358 Η τέχνη του Μπαλί έχει τις ρίζες της στην Ινδική-Ιάβα όπου αναπτύχθηκε μέσα από τη δουλειά τεχνιτών του Βασιλείου Μαζαπαχίτ που ήρθαν στο Μπαλί περι το τέλος του 13ου αιώνα. Από τον 16ο μέχρι τον 20ο αιώνα, τα χωριά Καμασάν και Κλουνγκούνγκ (ανατολικό Μπαλί) ήταν το κέντρο της κλασσικής Τέχνης του Μπαλί. Στις αρχές του 20ου αιώνα, με την άφιξη Ευρωπαίων αναπτύχθηκαν νέες μορφές τέχνης με εμφανή στοιχεία και επιδράσεις από την Ευρώπη. Ξυλόγλυπτα από το χωριό Μας αναγνωρίζονται παγκοσμίως. From the sixteenth until the twentieth centuries, the villages of Kamasan, Klungkung (East Bali), were the centre of classical Balinese art. During the first part of the twentieth century, with the arrival of Europeans, new varieties of Balinese art developed with the western influence aparent. Sculptures from the village of Mas, known for the woodcarvings, are recognized nationally and world-wide. It is the birthplace of the famous masters, I Tagelan, Ida Bagus Nyana and Ida Bagus Tilem. Balinese woodcarvings are a reflection of the Balinese village life, and characters of Hinduistic-Java epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata, as well as, a number of indigenous characters of the Panji narrative. In 2006, an exhibition at the Nusantara Museum, Delft, the Netherlands, Frans Leidelmeijer traced the Art Deco influence on Balinese wood carvings. Έλλη Σουγιουλτζόγλου-Σεραϊδάρη (1899-1998) γνωστή σαν Νέλλη, ήταν μια Ελληνίδα φωτογράφος της οποίας οι φωτογραφίες των αρχαίων Ελληνικών ναών πάνω σε φόντα ουρανού και θάλασσας, βοήθησαν να σχηματιστεί η εικόνα της Ελλάδας στο μυαλό των δυτικών (ή μια αυστηρότερη εξήγηση - η εικόνα της Ελλάδας στο μυαλό των Ελλήνων). Γεννήθηκε στο Αϊδίνη κοντά στη Σμύρνη και σπούδασε φωτογραφία στη Γερμανία το 1920-1921, πριν την σφαγή και τον διωγμό των Ελλήνων της Σμύρνης από τους Τούρκους. Το 1924 ήρθε στην Ελλάδα όπου δούλεψε με πατριωτική, συντηρητική και αφελή νοοτροπία. Το στυλ της συμπίπτει με τις κρατικές ανάγκες για μια ιδεαλιστική παρουσίαση της Ελλάδας και των κατοίκων της, τόσο στο εξωτερικό, όσο και για εσωτερική κατανάλωση. Από αυτή τη άποψη θεωρείται η πρώτη Ελληνίδα Εθνική διαφημίστρια, ειδικά μετά την πρόσληψή της στο Υπουργείο Τουρισμού σαν η επίσημη φωτογράφος. Το 1929 θα γίνει διάσημη με τις γυμνές φωτογραφίες στη Ακρόπολη της Μόνα Πάϊβα της Γαλλικής Όπερας. Ένα χρόνο μετά, θα κάνει φωτογραφίες του ίδιου περίπου περιεχομένου της Ούγγρας Νικόλσκα. Αυτή τη φορά θα την ντύσει με αραχνοΰφαντους χιτώνες για να αποφύγει το σκάνδαλο. Αυτές οι φωτογραφίες θα μείνουν στην ιστορία, μαζί με τις φωτογραφίες της σειράς Παραλληλισμοί όπου κλασσικά αγάλματα συνδυάζονται σε κολάζ με εικόνες βοσκών για να φανεί η βιολογική συνέχεια της Ελληνικής φυλής. Elli Souyioultzoglou-Seraidari (1899-1998) (better known as Nelly s) was a Greek photographer whose pictures of ancient Greek temples set against sea and sky backgrounds helped shape the visual image of Greece in the Western mind (or, in a critical reading, the West s visual image of Greece in the Greek mind). She was born in Aidini, near Smyrna (now Izmir), Asia Minor. She went to study photography in Germany under Hugo Erfurth and Franz Fiedler, in 1920-1921, before the 1922 expulsion of the ethnic Greeks of Asia Minor by the Turks following the Greco-Turkish war (1919-1922). In 1924, she came to Greece, where she adopted a naive nationalistic and conservative approach to her work. Her style coincided with the Greek state s need to produce an ideal view of the country and its people, for internal as well as external (tourism) purposes. In this respect Souyioultzoglou-Seraidari can be seen as the first Greek national advertiser, especially after her appointment as official photographer of the newly established Greek Ministry of Tourism. In 1929 she will become famous with the naked photos at the Acropolis ruins of Mona Paiva of the French Opera. A year later she will make photos of the Hungarian Nicolska in the same context. This time she will dress her up in transparent light fabrics to avoid a scandal. Starting Bid: 10,000 Estimate: 15,000-20,000 Ο Ιωάννης Κισσονέργης γεννήθηκε το 1889 στη Λευκωσία, το 1907 απεφοίτησε από το Παγκύπριο Γυμνάσιο και πήγε στην Αθήνα για να σπουδάσει ιατρική. Μετά το τέλος του πολέμου αποφάσισε να αφήσει τις ιατρικές σπουδές και αφοσιώθηκε στη ζωγραφική. Παρακολούθησε μαθήματα σχεδίου στην Ανώτατη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών για ενάμιση χρόνο και ύστερα αναγκάστηκε να επιστρέψει στην Κύπρο διότι προσβλήθηκε από φυματίωση. Το 1916 διορίστηκε ως καθηγητής στο μάθημα της ιχνογραφίας στο Παγκύπριο Γυμνάσιο. Ένας από τους μαθητές του τότε ήταν και ο Αδαμάντιος Διαμαντής. Εξέθεσε δικά του έργα για πρώτη φορά στην πρώτη «Κυπριακή Καλλιτεχνική Έκθεση» που οργάνωσε ο Άγγλος Κυβερνήτης της Κύπρου, Sir Ronald Storrs το 1931. Το 1936 διορίστηκε καθηγητής στην Αγγλική Σχολή στη Λευκωσία και διδάσκει εκεί μέχρι το 1952. Το 1952 οργάνωσε έκθεση έργων του στην Αίθουσα Πνευματικής Αδελφότητας. Το 1953 μετανάστευσε στη Νότια Αφρική και πέθανε το 1963 στο Γιοχάνεσμπουργκ. Το έργο του αποτελείται κυρίως από τοπία και ηθογραφικά θέματα τόσο από την αστική όσο και από την αγροτική ζωή. Επίσης ζωγραφίζει προσωπογραφίες, νεκρές φύσεις, γυμνά καθώς και μυθολογικά και ιστορικά θέματα. Στη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών και γενικά στην μετέπειτα δουλειά του θα επηρεαστεί από τους καθηγητές του Λύτρα και Γύζη. Στα έργα του και ιδιαίτερα στις τοπιογραφίες κυριαρχούν το χρώμα και η λεπτομέρεια. Όσον αφορά τα υλικά χρησιμοποιεί λάδι, μολύβι, μελάνι και νερομπογιά. Είναι ο πρώτος Κύπριος καλλιτέχνης που αποτύπωσε τον τόπο και τον κόσμο της εποχής του και άφησε έργα με ιστορικές και λαογραφικές μαρτυρίες αλλά και μεγάλη καλλιτεχνική αξία. Ο Ιωάννης Κισσονέργης θεωρείται ο πατέρας της σύγχρονης τέχνης στην Κύπρο. Ανήκει στη γενιά των καλλιτεχνών που άνοιξαν το δρόμο στην επόμενη καταξιωμένη γενιά. Ioannis Kissonergis was born in Nicosia in 1889. In 1907 he graduated the Pancyprian Gymnasium and went to Athens for medical studies. After the end of the war he decided to abandon his medical studies and concentrate on painting. For a year and a half, he took up art lessons at the Higher School of Arts in Athens, but then had to return to Cyprus as he was infected with tuberculosis. In 1916 he was appointed professor of art in the Pancyprian Gymnasium. One of his students at the time was Adamantios Diamantis. His work was exhibited for the first time in the First Artists Exhibition organised by the British Governor of Cyprus Sir Ronald Storrs in 1931. In 1936 he was appointed professor of arts at the English School in Nicosia where he continued to teach until 1952. In 1952 he organised an exhibition of his work. In 1953 he emigrated to South Africa where he died in Johannesburg in 1963. His work mainly depicts urban and rural landscapes with folkloric character. He also painted portraits, still lives, nudes as well as mythological and historical subjects. In the Art School as well as in his later work he was highly influenced by his tutors Lytras and Gyzis. His works, especially the landscapes, are dominated by colour and detail. He used oil, pencil, ink and watercolour. He was the first Cypriot artist to illustrate the people and landscapes of his time. His legacy left us with works of historic significance and folkloric testament, but also of high artistic value. Ioannis Kissonergis is considered to be the father of contemporary art in Cyprus. 418 418 Lot 418 Σάρλ Λεμανσώ (Γαλλία 1905-1980). Γαλλική, Αρ-Ντεκό, μεγάλη γαλάζια φαϊάνς μιας αλεπούς. Το ίδιο αντικείμενο βρίσκεται στο βιβλίο Craqueles σελίδα 39. Έγινε το 1933 στο εργοστάσιο St. Clement, σχεδιάστηκε από τον Σάρλ Λεμανσώ και φέρει την υπογραφή του αλλά και την σφραγίδα του εργοστασίου στην βάση του. French Art Deco, large blue crackle glazed statue of a stylised fox, Renard. The same item can be viewed in the Craqueles Book, page 39. Made in 1933 by the St. Clement factory and designed by Charles Lemanceau and bearing both the signature and marks to the base. Condition is good with a few minor age related marks here and there and a couple of chips to the corners which have been touched in. Measures approx. L73cm, H18cm, D13cm. On a black wooden base. (2) Starting Bid: 300 Estimate: 500-600 418 The workshops of Lunéville - Saint-Clément were founded by Jacques Chambrette in the 18th century.they have known a big success due to the interest shown by the Court. In the 1920s the sculptor Charles Lemanceau (1905-1980), will join the workshop. His sculptures will be very important and will contribute to the fashion of ceramic crackle glaze and faiences in Art Deco where he will be a specialist. He will work in a multitude of places but mainly for the Saint-Clement factory and he will present his work at the Paris Salon d Automne in 1925 amongst other renouned artists such as Raoul Dufy, Fernand Léger and Le Corbusier. He works his art very young under the guidance of Robert Le Lorrain and Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne. Convinced that his art is the meaning of his life, he joined Italy in 1734 to perfect his technique. On his return, he began his Mercury attaching his sandal (1740), now in the Louvre. His reputation swells in the heart of the Parisian aristocracy.
