LOVE, ME. How far would you go for love?

Love, Me. SHORT SYNOPSIS A broken-hearted student, Margarita, seeks answers about love from her professor, who s been imprisoned for mercy-killing his terminally ill wife. Through the quest for love and the exploration of its boundaries, the story deals with a highly controversial issue of our times: Cyprus holds one of the highest rates of cancer incidence in Europe. Love, me tells the story of a recently heart-broken college student who is seeking for answers. She turns to her imprisoned professor, who has given up his future and his career in the name of love: having been burdened by watching the love of his life suffer a slow, painful death by cancer, he has consented to kill her. How far would you go for love?

ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ Μέσα από την αναζήτηση και την εξερεύνηση της αγάπης και των ορίων της, η ταινία παράλληλα πραγματεύεται ένα φλέγον πρόβλημα του καιρού µας: τη μάστιγα του καρκίνου, που στην Κύπρο κατέχει ένα από τα υψηλότερα ποσοστά στην Ευρώπη. Το Love, Me αφηγείται την ιστορία μιας φοιτήτριας που, μετά τον πρόσφατο χωρισμό της, αναζητά απαντήσεις. Στρέφεται στο φυλακισμένο καθηγητή της, ο οποίος έχει θυσιάσει το μέλλον και την καριέρα του στο όνομα της αγάπης: έχοντας δει τη γυναίκα της ζωής του να υποφέρει αργοπεθαίνοντας από καρκίνο, πείθεται να την σκοτώσει. Εσύ πόσο µακριά θα έφτανες για την αγάπη;

DIRECTOR S APPROACH THE STORY After her boyfriend Stephanos breaks up with her, Margarita sets out to understand the nature of unconditional love and, more importantly, why she is so unlovable. Through visiting sessions with her former professor Harry, a man serving time for the mercy-killing of his terminally ill wife, Margarita believes she is getting closer to the answers she s yearning for. But just how far is she willing to go to experience true love?

DIRECTOR S APPROACH THE INCENTIVE In the story the professor, age 40, has the option of starting over after his wife s death. Instead, he decides to give up his future and his career in the name of love. His state of mind convinces him that his wife is the only woman he could truly love. He cannot watch her slowly die of cancer and therefore consents to kill her. The student, age 22, frustrated by her recent breakup, is intrigued by her professor s inconceivable act of love. She decides to take advantage of the amorous feelings of her colleague Louis, in order to experience her mistaken perceptions, leading herself in a twisted journey towards true love. She asks Louis to kill her, as proof of his love. The issues illustrated have drawn my attention as a director and as a human being. The exploration of these sensitive themes and the realistic portrayal of the characters have made me want to realize this film.

SHORT BIO www.petroscharalambous.net Petros Charalambous was born in Nicosia in 1976. His early exposure to photography, theater and art, as well as his need for emotional and visual expression led him to Hollywood where he studied film and television directing at the California State University, Los Angeles. His work experience in USA includes a year at CNN/DNEW in Los Angeles. In 2000 he came back to Cyprus, where he taught television production at the Frederick University. At the same time he was working for Lumiere Services as a film director, until 2008. Since then, he works as a freelancer film director shooting mainly commercials, corporate videos, music videos, narrative and documentaries. Some of the commercials he directed were shortlisted for several advertising competitions. His short film The Escape of the Queen attended a lot of film festivals all over the world winning awards and distinctions. He also directed several TV shows and live performances. Among others, in 2008 he directed the opera Epitafios, the short film Voices and currently completed the feature documentary The Fire Within. The documentary "The Fire Within" attended the 13th Thessalloniki Documentary Festival, Greece, March 2011 and the Lemesos International Documentary Festival, Cyprus, August 2011 [watch the interview at http://www.kipros.tv/2011/08/03/thefire-within/ ]. It was also accepted at the Medimed Euromediterranean Doc Market, Spain, October 2011, the DocFest in Halkida-Greece, October 2011 and the 3rd Cypriot Director s Festival, November 2011.

SHORT BIO www.petroscharalambous.net NEWS: Currently in pre-production for the feature film "The Land of the Golden Apple "A precocious young boy comes of age amidst the drama of a village on the boil. Based on a novel first published in the UK, by the British-Cypriot novelist Eve Makis, this is the true story of a boy whose idyllic life in a Mediterranean village is disrupted by a crime that claims his innocence. Filmworks has acquired the rights of the book while Eve Makis has adapted the story into a feature length screenplay, which was further developed with the assistance of the Script Consultant Henri Saint-Cassia. It is currently being accepted at the EAVE 2012 Producer s Workshop that will take place in Luxemburg, Croatia and The Netherlands. The film has received funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture in Cyprus and expected to be shot in April 2014.
