As the expense of mailing individual cards has increased over the years, and as busy lives leave little time for addressing stacks of envelopes, our community Christmas card has become more popular. The proceeds of the card are used exclusively to strengthen the parish s ministry of benevolence and help for the poor. In these difficult economic times, the exhausted resources of the Altar Fund need your generous response. 4 9th Sunday of Luke The Gospel of Luke 12:16-21 The Lord said this parable: "The land of a rich man brought forth plentifully; and he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?' And he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, 'Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.' But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." As he said these things, he cried out: "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." 5 Some Food for Thought In an initiative by the city of Peabody and Fr Chris to help the homeless in our community, we will be selling soups once a month at coffee hour to help pay for food, clothing, laundry and whatever other needs that they may have. 100% of the proceeds will go to this worthy cause. CEMETERY VISITS: Due to the number of sacraments, 40 day blessings and memorials on Sundays it is difficult to make cemetery visits on Sundays after liturgy. If you would like a Trisagion at the graveside during the week you are kindly asked to make an appointment by calling the church HOSPITAL VISITS Due to HIPAA privacy rules, hospitals no longer provide a list of Orthodox patients to us. Therefore, if you or a loved one are, or will be, in the hospital, please contact the church office for a pastoral visit. Also, please notify the office if a friend or family member is in a rehab center, nursing home, assisted living facility or under hospice care. WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS! Everyone is welcome in the Orthodox Church and may receive the blessed bread (antidoron) at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy. Sadly, the divisions in the church prompt us all to work towards reunited Christianity. The culmination of this reunion will be the ability of all Christians to receive the Eucharist together. Until that blessed day arrives, only Orthodox Christians who are in good sacramental order are permitted to receive Holy Communion in the Orthodox Church. 6 COFFEE HOUR: Please join us for the coffee fellowship hour immediately following Divine Liturgy in the Educational Center. This week's Coffee Fellowship Hour is sponsored by the Diamantopoulos family in loving memory of Nicholas Diamantopoulos. COFFEE HOUR on Monday, November 30 The Philoptochos will be having a coffee hour after the Divine Liturgy on Monday, November 30 in honor of Fr. Andrew's name day. All are invited to attend. BIBLE STUDY Fr. Anthony will start two bible study classes one on Wednesday mornings at 10 am and the other on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. The classes will begin on Wednesday, December 2, ANNUAL INTERFAITH THANKSGIVING SERVICE The Annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will be held this year at Saint Vasilios Church, Paleologos Street, Peabody, on Tuesday evening, November 24, at 7:00 PM. This service will involve clergy and representatives from the various churches and synagogues of the city. All are welcome. Following the service you are invited for refreshments. 8 Thanksgiving seems to be an appropriate time to give thanks to Saint Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church for being the recipient of Parishioner of the Year It is an honor. I accept it with humility and pride. I am grateful for my parents, who instilled the importance of Christian values and the love of family, church, and our neighbors. It is my mission in life to learn, tach, mentor, and welcome everyone, young and old into our parish life. Thanksgiving is everyday! Giving Glory to God. Pray for Peace in the World.
