Κυριακή µετά τα Φώτα Μετά από τη Βάπτισή του ο Κύριος άρχισε το δηµόσιο έργο του. Ήταν το κήρυγµα για τη Βασιλεία του Θεού. Με τη Βάπτισή του ο Χριστός µας φανέρωσε πως είναι ο αγαπητός Υιός του Θεού. Συνάµα µας αποκάλυψε πως είναι και ο πραγµατικός αδελφός µας. Με το κήρυγµα του ο Κύριος µας καλεί να µετανοήσουµε. 1. Η ευαγγελική περικοπή µας θυµίζει τη σύλληψη του Ιωάννου από τον Ηρώδη τον Αντύπα. Αυτός ήταν γιος του Ηρώδη του Μεγάλου, που τον ξέρουµε από τη σφαγή των νηπίων στη Βηθλεέµ. Ο Ιωάννης ο Βαπτιστής τον είχε ελέγξει γιά την αµαρτωλή ζωή του. Αυτό έγινε αφορµή να συλληφθεί Ιωάννης και αργότερα να αποκεφαλιστεί. 2. Στο πρόσωπο του Κυρίου πραγµατοποιείται η προφητεία του προφήτη Ησαΐα, που λέγει ότι ο Μεσσίας είναι το µεγάλο φως που είδε ο κόσµος. Ο Χριστός είναι «ο ήλιος της δικαιοσύνης» και «το φως του κόσµου». Ο Κύριος φωτίζει το νου, την ψυχή και την καρδιά µας. Μας καθαρίζει από τις αµαρτίες, όπως η φωτιά καθαρίζει τα µέταλλα από τις σκουριές και τα κάνει να λαµποκοπούν. 3. Το κήρυγµα του Κυρίου είναι τα ίδια τα λόγια του Αγίου Ιωάννη του Προδρόµου: «Μετανοείτε». Αυτό µας δείχνει πως το κήρυγµα του Χριστού είναι συνέχεια στο κήρυγµα των Προφητών. Επίσης µας διδάσκει πως η µετάνοια είναι απαραίτητη για κάθε άνθρωπο, αν θέλει να βρεθεί κοντά στο Χριστό και να απολαύσει τη Βασιλεία του Θεού. Ο άνθρωπος χρειάζεται τη µετάνοια από τη µικρή του ηλικία. Με τη µετάνοια καταλαβαίνουµε το φταίξιµο και την αµαρτία µας και ζητάµε το έλεος και τη συγχώρηση του Θεού. Ο Χριστός συγχωρεί όλες τις κακές πράξεις µας, αλλά και εµείς του δίνουµε συνάµα την υπόσχεση πως θα βάλουµε τα δυνατά µας να µην ξανακάνουµε πάλι τα ίδια. 4. Πρέπει πολύ να προσέξουµε τη διαγωγή µας από τώρα. Να µη στενοχωρούµε και να µη πικραίνουµε τους γονείς µας. Είναι εκείνοι που µας αγαπούν περισσότερο από όλους τους άλλους. Μια παρακοή, ένας θυµός, µια οποιαδήποτε κακή πράξη δηµιουργεί στο παιδί µια ψυχρότητα και περιορίζει την αγάπη του στους γονείς. Εδώ χρειάζεται µεγάλη προσοχή. Το παιδί πρέπει αµέσως να ζητεί από τους γονείς τη συχώρεση για κάθε αστοχία του. Να επικαλείται τη βοήθεια του Θεού µε το µυστήριο της µετάνοιας όταν εξοµολογείται ειλικρινά.

Father, assisted by Dimitri Michaels, our Music teacher & Church chanter, blessed the Vasilopita & explained the miracle of St. Basil to the children.
