Sunday, November 22, 2015 Hymns Following the Gospel (Small Entrance) Resurrectional Apolytikion 4 th Mode You descended from on high, O compassionate One, and condescended to be buried for three days, so that from the passions You might set us free. Our life and resurrection, O Lord, glory be to You. Apolytikion 4 th Mode Today is the prelude of God's good will and the heralding of the salvation of mankind. In the temple of God, the Virgin is presented openly, and she proclaimeth Christ unto all. To her, then, with a great voice let us cry aloud: Rejoice, O thou fulfilment of the Creator's dispensation. St. Vasilios 1 st Mode Your message was carried throughout the world. As it received your mighty word, By which you divinely made manifest And clarified the nature of existing things You set in order the customs of men, You who are royal priesthood! Holy Father, intercede with Christ our God To grant us His great mercy. Seasonal Kontakion 4 th Mode Today, the most pure temple of the Savior, the precious bridal chamber and Virgin, the sacred treasure of God, enters the house of the Lord, bringing the grace of the Divine Spirit. The Angels of God praise her. She is the heavenly tabernacle. As the expense of mailing individual cards has increased over the years, and as busy lives leave little time for addressing stacks of envelopes, our community Christmas card has become more popular. The proceeds of the card are used exclusively to strengthen the parish s ministry of benevolence and help for the poor. In these difficult economic times, the exhausted resources of the Altar Fund need your generous response. We invite all who wish to make a free-will offering in whatever amount they consider appropriate. Please join us in sharing the blessings of the Christmas season. Fill in the following application and mail or bring it to the church office by the deadline of DECEMBER 1, 2015. PLEASE PRINT CLEARLY Name(s): Tel. No.: Donation Amount: 2 15

St. Paul's Letter to the Ephesians 4:1-7 Prokeimenon. Mode Plagal 4. Psalm 75.11,1 Make your vows to the Lord our God and perform them. Verse: God is known in Judah; his name is great in Israel. BRETHREN, I, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all lowliness and meekness, with patience, forbearing one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ's gift GOYA BOYS AND GIRLS BASKETBALL We are putting together our GOYA Boys and Girls grades 8-12 Basketball Teams to play in the inter-church Metropolitan League. 9th Sunday of Luke The Gospel of Luke 12:16-21 The Lord said this parable: "The land of a rich man brought forth plentifully; and he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?' And he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, 'Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.' But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." As he said these things, he cried out: "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." 4 13

Some Food for Thought In an initiative by the city of Peabody and Fr Chris to help the homeless in our community, we will be selling soups once a month at coffee hour to help pay for food, clothing, laundry and whatever other needs that they may have. 100% of the proceeds will go to this worthy cause. If you would like to place an order for soup contact Brandon Simpson at 978-223-0317 PLEASE PRAY FOR: Stephen, Jimmy, Nina, David, James, Christopher, Denton, Christine, Steven, Ariana, Hannah, Alex If you wish to add or remove a name from the list, please call the Church Office. CEMETERY VISITS: Due to the number of sacraments, 40 day blessings and memorials on Sundays it is difficult to make cemetery visits on Sundays after liturgy. If you would like a Trisagion at the graveside during the week you are kindly asked to make an appointment by calling the church HOSPITAL VISITS Due to HIPAA privacy rules, hospitals no longer provide a list of Orthodox patients to us. Therefore, if you or a loved one are, or will be, in the hospital, please contact the church office for a pastoral visit. Also, please notify the office if a friend or family member is in a rehab center, nursing home, assisted living facility or under hospice care. WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS! Everyone is welcome in the Orthodox Church and may receive the blessed bread (antidoron) at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy. Sadly, the divisions in the church prompt us all to work towards reunited Christianity. The culmination of this reunion will be the ability of all Christians to receive the Eucharist together. Until that blessed day arrives, only Orthodox Christians who are in good sacramental order are permitted to receive Holy Communion in the Orthodox Church. If you have any questions or concerns please speak with Father Chris. Philoptochos Christmas luncheon will be held on December 12, 2015 at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, MA at Noon. Please call Fran Katsulis at 978-535-0469 to make your reservation or if you have any questions. Thanksgiving seems to be an appropriate time to give thanks to Saint Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church for being the recipient of Parishioner of the Year 2015. It is an honor. I accept it with humility and pride. I am grateful for my parents, who instilled the importance of Christian values and the love of family, church, and our neighbors. It is my mission in life to learn, tach, mentor, and welcome everyone, young and old into our parish life. Thanksgiving is everyday! Giving Glory to God. Pray for Peace in the World. Yours in Christ, Mary Maihos Franggos 8 9
