Entrance Hymns Apolytikion Let us worship the Word, O ye faithful, praising Him that with the Father and the Spirit is cobeginningless God, Who was born of a pure Virgin that we all be saved; for He was pleased to mount the Cross in the flesh that He assumed, accepting thus to endure death. And by His glorious rising, He also willed to resurrect the dead. By blossoming forth the only Ever-virgin as fruit, today holy Anna doth betroth us all unto joy, instead of our former grief; on this day she doth fulfil her vows to the Most High, leading her with joy into the Lord's holy temple, who truly is the temple and pure Mother of God the Word. For The Memorials Keep Thy servants in remembrance, O Lord, since Thou art good; and do Thou forgive every sin in this life; for no man is without sin, except for Thee Who art able to grant rest even unto him who has departed hence. Saint Spyridon Father, God-bearer, Spyridon, you were proven a champion and Wonder Worker of the First Ecumenical Council. You spoke to the girl in the grave and turned the serpent to gold. And, when chanting your prayers, most sacred One, angels ministered with you. Glory to Him who glorified you; glory to Him who crowned you; glory to Him who, through you, works healing for all. ΤΗΕ EPISTLE St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 6:11-18 You, O Lord, shall keep us and preserve us. Verse: Save me, O Lord, for the godly man has failed. BRETHREN, see with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that would compel you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For even those who receive circumcision do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh. But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. Peace and mercy be upon all who walk by this rule, upon the Israel of God. Henceforth let no man trouble me; for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen.
THE HOLY GOSPEL 9th Sunday of Luke The Gospel according to Luke 12:16-21 The Lord said this parable: "The land of a rich man brought forth plentifully; and he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?' And he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, 'Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.' But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." Possessions What is the proper Orthodox use of our possessions? It symbolizes our Faith It is Sacramental As Orthodox Christian Stewardship Ambassadors we need to be aware of: Our people are caught between being and having what we are to possess and how to use them The way we dispose of our possessions is symbol of our spiritual commitments Meeting the other in our lives calls us out of captivity of idolatry into gift of freedom Obedient faith means relinquishing our hold on what is ours and allowing these possessions to be re-imagined by advancing God s Kingdom in our lives Good stewardship is a personal but also a communal response Generosity God provides us with a clear criteria for becoming a generous person Genuine generosity gives the first and the best to God (Proverbs 3:9-10) Genuine generosity is regular and systematic (1 Corinthians 16:2) Genuine generosity is proportional to our income ( 1 Corinthians 16:2) Genuine generosity is sacrificial ( in their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity 2 Corinthians 8 1-4)
