Methods Osteoporotic patients were randomly selected. All the patients were divided into kidney yin deficiency groupkidney yang deficiency groupand non-kidney deficiency group according the syndrome differentiation of traditional Chinese medicine. Each group had 3 patients. Another 3 people with normal bone mineral density BMD were selected as normal control. Gene expression profiles of the bone tissues in all 4 groups were detected using the human genome-wide expression profile chip. The differentiated expression genes were screenedand the analysis of the related functions of these genes including the pathways was conducted. Results Compared with that in kidney yang deficiency groupnon-kidney deficiency groupand normal control group the number of differentiated expression genes in kidney yin deficiency group was 23784026and 407respectively. Compared with that in these 3 groupsthe number of common differentiated expression gene in kidney yin deficiency group was 344. These genes were involved in pathways including immunoregulationmineral absorptionhormone synthesisand histidine metabolism. Conclusion Related genes of kidney yin deficiency syndromes in primary osteoporosis are mainly related to the signal pathways such as immunoregulationhormone synthesishistidine metabolism and mineral absorption.
