Estimation of forest biomass can p rovide a basis for assessing the contribution of forest ecosystem to global carbon cycle. The status of single - tree biomass modeling abroad was reviewed in this paper. The key technical aspects on single - tree biom ass modeling, including samp le data collection, modeling p rocedure, model evaluation, and model app lication, were summ arized systematically. In addition, considering the needs of conducting national forest biom ass monitoring, the general single - tree biomass modeling was suggested to be the study emphases.
