Εισαγωγή Το «Four Steps From Epirus» είναι μία μουσική σύνθεση του Γεράσιμου Σιάσου για Ηπειρώτικο Ντέφι. Αποτελεί μία πρωτότυπη εργασία για την Ελληνική Μουσική Εργογραφία που προσπαθεί να αναδείξει τις σολιστικές δυνατότητες επεκτείνοντας ταυτόχρονα τις προοπτικές του Ηπειρώτικου Ντεφιού. Επιπρόσθετα φανερώνει και αναλύει τις ιδιαίτερες τεχνικές που έχουν αναπτυχθεί και εφαρμοστεί στην οργανοχρησία του από τους αξιόλογους παραδοσιακούς οργανοπαίχτες, ενώ παράλληλα προσαρμόζει τεχνικές που εφαρμόζονται σε παρεμφερή frame drums άλλων μουσικών πολιτισμών με σεβασμό στις ηχητικές ιδιαιτερότητες του εν λόγω οργάνου. Το παρόν score αποτελείται από τρία μέρη. Στο πρώτο μέρος γίνεται μία περιγραφική παρουσίαση των τεχνικών οργανοχρησίας που χρησιμοποιούνται καθώς και τον τρόπο καταγραφής τους στην παρτιτούρα. Για την καταγραφή χρησιμοποιήθηκαν στοιχεία της ευρωπαϊκής μουσικής σημειογραφίας καθώς και πρωτότυπα σημάδια με σκοπό την απροβλημάτιστη ανάγνωση της παρτιτούρας από μουσικούς διαφορετικών παραδόσεων και κουλτούρας. Το δεύτερο μέρος αποτελείται από τη παρτιτούρα του Four Steps From Epirus καθώς και μία παραλλαγή του εν λόγω κομματιού για δύο Ηπειρώτικα Ντέφια. Η παραλλαγή για δύο Ηπειρώτικα Ντέφια πρόεκυψε από την ανάγκη συνομιλίας που δημιουργείται ανάμεσα σε δύο μουσικούς που μόλις γνώρισαν ένα μουσικό θέμα και θέλουν να το αναπτύξουν σε έναν φιλικό μουσικό διάλογο. Το τρίτο μέρος αποτελεί η ηχογράφηση του «Four Steps From Epirus» από τον Γεράσιμο Σιάσο στο Ηπειρώτικο Ντέφι. Είναι κάτοχος Διπλώματος Σύνθεσης και έχει μαθητεύσει στα frame drums με τους Νικόλαο Φορλίδα, Glen Velez και N. Scott Robinson. Από το 2001 διδάσκει Ελληνικά παραδοσιακά κρουστά στο Μουσικό Σχολείο Αγρινίου. Είναι διοργανωτής και καλλιτεχνικός διευθυντής του πρώτου και δεύτερου Frame Drums Meeting στην Ελλάδα (Greek Frame Drums Meeting).
Introduction Composed by Gerasimos Siasos, the Four Steps From Epirus is a music piece for Epirotiko Defi, which is a medium-diameter frame drum with jingles from Epirus the North West region of Greece. Being a novel and innovative work considering the Greek state-ofthe-art in the field of the frame drums, the piece in scope aims to show the drumming capabilities of Epirotiko Defi while broadening its playing perspectives. Additionally, the Greek traditional playing techniques are presented and analyzed. Also, techniques of similar frame drums of other cultures are adapted so as to meet the playing specialness of the Greek frame drum and adopted respecting the distinctive sound color of Epirotiko Defi. The score is divided in three parts. The playing techniques that are being implemented during the Four Steps From Epirus are presented and analyzed during the first part and the used notation is given. The notation is coded based on the European music notation in order to be intuitively read by every musician. The Four Steps From Epirus score is given during the second part of the present work which is divided in two segments. The main part that includes the solo version of the piece is presented during the first segment, and a variation for two frame drums is proposed during the second segment so as to cover the need of two frame drummers who want to experiment and play as a duet the music theme. The third part of this work includes the studio recording of the Four Steps From Epirus music piece in which Gerasimos Siasos is playing the Epirotiko Defi. He is a composer (Diploma of Music Composition) and he studied frame drums with Nikolaos Forlidas, Glen Velez and N. Scott Robinson. Since 2001 he teaches traditional Greek percussions in Experimental Music High School in Agrinion, Greece. Gerasimos Siasos was the artistic director and organizer of the first and second Greek Frame Drums Meeting.
