2007-08 Season Recap The University of Oklahoma women s golf team experienced a season of growth during the 2007-2008 season. The Sooners captured three tournament victories, Championship, the first time for the team to do so since 2004. OU started on the right foot at the Badger Invitaional in Madison, Wis., capturing for the top spot as the final round was cancelled due to heavy rain. Despite the damper of the weather, the team returned to Norman with the first championship trophy of the year and a feeling that this season would be special. Three weeks later, the Sooners stayed hot after their breakout performance. At the Heather Farr Memorial Invitational in Boulder, Colo., every individual placed within the top 50, which carried the Sooners to an impressive second-place finish. A week later at the Jeannine McHaney/Audrey Morehead Invitational in Lubbock, Texas, OU posted a fourth-place finish, its third consecutive top-four finish in as many fall tournaments. With the end of the fall season nearning, the Sooners closed with a dramatic vic- the final round in fifth place. District Invitational in Parrish, Fla., and the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico), OU travled south of the Red River to Austin, Texas, for the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational. remaining on the schedule, OU needed to make some noise down the stretch to solidfy its position for the NCAA Regional Championships. Oklahoma proved that the season still held a lot of promise as the team earned a third-place finish at the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz. That tournament provided the Sooners with confidence heading into their home tournament, the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic. Putting together their best three-round score of the season and leading wireto-wire, the Sooners did it again, winning the Susie Maxwell for the first time since 2004. To add to the excitement, junior Kendall Dye captured the individual championship title as well. earned a bid to the NCAA West Regional in Lincoln, Calif. The team concluded its spectacular 2007-08 season with a 303 in the final round Reaching the regional championships for the first time since 2004 was a big goal coming into the season, and Ludvigson s squad made that goal a reality. In the process, the Sooners recorded one of the greatest seasons OU women s golf has ever seen. Senior Kelly Jacques had the best season of her Sooner career recording eight tops on the team. Jacques completed her OU career with a 76.93 career scoring average, ranking her fourth all-time in school history. She finished with 20 top- Senior Heather Wright closed her Oklahoma career with a couple of career bests during her senior campaign. In the first round of the MountainView Collegiate, place at the MountainView Collegiate, a career-best tournament finish. She com- fives. Her final career stroke average of 78.09 placed her in seventh place in OU history. Junior Kendall Dye captured her first career tournament championship at the equaling her best career tournament finish at the time. Dye finished the season Maxwell. Dye s career scoring average of 76.90 ranked her second all-time at OU. Freshman Ellen Mueller had one of, if not the best rookie seasons in Oklahoma women s golf history. She saved her best for last, finishing tied for 22nd place in the strongest field of the season, at the NCAA West Regional. Her three-round an individual. She had a scoring average of 76.90, third on the team. The 76.90 tournaments for the Sooners this season, recording seven top-25s, four top 20s, in her first-ever collegiate event, the Badger Invitational. Five Sooners battled throughout the year for the fifth spot in the lineup. In the last three tournaments, it was sophomore Ryanne Elmer who filled that spot. 54-hole tournament. Junior Staci Smoot recorded a career-best 36-hole tournament score at the Betsy Sophomore Andrea Sellmeyer fired her low round of the season at the Susie Senior Sydney Lee 73 in the final round. OU s season featured many great accomplishments, both on and off the course. and Mueller were named to the NGCA All-American Scholars team. The group was very well-rounded, a testament to the job Ludvigson has done and what she will be able to do in the future with such a young nucleus to work with. 30 OKLAHOMA WOMEN S GOLF
