Welcome to the Saint Spyridon Cathedral in Worcester, Massachusetts. We are honored that you have chosen to worship with us today. It is our hope that your visit here will bring you many blessings from God. Our Church Family worships the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and every Sunday, the Lord s Day, we commemorate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to live the Holy Gospel in accordance with the Orthodox Faith; towards sanctification through God s grace in worship, the Divine Liturgy and the Sacraments: glorifying God through all joys and struggles; and as a Church Community, in Christian love, we seek to do His will so that through His mercy, we may attain His Kingdom. We are blessed to have the slippers of St. Spyridon, which are located in a reliquary at the front-left of the Church; please be sure to venerate them. Also, please be reminded that one must be an Orthodox Christian in order to receive Holy Communion. Be sure to tell us if you are visiting or if you are new to our community. Saint Spyridon At the First Synod you were manifest as a champion, and a wonder-worker, our God-bearing Father Spyridon. Wherefore, you spoke to one dead in the tomb, and a serpent you changed into gold. And while chanting your sacred services, you had angels celebrating with you, O most holy one. Glory to Him who glorified you! Glory to Him who crowned you! Glory to Him who through you works healings for everyone. Kontakion A protection of Christians unshamable, intercessor to our Holy Maker, unwavering: reject not the prayerful cries of those who are in sin. Instead, come to us, for you are good; your loving help bring unto us who are crying in faith to you: Hasten to intercede and speed now to supplicate, as a protection for all time, Theotokos, for those who honor you.

Verse: For you are just in all you have done. St. Paul's Letter to Titus 3:8-15 Titus, my son, the saying is sure. I desire you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to apply themselves to good deeds; these are excellent and profitable to men. But avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels over the law, for they are unprofitable and futile. As for a man who is factious, after admonishing him once or twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is perverted and sinful; he is self-condemned. When I send Artemas or Tychicos to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. Do your best to speed Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way; see that they lack nothing. And let our people learn to apply themselves to good deeds, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not to be unfruitful. All who are with me send greeting to you. THE HOLY GOSPEL The Gospel According to Luke 8:5-15 The Lord said this parable: "A sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell along the path, and was trodden under foot, and the birds of the air devoured it. And some fell on the rock; and as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns grew with it and choked it. And some fell into good soil and grew, and yielded a hundredfold." And when his disciples asked him what this parable meant, he said, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God; but for others they are in parables, so that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand. Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, that they may not believe and be saved. And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy; but these have no root, they believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature. And as for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bring forth fruit with patience." CHOIR Our Choir has resumed singing the Divine Liturgy on Sundays. They are looking for more voices, both male and female. Adult rehearsals are held on Sunday 9am in the preschool. Junior Choir rehearsals will begin on alternate Sundays after church. We encourage all children ages 8+ to join the Junior Choir! The next Junior Choir practice is today, Oct 14th in the Tonna Room. SPYRIDON FEEDING MINISTRY Our Mission: To provide nourishment that feeds one s physical, spiritual and emotional hunger through healthy fellowship. The Feeding Ministry, with the help of our parish volunteers, is continuing to serve a luncheon meal for those in need on the second Saturday of every month from 11:30am-1pm in the Cotsidas Cultural Center. October s luncheon (Saturday the 13 th ), is being donated by Sue Kika, who we d like to thank in advance for her participation in the Lord s Work. We would also like to thank last month s donors, the Daughter s of Penelope. 7 ANNOUNCEMENTS BASKETBALL Our boys and girls teams have both begun practices for the upcoming Metropolis of Boston Youth Basketball League. Be sure to support them and come to a game or two this season! The season begins in November. CARE MINISTRY TRAINING We are offering Universal Precaution training to all our volunteers for the CARE Ministry. This will be held on Wednesday, Oct 6pm. Please be sure to attend this important event. STEWARDSHIP Stewardship Committee will meet on Wednesday, October 7pm, immediately following the CARE Ministry Training. HOPE/JOY Our HOPE/JOY group will have it s October meeting on Friday, October 19th from 5:30-7pm. CEOC The Council of Eastern Orthodox Churches of Central Massachusetts will hold a General Assembly meeting on Wednesday, November 7th, The meeting will be held at Holy Trinity Nursing & Rehab Center in Worcester. The meeting will begin at 6:30pm in the first floor dining room with an opening prayer. If you would like to be voting delegate (5 per parish), please contact Fr Dimitri or Fr Nicholas.
