4 ΑΠΟΣΤΟΛΟΣ Στα Νεα Ελληνικα Εγώ, ω Θεόφιλε, στο πρώτον βιβλίον που έγραψα, δηλαδή στο Ευαγγέλιον, έκαμα λόγον δι' όλα όσα έπραξε και εδίδαξεν ο Ιησούς από την αχήν μέχρι την ημέραν, που ανελήφθη στους ουρανούς, αφού προηγουμένως έδωκε, δια μέσου του Αγίου Πνεύματος, εντολάς στους Αποστόλους, τους οποίους ο ίδιος είχεν εκλέξει. Εις αυτούς δε και παρουσίασε τον ευατόν του ζωντανόν, ύστερα από το σωτήριον πάθος του, και έδωσε πολλάς αποδείξεις, ότι ήτο πράγματι ζωντανός. Επί σαράντα δε ημέρας παρουσιάζετο εις αυτούς και τους εδίδασκε αληθείας περί της βασιλείας του Θεού. Και καθώς συνανεστρέφετο και συνέτρωγε συχνά με αυτούς, τους έδωκε παραγγελίαν να μη απομακρύνεσθε από την Ιερουσαλήμ, αλλά να περιμένετε την εκπλήρωσιν της υποσχέσεως του Πατρός, την αποστολήν δηλαδή του Αγίου Πνεύματος, δια την οποίαν με έχετε ακούσει να σας ομιλώ. Διότι ο μεν Ιωάννης εβάπτισε με νερό μόνον, χωρίς να μεταδώση αναγέννησιν και πνευματικήν ζωήν. Σεις όμως θα βαπτισθήτε με το Πνεύμα το Αγιον, ύστερα από ολίγας ημέρας. Επειτα από αυτά τα λόγια του Κυρίου ήλθαν όλοι μαζή οι μαθηταί προς αυτόν και τον ηρώτησαν λέγοντες Κυριε, πες μας, εάν στον καιρόν τούτον, που διερχόμεθα, πρόκειται να αποκαταστήσης πάλιν ένδοξον την βασιλείαν του Ισραήλ; Ο Ιησούς όμως τους είπε δεν είναι ιδικόν σας έργον και δικαίωμα να γνωρίσετε τα χρόνια η τους ωρισμένους καιρούς, τους οποίους ο Πατήρ εκράτησε εις την ιδικήν του εξουσίαν και παγγνωσίαν. Θα λάβετε όμως δύναμιν, όταν έλθη εις σας το Πνεύμα το Αγιον, και τότε θα γίνετε μάρτυρές μου, οι οποίοι θα διδάξετε τα περί εμού εις την Ιερουσαλήμ και όλην την Ιουδαίαν και Σαμάρειαν και έως τα πλέον μακρυνά και απομονωμένα σημεία της γης Acts of the Apostles 1:1-8 Prokeimenon. 5 ΕΥΑΓΓΕΛΙΟ Στα Νεα Ελληνικα Κατὰ Ἰωάννην Εις την αρχήν της πνευματικής και υλικής δημιουργίας, άναρχος και προαιώνιος, υπήρχεν ο Υιός και Λογος του Θεού. Και ο Λογος ήτο πάντοτε αχώριστος από τον Θεόν και πλησιέστατα προς αυτόν, και ο Λογος ήτο Θεός απειροτέλειος, όπως ο Πατήρ και το Αγιον Πνεύμα. Αυτός υπήρχεν εις την αρχήν της δημιουργίας ηνωμένος προς τον Θεόν. Ολα τα δημιουργήματα έγιναν δι' αυτού και χωρίς αυτόν δεν έλαβε ύπαρξιν κανένα, από όσα έχουν γίνει. Εις αυτόν υπήρχε ζωή και ως άπειρος πηγή ζωής εδημιούργησε και διατηρεί κάθε ζωήν. Δια δε τους ανθρώπους δεν είναι μόνον η φυσική ζωη, αλλά και το πνευματικόν φως, που φωτίζει τον νουν των εις κατανόησιν και αποδοχήν της αληθείας. Και το φως λάμπει μέσα στο σκοτάδι και το σκοτάδι δεν ημπόρεσε ποτέ να το επισκιάση και το εξουδετερώση. Προάγγελος αυτού του φωτός κατά τας ημέρας εκείνας έγινεν ένας άνθρωπος, σταλμένος από τον Θεόν, του οποίου το όνομα ήτο Ιωάννης. Αυτός ήλθε με κύριον σκοπόν να μαρτυρήση περί του φωτός, δηλαδή περί του Ιησού Χριστού, και με το κήρυγμά του να προπαρασκευάση τους ανθρώπους, ώστε να πιστεύσουν όλοι στο φως. Δεν ήτο εκείνος το φως, αλλ' ήλθε να μαρτυρήση δια το φως. Ο Υιός και Λογος του Θεού ήτο πάντοτε το αληθινόν φως, το οποίον φωτίζει κάθε άνθρωπον, που έρχεται στον κόσμον. Ητο εξ αρχής στον κόσμον, ως δημιουργός και κυβερνήτης, και ο κόσμος όλος, ορατός και αόρατος, έλαβεν ύπαρξιν δι' αυτού. Και όμως όταν το φως, ο Υιός του Θεού έγινε άνθρωπος, ο κόσμος δεν τον ανεγνώρισε και δεν τον εδέχθη. Ηλθε μεταξύ των ιδικών του, δηλαδή των Ιουδαίων, τους οποίους με ιδιαιτέραν στοργήν δια μέσου των αιώνων είχε προστατεύσει, και αυτοί οι ιδικοί του δεν τον εδέχθησαν ως Σωτήρα και Θεόν των. Αλλοι όμως τον εδέχθησαν. Εις όσους δε τον εδέχθησαν με πίστιν ως Σωτήρα και Θεόν των έδωκε το δικαίωμα να γίνουν τέκνα Θεού, εις αυτούς δηλαδή που πιστεύουν στο όνομά του. Αυτοί δεν εγεννήθησαν από ανθρώπινα αίματα ούτε από θέλημα σαρκός ούτε από θέλημα ανδρός, αλλά εγεννήθησαν από τον Θεόν. Και ο Υιός και Λογος του Θεού έγινε άνθρωπος κατά υπερφυσικόν τρόπον και κατεσκήνωσεν με οικειότητα εν τω μέσω ημών και ημείς είδαμεν την μεγαλειώδη δόξαν του, δόξαν όχι ανθρωπίνην, αλλά θείαν και απέραντον, την οποίαν είχεν ως φυσικήν του κατάστασιν από τον Πατέρα, σαν Υιός του Θεού μονογενής, γεμάτος χάριν και αλήθειαν. Ο Ιωάννης μαρτυρεί δι' αυτόν και κράζει με μεγάλην φωνήν, λέγων αυτός ήτο εκείνος, δια τον οποίον σας είπα, ότι ο ερχόμενος ύστερα από εμέ είναι ασυγκρίτως ανώτερος από εμέ, διότι ως Υιός μονογενής του Πατρός υπήρχε ήδη, πριν εγώ γεννηθώ. Και από τον άπειρον πνευματικόν πλούτον αυτού όλοι ημείς ελάβαμεν και χάριν επάνω εις την χάριν. Διότι ενώ ο νόμος εδόθη δια του Μωϋσέως, δούλου του Θεού, η χάρις και η αλήθεια ήλθαν δια του Ιησού Χριστού, Υιού του Θεού. 5

6 GOSPEL Great Holy Pascha The Gospel of John 1:1-17 In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light. The true light that enlightens every man was coming into the world. He was in the world, the world was made through him, yet the world knew him not. He came to his own home, his own people received him not. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God; who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh dwelt among us, full of grace truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father. (John bore witness to him, cried, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks before me, for he was before me.'") And from his fullness have we all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace truth came through Jesus Christ. 6

The Nicene Creed I believe in one God, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven earth of all things visible invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages. Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten not created, of one essence with the Father through Whom all things were made. Who for us men for our salvation came down from heaven was incarnate of the Holy Spirit the Virgin Mary became man. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered was buried. And He rose on the third day, according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven is seated at the right h of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge the living dead. His kingdom shall have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Creator of life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who together with the Father the Son is worshipped glorified, Who spoke through the prophets. In one, holy, catholic, apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I look for the resurrection of the dead the life of the age to come. Amen. PRAYERS BEFORE HOLY COMMUNION I believe, Lord, I confess, that You are truly the Christ, the Son of the living God, Who came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the first. Moreover, I believe that this is Your immaculate Body, that this is Your precious Blood. Wherefore, I pray to You: have mercy on me, forgive me my transgressions, those voluntary involuntary, those in word, those in deed, those in knowledge those in ignorance; make me worthy to partake of Your immaculate Mysteries without condemnation, for the remission of sins life everlasting. Amen. Behold, I approach for divine Communion; Creator, burn me not as I partake; For You are Fire, which burns the unworthy. But, rather, cleanse me from every impurity. Of Your Mystical Supper, Son of God, receive me today as a communicant; for I will not speak of the Mystery to Your enemies; nor will I give You a kiss, as did Judas, but like the thief I confess You: Remember me, Lord, when You come into Your Kingdom! Be awe-stricken, O man, beholding the deifying Blood; For it is a lighted Coal that burns the unworthy. The divine Body both deifies nourishes me; It deifies the spirit, wondrously nourishes the mind. You have smitten me with yearning, O Christ, by Your divine zeal You have changed me; but burn away my sins with immaterial Fire, make me worthy to be filled with delight in You; that, leaping for joy, O good One, I may magnify Your two comings. Into the brilliant company of Your saints, how shall I the unworthy enter? For if I dare to enter into the bridal chamber, my garment betrays me, for it is not a wedding garment, I shall be bound cast out by the Angels; Lord, cleanse my soul of pollution, save me, for You love mankind. Master, Who loves mankind, Lord Jesus Christ my God, do not let these Holy Things be to me for judgment because of my unworthiness, but rather may they be for the purification sanctification of soul body, as a pledge of the life Kingdom to come. For it is good for me to cleave to God, to put my hope of salvation in the Lord. Of Your Mystical Supper, Son of God, receive me today as a communicant; for I will not speak of the Mystery to Your enemies; nor will I give You a kiss, as did Judas, but like the thief I confess You: Remember me, Lord, when You come into Your Kingdom! Grant me patience in this sickness, strength of body spirit, recovery of health. Lord, You have taught us through Your word to pray for each other that we may be healed. 12 April 12, 2015 Holy Pascha The Feast of Feasts To the Most Reverend Hierarchs, the Reverend Priests Deacons, the Monks Nuns, the Presidents Members of the Parish Councils of the Greek Orthodox Communities, the Distinguished Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Day, Afternoon, Church Schools, the Philoptochos Sisterhoods, the Youth, the Hellenic Organizations, the entire Greek Orthodox Family in America Beloved Brothers Sisters in Christ, Χριστός Ἀνέστη! Christ is Risen! In the light joy of this blessed holy Day of Resurrection, we gather to celebrate our Holy Sacred Pascha. This Pascha, this Feast of Feasts, is a celebration of life, abundant eternal. It is a celebration of the power of grace. It is a day above all others when we proclaim throughout the world that the chains of sin death have been broken, we have victory through Christ, through the power of the Cross the Resurrection we are being transformed from death to life. On this blessed day, Lent ends by being transformed into a feast of joy. The time for contrition of heart contemplation has past as we engage all our soul, body, mind with the jubilance before us. Repentance has received forgiveness grace. We have returned home are welcomed with the loving embrace of the Father. We have completed the journey of faith, in the glory of this Holy Pascha we glimpse eternal life rest. Our hope in the blessed promises of God has been fulfilled in the Holy Resurrection. This transformation has come to us through our Risen Lord. On this holy day we celebrate because of Him Who said I am the resurrection the life (John 11:25), we celebrate with Him. He is in our midst. We have seen His Passion. In the journey through the wilderness we have seen our Lord lifted up on the Cross to bear our shame sin through His suffering. Today, Jesus Christ is risen in holiness glory, revealing the power of eternal abundant life. We greet Him in joy. We receive His body blood in thanksgiving. We proclaim to the world His Resurrection. We are transformed in the light life that comes from Him. Our transformation changes everything! In the radiance glory of this Holy Pascha we find the meaning of life as it was created to be. We see our goal, our purpose, our completion our eternity. Our hope for the journey of life is strengthened. Our understing of life, of others, of the world, of all creation is changed in the truth certainty of the Resurrection. Fear is vanquished, the threat of death is annihilated, the weakness of sin is exposed in the enduring light of our Lord s holiness glory. We are now free from the guilt, our communion with God has been restored, He offers to us an abundant life of peace joy. As we gather on this day, let us be completely filled with the joy of Holy Pascha! Let us purify our senses, we shall see Christ! Let us celebrate the saving Pascha of God! Τό Πάσχα, αὐτή ἡ Ἑορτή τῶν Ἑορτῶν ἀποτελεῖ ἑορτή ζωῆς, ἄφθονης καί αἰωνί ας. Εἶναι ἑορτή τῆς δυνάμεως τῆς χάριτος. Εἶναι κυρίως ἡμέρα κατά τήν ὁποία διακηρύσσουμε σέ ὁλόκληρο τόν κόσμο ὅτι τά δεσμά τῆς ἁμαρτίας καί τοῦ θανάτου συνετρίβησαν, θριαμβεύσαμε διά τοῦ Χριστοῦ, καί διά τῆς δυνάμεως τοῦ Σταυροῦ καί τῆς Ἀναστάσεως περνοῦμε ἀπό τόν θάνατο στή ζωή. Αὐτή τήν εὐλογημένη ἡμέρα, τελειώνει ἡ Τεσσαρακοστή καί μεταλάσσεται σέ ἑορτή χαρᾶς. Ἡ περίοδος τῆς συντριβῆς τῆς καρδιᾶς καί τῆς περισυλλογῆς ἔληξαν καθώς ἡ ψυχή μας, τό σῶμα μας καί ὁ νοῦς μας μετέχουν τῆς ἀγαλλιάσεως. Ἡ μετάνοια ἔλαβε συγχώρηση καί χάρη. Ἐπιστρέψαμε στόν οἶκο μας καί μᾶς ὑποδέχεται ἡ θερμή ἀγκαλιά τοῦ Θεοῦ καί Πατρός. Ὁλοκληρώσαμε τό ταξίδι πίστεως καί μέσα στή δόξα τοῦ Ἁγίου Πάσχα βλέπουμε τήν αἰώνια ζωή καί τήν ἀνάπαυση. Ἡ ἐλπίδα μας στίς εὐλογημένες ὑποσχέσεις τοῦ Θεοῦ ὁλοκληρώνεται στήν ἁγία καί ἔνδοξη Ἀνάσταση. Αὐτή ἡ μεταμόρφωση μᾶς ἔχει δοθῆ διά τοῦ Ἀναστάντος Κυρίου. Τήν ἱερή αὐτή ἡμέρα ἑορτάζουμε λόγῳ Ἐκείνου ὁ Ὁποῖος εἶπε ἐγώ εἰμι ἡ ἀνάστασις καί ἡ ζωή (Ἰωάν. 11:25) καί ἑορτάζουμε μαζί Του. Εἶναι ἀνάμεσά μας. Βιώσαμε τά Πάθη Του. Στό ταξίδι μέσα στήν ἔρημο εἴδαμε τόν Κύριό μας πάνω στό Σταυρό νά σηκώνῃ τήν καταισχύνη καί τήν ἁμαρτία μας διά τοῦ Πάθους Του. Σήμερα, ὁ Ἰησοῦς Χριστός ἀνασταίνεται μέσα σέ ἁγιότητα καί δόξα, ἀποκαλύπτοντας τή δύναμη τῆς αἰώνιας καί ἄφθονης ζωῆς. Τόν χαιρετοῦμε μέ χαρά. Λαμβάνουμε τό σῶμα καί αἷμα Του μέ εὐγνωμοσύνη. Διακηρύσσουμε στόν κόσμο τήν Ἀνάστασή Του. Μεταμορφωνόμεθα στό φῶς καί τή ζωή πού προέρχονται ἀπ Ἐκεῖνον. Ἡ μεταμόρφωσή μας ἀλλάζει τά πάντα! Στή λάμψη καί δόξα τοῦ Ἁγίου Πάσχα, ἀνακαλύπτουμε τό νόημα τῆς ζωῆς ὅπως αὐτή δημιουργήθηκε νά εἶναι. Βλέπουμε τούς στόχους, τόν σκοπό τῆς ὑπάρξεώς μας, τήν ὁλοκλήρωσή μας καί τήν αἰωνιότητά μας. Ἡ ἐλπίδα μας γιά τό ταξίδι τῆς ζωῆς ἐνισχύεται. Ἡ κατανόηση τῆς ζωῆς, τῶν ἄλλων, τοῦ κόσμου καί ὅλης τῆς δημιουργίας μετατρέπεται στήν ἀλήθεια καί τή βεβαιότητα τῆς Ἀναστάσεως. Ὁ φόβος ὑπερνικᾶται, ἡ ἀπειλή τοῦ θανάτου ἐξολοθρεύεται καί ἡ ἀδυναμία τῆς ἁμαρτίας φανερώνεται στό διαρκές φῶς τῆς ἁγιότητος καί δόξης τοῦ Κυρίου μας. Εἴμεθα τώρα ἐλεύθεροι ἀπό τήν ἐνοχή, ἡ κοινωνία μας μέ τόν Θεό ἔχει ἀποκατασταθῆ καί ὁ Θεός μᾶς προσφέρει ἄφθονη ζωή εἰρήνης καί χαρᾶς. Καθώς συγκεντρωνόμεθα αὐτή τήν ἡμέρα, ἄς γεμίσουμε μέ τήν χαρά τοῦ Ἁγίου Πάσχα! Ἄς καθαρίσουμε τίς αἰσθήσεις μας, γιά νά δοῦμε τόν Χριστό! Ἄς ἑορτάσουμε τό λυτρωτικό Πάσχα τοῦ Θεοῦ! Ἄς προσκυνήσουμε τόν Ἅγιο Κύριό μας Ἰησοῦ! Συγχωρήσωμεν πάντα τῇ Ἀναστάσει καί ἄς διακηρύξουμε: Χριστός Ἀνέστη ἐκ νεκρῶν, θανάτῳ θάνατον πατήσας, καί τοῖς ἐν τοῖς μνήμασιν ζωήν χαρισάμενος! Ὅλοι οἱ Ὀρθόδοξοι πιστοί ἑορτάζομεν καί ἐφέτος χαρμοσύνως τήν Ἀνάστασιν τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ καί ψάλλομεν: «Θανάτου ἑορτάζομεν νέκρωσιν, Ἅδου τήν καθαίρεσιν, ἄλλης βιοτῆς τῆς αἰωνίου ἀπαρχήν καί σκιρτῶντες ὑμνοῦμεν τόν Αἴτιον» (τροπάριον τοῦ Κανόνος τῆς Ἀναστάσεως). Καί ἐνῷ ἡμεῖς χαρμοσύνως ἑορτάζομεν τήν Ἀνάστασιν τοῦ Κυρίου, ὡς πραγματικότητα ζωῆς καί ἐλπίδος, πέριξ ἡμῶν, ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ ἀκούομεν τάς κραυγάς καί τάς ἀπειλάς τοῦ θανάτου, τάς ὁποίας ἐκτοξεύουν ἐκ πολλῶν σημείων τῆς γῆς ἐκεῖνοι οἱ ὁποῖοι πιστεύουν ὅτι δύνανται νά λύσουν τάς διαφοράς τῶν ἀνθρώπων διά τῆς θανατώσεως τῶν ἀντιπάλων, γεγονός τό ὁποῖον καί ἀποτελεῖ τήν μεγαλυτέραν ἀπόδειξιν τῆς ἀδυναμίας των. Διότι, διά τῆς προκλήσεως τοῦ θανάτου τοῦ συνανθρώπου, διά τῆς ἐκδικητικότητος κατά τοῦ ἑτέρου, τοῦ διαφορετικοῦ, δέν βελτιώνεται ὁ κόσμος, οὔτε ἐπιλύονται τά προβλήματα τῶν ἀνθρώπων. Εἶναι, ἄλλωστε, ὑπό πάντων παραδεκτόν καί ἀναγνωριζόμενον, ἰδιαιτέρως δέ ὑπό τῶν σκεπτομένων ἀνθρώπων πάσης ἐποχῆς, ὅτι τό κακόν νικᾶται διά τοῦ ἀγαθοῦ καί οὐδέποτε διά τοῦ κακοῦ. Τά προβλήματα ἐπιλύονται ἀληθῶς διά τῆς ἀναγνωρίσεως καί τῆς τιμῆς τῆς ἀξίας τοῦ προσώπου καί διά τοῦ σεβασμοῦ τῶν δικαιωμάτων του. Καί ἀντιστρόφως, τά παντός εἴδους προβλήματα δημιουργοῦνται καί ὀξύνονται ἐκ τῆς περιφρονήσεως τοῦ ἀνθρωπίνου προσώπου καί τῆς καταπατήσεως τῶν δικαίων αὐτοῦ, ἰδιαιτέρως τοῦ ἀδυνάτου, ὁ ὁποῖος πρέπει νά δύναται νά αἰσθάνεται ἀσφαλής καί ὁ ἰσχυρός νά εἶναι δίκαιος διά νά ὑπάρξῃ εἰρήνη. Ἀλλά ὁ Χριστός ἀνέστη ἐκ τῶν νεκρῶν καί ἀπέδειξε καί μέ αὐτόν τόν τρόπον τήν ἀδυναμίαν τοῦ θανάτου νά ἐπικρατήσῃ καί νά ἐπιφέρῃ σταθεράν μεταβολήν εἰς τόν κόσμον. Αἱ δημιουργούμεναι διά τοῦ θανάτου καταστάσεις εἶναι ἀναστρέψιμοι, διότι, παρά τά φαινόμενα, εἶναι προσωριναί, δέν ἔχουν ρίζαν καί ἰκμάδα, ἐνῷ ἀοράτως παρών εἶναι ὁ πάντοτε νικήσας τόν θάνατον Χριστός. Ἡμεῖς, οἱ ἔχοντες τήν ἐλπίδα μας εἰς Αὐτόν, πιστεύομεν ὅτι τό δικαίωμα τῆς ζωῆς ἀνήκει εἰς ὅλους τούς ἀνθρώπους. Ἡ Ζωή καί ἡ Ἀνάστασις προσφέρονται ὑπό τοῦ πατήσαντος τόν θάνατον καί τήν ἰσχύν αὐτοῦ ἐπί τῶν ἀνθρώπων, Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ καί εἰς Αὐτόν μόνον καί εἰς τήν διδασκαλίαν Του ὁ ἄνθρωπος πρέπει νά ἐλπίζῃ. Ἡ πίστις εἰς τόν Χριστόν ὁδηγεῖ εἰς τήν Ἀνάστασιν, εἰς τήν Ἀνάστασιν πάντων ἡμῶν, ἡ πίστις καί ἡ ἐφαρμογή τῆς διδασκαλίας Του εἰς τήν ζωήν μας ὁδηγοῦν εἰς τήν σωτηρίαν πάντων ἡμῶν, ἀλλά καί εἰς τήν ἀντιμετώπισιν τῶν προβλημάτων μας ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ.
