3 Hermoupolis, July 15, 2018 Dear Friends of the Festival of the Aegean: Thank you very much for coming to the historic Apollo Theater this evening for a performance during our 14 th Annual International Festival of the Aegean; we have been planning the concerts and presentations for this year s Festival for more than a year and this Festival will exceed everything and anything we have done in the past. This year we have more than 350 artists from 28 countries spending at least 14 days preparing, rehearsing and presenting major classical repertoire: opera, symphonies, concerti, lieder, jazz, ballet, and the Greek Opera Studio of young artists from throughout the music world. Nowhere during the summer in all of Greece is there a more dramatic and varied festival on such an international scale. Plans are presently been made for 2019 (the 15 th Festival) and 2020 (the 16 th Festival) with many surprises which we will announce during future months. For next year a number of operas are being seriously considered including Verdi s IL TROVA- TORE, Bellini s NORMA and Beethoven s FIDELIO, to name several, as well as concert works by Mahler, Mozart, Beethoven, Gershwin, Bernstein, Schubert, Schuman and Faure. I wish to pay tribute to Mayor George Marangos and vice-mayor Thomai Mendrinou as well as the Municipality for their continued support and enthusiasm for what we do each summer on this idyllic Island. Indeed, after 14 years, one can safely and confidently proclaim that the Festival of the Aegean has emerged as the Salzburg of the Aegean. Your continued support and interest is a very important part of our hopes and dreams for the future. 3 Warmly and respectfully, Peter Tiboris General Music Director MidAmerica Productions and MidAm International Honorary Citizen of Syros

48 FRIENDS of the FESTIVAL 48 The Friends of the Festival celebrates its eighth year, joining the Greek community to the classical arts on the Island of Syros, through the Greek Opera Studio and the International Festival of the Aegean marks many years of numerous contributions to our artistic events and the support f many wonderful people who simply love music and feel it is important. With our growing organization ready to expand to a Festival support group this next year in New York City, we encourage all of you to continue your participation and spread the news to friends and family around the world. We thank all international supporters who have made our Festival and the music ring throughout the world. We appreciate your attendance and efforts made to keep the Festival alive each year. Our organization has sponsored Greek Young Vocal Artists to s tudy abroad after participating in the Greek Opera Studio. We have also subsidized studies and awarded scholarships to deserving and talented vocal artists. The result of the work and the support is now shown through the professional performing jobs, and acceptance of our participants to major universities and musical schools internationally. We are now proud to present many Alumni from GOS who are working in the Vocal Arts field as professionals. Each year we present performances for the children of the community. The combination of the new professional carriers and the fits of music to the children and the community is the foundation of our mission. In 2018 we are proud to support the Carnegie Hall NY Debut for Greek Young Artist Marilena Striftombola. The growth of such young artists are a perfect example of our mission. Thank you for all of those who have contributed efforts to make our organization and Festival what it is today. Please join us by supporting this 2018 Festival Season and the future projects to come. Art needs friends, and we need you!
