5 th Sunday of Luke On This day, we also Commemorate: Cosmas & Damian the Holy Unmercenaries of Asia & their mother Theodota; David the Righteous of Evia Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom Apolytikion for St. Raphael in the First Tone To the offspring of Ithaca, the pride and joy of Lesvos, * monastic martyrs glory, let us offer to Raphael our songs of praise; * for lately he appeared, and pours out cures and healings to us all. * Inexplicably he appears to believers, both in dreams and awake, who cry: * Glory to Christ who gave you His might. * Glory to Him who gave you miracles. * Glory to Him who through you fulfills our prayerful requests. Apolytikion for St. Raphael in the Fourth Tone Because of the finding of your holy relics, wise one, * the Island of Lesvos has been filled fully with the grace, * which God richly gave to you. * You, O devout martyr Raphael, paradoxically * appeared to many people, and you grant cures and healings. * And therefore we the faithful re-joice in all your miracles. Apolytikion in honor of Sts. Raphael, Nicholas & Irene Having contended on Lesvos for the sake of Christ God, you have sanctified the island since the discovery of your sacred relics, O blessed ones; wherefore we honor you, O Godbearing Raphael, together with Nicholas and virgin Irene, as our divine protectors and intercessors with the Lord. Singers and Chanters: Anthony Birozes, David Boyd, Marie Chapman, Emily Christy, Maria Hagen, Lynn Lucher, Jimmy Smith Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Plagal of the First Tone: Let us worship the Word who is unoriginate * with the Father and the Spirit, and from a Virgin was born * for our salvation, O believers, and let us sing His praise. * For in His goodness He was pleased * to ascend the Cross in the flesh, and to undergo death, * and to raise up those who had died, * by His glorious Resurrection. Apolytikion of the Saints in the Plagal of the Fourth Tone: Holy Unmercenaries and Wonder-workers, visit our infirmities. Freely you received; freely give to us. Seasonal Kontakion in the Second Tone: O Protection of Christians unshamable, mediation with the Creator immovable, we sinners beg you, do not despise the voices of our prayers, but anticipate, since you are good, and swiftly come unto our aid as we cry out to you with faith: Hurry to intercession, and hasten to supplication, O Theotokos who defend now and ever those who honor you.

EPISTLE READING St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 12:27-31; 13:1-8 Prokeimenon. Mode 4. Psalm 15.3,8 Among the saints who are in his land, the Lord has been wondrous. Verse: I see the Lord before me continually. Brethren, you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, then healers, helpers, administrators, speakers in various kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way. If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

GOSPEL READING The Gospel of Luke 16:19-31 The Lord said, "There was a rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazaros, full of sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man's table; moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried; and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes, and saw Abraham far off and Lazaros in his bosom. And he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Lazaros to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.' But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazaros in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.' And he said, 'Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house, for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.' But Abraham said, 'They have Moses, and the prophets; let them hear them.' And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if some one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' He said to them, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced if some one should rise from the dead.'"

UPDATE ON THE CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY FOR THE PLC and THE SEWER CONNECTION Dear Friends and Fellow Parishioners, We would like to thank you for your giving of your time, talents and treasures! You have been wonderful examples to all of us and very inspiring. Please thank the people whose names appear on the back of this announcement. We are happy to report that there has been a concerted effort on getting our Certificate of Occupancy (CO) and we are almost there. The amounts collected are as follows: for the Sewer Connection and the PLC we have collected a total of $ 34,935.00, we have $4,000.00 in unpaid pledges for a total of $38,935. Of this total $15,000.00 is for the Sewer Connection and the balance of $23,935.00 is for all those items necessary to obtain our CO. In addition to the $4,000.00 outstanding in pledges, we will need an additional $5,000.00 to get the CO for the PLC so we can begin using it. Even after we get our CO we will have an outstanding debt of $5,000 to the General Contractor. If you have not donated, or if you wish to make an additional donation to get the CO, the time is now. Remember that obtaining the CO does not mean that all the work is finished, it only means we can use the building. The additional items on the list will be completed as we get funding. Right now we are focusing on the $5,000 to get the CO. Do take note of the fact that the total figure for the PLC is substantially lower than the figures first quoted. Part of the reason is that those items not needed for the CO were deleted. Another big part in this reduction is that our talented and skilled parishioners gave of their time and talents and saved us a substantial amount in labor fees. For the past two weekends there has been a painting and cleaning party that has saved over $3,000.00. There were also countless hours put in by our parishioners who are electrical engineers which provided additional savings. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL!
