those of our new enrolments. Year seven arrived early and eager to begin a new phase in their schooling! 2008 will be another productive year with camps, excursions and various sporting events that will enhance student learning and development beyond the classroom. FORTHCOMING EVENTS CHURCH ATTENDANCE Sunday, 3 February: Years 10-12 at 9.30am Sunday, 10 February: Years 7-9 at 9.30am PEER SUPPORT CAMP On Monday, February 11, years seven and eleven students will be attending the peer support camp at Stanwell Tops Conference Centre. They will be returning to school on Wednesday, 13 February. SWIMMING CARNIVAL The annual swimming carnival will take place on Thursday, 28 February at Roselands Aquatic Centre. All parents and guardians are invited to attend and support our swimmers. All first, second and third finalists will then compete in the regional SWISSA Carnival. We wish all competitors good luck! The students will be participating in a variety of activities that will prepare them for high school. UNIFORM SHOP The correct school uniform is only available from the school uniform shop. There may be variations in the fabric from other stores SCHOOL CAR PARK For the safety of our students, parents are requested not to drive into the school car park in the mornings and afternoons. It is safer for all if parents park in the surrounding streets and walk to the school to collect their children.
ACADEMIC FOCUS The year twelve class of 2007 is to be congratulated for its diligent academic efforts that have resulted in outstanding results. Their results reflect the College s motto to strive for excellence as both students and staff worked together so that each student achieved his/her personal best. St. Euphemia College featured in the top two hundred schools in the state and ranked in the top three schools in the Bankstown district. Our Modern Greek students achieved equal first, third and fifth positions in the state. Congratulations to all the students for their meritorious achievements! The following highlights attest to both the students diligence and the dedication and professionalism of the staff of St. Euphemia College High School. PARENTS AND FRIENDS ELECTIONS A P&F Committee will be elected on Tuesday, 19 February at 7.00pm in the school Common Room. Parents of children in Years K-12 are encouraged to take an active interest in the P&F. SCHOLASTIC SUCCESS!!! I would like to announce that as a result of academic excellence, Christina Gounaris of year 12 2007, won one of only forty one places in the Bachelor of Accounting Co-operative program. Hundreds of applicants from all over south east Australia applied for this program. As a result of this achievement, Christina will receive a scholarship at a welcome reception at the University of Technology. Furthermore, the school will receive a Certificate of Achievement by the university, suitable for permanent display. Christina is an example of a student who strove for excellence and achieved scholastic success. ΝΕΑ ΤΟΥ ΓΥΜΝΑΣΙΟΥ Καλωσόρισµα Με ιδιαίτερη χαρά καλωσορίζω τους µαθητές και το διδακτικό προσωπικό στην καινούρια σχολική χρονιά. Ευχόµαστε να περάσατε ευχάριστα τις διακοπές και να είστε ξεκούραστοι και πρόθυµοι να αρχίσετε τις καινούριες εργασίες σας. Επίσης καλωσορίζω τους καινούριους καθηγητές, τις δεσποινίδες Matthews και Strakosch και τους κυρίους Vith, Γιάγκου και Pace. Τελειώνοντας καλωσορίζω τους µαθητές και γονείς της Πρώτης Γυµνασίου. Το 2008 θα είναι µια δηµιουργική χρονιά µε κατασκηνώσεις, εκδροµές και διάφορα αθλητικά γεγονότα που θα βοηθήσουν τους µαθητές µας να αναπτύξουν τις ικανότητές τους σε άλλους τοµείς. Εκκλησιασµός Ο εκκλησιασµός γι αυτό το µήνα έχει ως εξής: Α - Γ Γυµνασίου Κυριακή 10 Φεβρουαρίου ώρα 9.30π.µ. Κατασκήνωση της Πρώτης Γυµνασίου Η κατασκήνωση των µαθητών της Α Γυµνασίου έχει οργανωθεί για να βοηθήσει τα παιδιά στην οµαλή ένταξή τους από το ηµοτικό στο Γυµνάσιο. Οι µαθητές θα πάνε στο Stanwell Tops Conference Centre από τη ευτέρα 11 Φεβρουαρίου έως την Τετάρτη 13 Φεβρουαρίου, 2008. Κατάστηµα σχολικών ειδών (Uniform Shop) Τη σωστή σχολική στολή µπορείτε να την αγοράσετε µόνο από το κατάστηµα του σχολείου. Σε εξωτερικά καταστήµατα υπάρχει διαφορά στο ύφασµα. Αγώνες Κολύµβησης Οι αγώνες κολύµβησης θα διεξαχθούν την Πέµπτη 28 Φεβρουαρίου στο Roselands Aquatic Centre. Οι γονείς/κηδεµόνες είναι ευπρόσδεκτοι να παρακολουθήσουν τους αγώνες και να υποστηρίξουν τα παιδιά τους. Όσοι κερδίσουν πρώτη, δεύτερη ή τρίτη θέση θα λάβουν µέρος στους αγώνες του SWISSA. Ευχόµαστε σε όλους τους µαθητές καλή επιτυχία. Ο χώρος στάθµευσης του σχολείου Για την ασφάλεια των παιδιών, υπενθυµίζουµε τους γονείς να µην εισέρχονται στο χώρο σταθµεύσεως του σχολείου τις πρωινές και απογευµατινές ώρες. Είναι πιο ασφαλές για όλους αν οι γονείς παρκάρουν σε κοντινούς δρόµους και περπατούν στο σχολείο για να πάρουν τα παιδιά τους. Ακαδηµαϊκά Νέα Συγχαρητήρια στους µαθητές της Γ Λυκείου του 2007, οι οποίοι µε τη συνεχή και συνετή ακαδηµαϊκή τους προσπάθεια επέτυχαν εξαιρετικά αποτελέσµατα στις εισαγωγικές εξετάσεις (HSC). Τα αποτελέσµατα αυτά αντανακλούν το γνωµικό του σχολείου µας «Τέλειοι Γίνεσθε», καθώς και οι καθηγητές αλλά κυρίως οι µαθητές εργάστηκαν και πέτυχαν το καλύτερο δυνατό. Το Κολλέγιο της Αγίας Ευφηµίας µπήκε στη λίστα των 200 καλύτερων σχολείων της ΝΝΟ και ήρθε τρίτο στην περιοχή του Bankstown. Οι µαθητές των Ελληνικών κατέλαβαν την Πρώτη (µε ισοβαθµία), την Τρίτη και την Πέµπτη θέση στην ΝΝΟ. Συγχαρητήρια σε όλους τους µαθητές για τις περίφηµες επιδόσεις τους! Χ. Χειράκης ιευθυντής
