Lifts: There are various lifts from the Great Court concourse to the Upper Floors and to the Basement. The North lift inside the Montague Place entrance and the lifts at the South end of the Great Court provide access to the Upper Floors. Gallery Closures: All galleries are subject to closure at short notice due to temporary staff shortages or essential work. Please ring the Museum to find out about closures notified to us in advance, but please be aware that closures can occur on the day. We advise, therefore, that you plan some flexible work. For any further information please ask at the Information Desk located in the Great Court. During Your Visit Do not leave children unaccompanied at any time. You might like to organise your class into smaller groups before you arrive so that the students know which adult they are with. Check that everyone knows where the toilets and lunchroom are and where you will be meeting before leaving. Arrange a place to meet in case members of the group become separated; the Ford Centre is a good location. Please remind your group: not to run or shout to discard chewing gum in the waste bins before entering the museum not to eat or drink in the galleries not to touch objects or lean on the display cases to respect other visitors - they want to enjoy the Museum too! If you have any questions during your visit the Information Desk or Gallery staff are there to help you. They are also your first point of contact should you need help locating a lost member of the group, need first aid treatment or during an emergency situation. Drawing: Visitors are welcome to draw objects in the galleries using standard art materials such as pencils, coloured pencils and crayons. Please do not use paint in the galleries. Photography/Video: Visitors may use hand-held cameras with flash, or video cameras in most areas of the Museum except in temporary exhibitions, where no photography is allowed. Tripods are not allowed without prior permission from Visitor Services. Why we say Please don t touch It s a good idea to discuss this topic with your group before they come. They will be learning about two important aspects of the Museum: conservation and public display. Touching objects destroys them, even stone ones. The acid from sweat eats into the toughest materials. We want to preserve the objects so that people in the future can see and enjoy them too! Accidents can happen and we do not want any visitors or objects to come to harm, we can all lessen the risk by not touching the objects and remaining sensible and calm in the galleries. We ask that people do not touch the glass display cases because this leaves fingerprints. Smeary glass is unpleasant and makes it harder to see the objects for all of us. 5 Κυπριακή Εκπαιδευτική Αποστολή 2013-2014
