Τρυφὴν τὴν ἀκήρατον, ἰχνηλατῶν ἐκ παιδός, βασάνους ὑπήνεγκας, ὑπὲρ Χριστοῦ τοῦ Θεοῦ, καὶ ἤθλησας ἄριστα ὅθεν τὴν τῶν θαυµάτων, κοµισάµενος χάριν, λύτρωσαι πάσης βλάβης, καὶ παντοίας ἀνάγκης, Τρύφων Μεγαλοµάρτυς, τοὺς σὲ µακαρίζοντας Dismissal Hymn of St. Tryfon Fourth Tone Thy Martyr, O Lord, in his courageous contest for Thee received the prize of the crowns of incorruption and life from Thee, our immortal God. For since he possessed Thy strength, he cast down the tyrants and wholly destroyed the demons' strengthless presumption. O Christ God, by his prayers, save our souls, since Thou art merciful. Pastoral Message Feb. 1st The Feast of St. Tryfon the Martyr is honoured. St. Tryfon was born in Lampsacus of Phrygia. He tended geese at a young age and was faithful to God with great zeal. He was a miraculous wonderworker who healed many people suffering from illnesses and who had the ability to cast out demons from the ones who were demon possessed. About the year 250, during the reign of the Emperor Decius, he was taken to Nicaea, where he was beaten, bound to horses and dragged over rough ground, then dragged naked over nails; he suffered burns with torches; finally he gave up his soul to God right before he was beheaded by the sword. Saint Tryfon is one of the Holy Unmercenaries, and is also considered the protector of gardens from insects and pests. We should call upon this saint St. Tryfon to constantly strengthen our weaknesses and help us through our sufferings. 1

St. George s Hellenic Language School: Hi Parents, If you haven't done so yet, please check out our main web page for information about our Parent, Teacher, Student Conferences being held this Saturday January 31, 2015 from 12:00-2:00 in the gym. Process: There is NO sign-up sheet this year as it will be first come first serve. Please pick up your children a bit before 12:00 and head on upstairs. Your child's teacher will provide you with their Progress Report and 7-10 minutes to discuss your child's progress. In the end if you require more time please feel free to schedule a time after class one Saturday. Preschool will still run from 10:00am - 2:00pm. Progress Reports: We have improved our Progress Reports this year to better suit our students' needs and for a more thorough approach for parent understanding in Second Language Learning. Our teachers have worked hard studying their curriculums and creating a list of goals/outcomes that are to be taught and learned by the end of the year. You will be able to see exactly in what areas your child excels in and in what areas your child needs more support. The front page of your child's Progress Report outlines and explains the 4 areas of Language Learning and how your child is assessed. Please take the time to read this. Students up to Grade 7 will NOT be assigned a percentage grade as we feel this is not the most accurate way to assess a child in these levels. Students in Mrs. Kavgadoulis class (Grades 8-12) will be assessed in both, outcomes and assignments with a percentage. It is encouraged for you to attend WITH your child as this is a time to discuss your child's progress. If you have more than 1 child, please understand that this is a time for individual discussion and only the one child should be present. We would love your feedback so please feel free to email your thoughts. MLD Field-Trip: Attached is a copy of the Permission Form for the Mother Language Day Field-Trip for your convenience. If it's easier, you may print and fill it out and bring it in on Saturday. I will be at a table with extra copies for those who do not have the chance to fill it out and to answer any questions you have. Thanks Everyone! Enjoy the weather and outdoor festivities and see you Saturday! Maria Lekkos-Carrozza Principal 4
