Sea experiences Milos is known for its magnificent beaches which s total number counts more than seventy. In every corner of the island, there are spectacular coasts with azure crystal waters, waiting to fascinate even the most demanding visitor. Small and long dentelated coastlines, which are bathed in the Aegean light, white golden sandy beaches, golden waters, sea-chiseled rocks and unique color combinations compose the superb landscape of the island and promise you unforgettable moments! Only three hundred meters west of Adamas center, you will see the small and hospitable Lagada bay. The bay has a wonderful sandy beach with very clean waters and some armirikia trees (those small, salt water-loving trees that are often met on the Aegean beaches) offering natural shadow. One kilometer east of Adamas, you will see the long beach Papikinou, where the armirikia trees are spread almost up to the sea. This is the only beach of the island which has a blue flag, while there are only a few beach umbrellas and sun beds provided. Although there is a regular bus service to the beach, the access is easily achieved also by other vehicle, as there is a spacious parking area. Along the street, you will see some shops. Μόλις τριακόσια μέτρα δυτικά του κέντρου του Αδάμαντα θα βρείτε το μικρό και φιλόξενο κόλπο της Λαγκάδας. Αποτελείται από μία όμορφη αμμουδιά με πεντακάθαρα νερά και αρκετά αρμυρίκια για φυσική σκιά. Στο ένα χιλιόμετρο ανατολικά του Αδάμαντα θα συναντήσετε τη μεγάλης έκτασης παραλία του Παπικινού, όπου τα αρμυρίκια φτάνουν σχεδόν μέχρι τη θάλασσα. On the west of the airport and inside the inner gulf of the island, is Hivadolimni (meaning lake full of clams ), a very large white golden sandy beach with azure shallow waters. Its name derives from the small lake that is on the other side and is full of clams. On the beach, there are some armirikia trees offering natural shadow, a canteen and a camping, while there are some restaurants nearby. If you continue westward, you will reach Rivari, a small harbour with a beautiful lagoon close by. After you pass Rivari, you will see Empourio, another picturesque and isolated small harbour. There are a few rooms to let and a traditional tavern nearby. On the west end of the gulf is the Aghios Dimitrios (Saint Jim) cove with its azure waters inviting you to swim till the small sandy beach and the picturesque chapel, which are visible on the distant horizon. Access is achieved only by sea. If you continue westward along the outside of the gulf, you will reach Agathia (meaning thorns ), a small bay which is protected from the wind, with azure shallow waters and a large sandy beach waiting to reward the few ones, who have walked all the way along the difficult dirt road. A little further are the Triades (meaning triads ) beaches, three secluded, sandy beaches, located one after the other, all of them having fabulous waters. The next one to see is Ammoudaraki beach (named from the greek word ammos, meaning sand ) with its fantastic sand. If you continue on the same route, you will discover the beach Aghios Ioannis (Saint John), named from the historic monastery Aghios Ioannis Siderianos, which is on your way to the beach. It is a tranquil beach with white golden sand and azure-green waters. It is separated in three parts, which are interconnected by small paths. The access to the beach is rather difficult, as you have to walk along a difficult dirt road of about twelve kilometers. After Aghios Ioannis beach, you will see the amazing Sykia (meaning fig ) cave, which constitutes a landscape of exquisite natural beauty and which is definitely worth to visit! Συνεχίζοντας δυτικά θα βρεθείτε στο Ριβάρι, ένα μικρό λιμανάκι που δίπλα του υπάρχει μία όμορφη λιμνοθάλασσα. Μετά το Ριβάρι συναντάμε τον Εμπουριό, άλλο ένα γραφικό και απομονωμένο λιμανάκι. Στην περιοχή υπάρχουν λίγα ενοικιαζόμενα δωμάτια και μία παραδοσιακή ψαροταβέρνα. Στη δυτική άκρη του κόλπου υπάρχει ο όρμος του Αγίου Δημητρίου, με τα καταγάλανα νερά του να σας καλούν να κολυμπήσετε μέχρι τη μικρή αμμουδιά που διακρίνεται στο βάθος και το γραφικό ξωκλήσι. Η πρόσβαση στην παραλία είναι όμως δυνατή μόνο με σκάφος. Συνεχίζοντας δυτικά αλλά έξω από τον κόλπο, θα συναντήσετε τα Αγκάθια, ένα μικρό, απάνεμο κόλπο με αβαθή γαλάζια νερά και μια μεγάλη αμμουδιά που περιμένει να ανταμείψει όσους λίγους θα φτάσουν ως εκεί, από το δύσκολο χωματόδρομο. Λίγο παρακάτω βρίσκονται οι Τριάδες, τρεις ερημικές παραλίες τοποθετημένες η μία μετά την άλλη, με άμμο και υπέροχα νερά. Στη συνέχεια είναι το Αμμουδαράκι με την όμορφη αμμουδιά του. Στη συνέχεια της διαδρομής θα ανακαλύψετε την παραλία του Αγ. Ιωάννη. Ονομάστηκε έτσι από το ιστορικό μοναστήρι του Αγ. Ιωάννη του Σιδεριανού που βρίσκεται στο δρόμο μας πριν φτάσουμε στη θάλασσα. There are beach umbrellas, sun beds, and a canteen on the sandy beach, while there are also a few rooms to let and a restaurant nearby. On the east, there is the Paliochori (meaning old village) beach; a large and popular beach, which is unique for its variety of natural colours and materials that dominate the landscape. The fantastic waters, the fascinating colours and the fabulous sand in combination with the tiny pebbles, impress even the most demanding guest. There are beach umbrellas, sun beds, a canteen and restaurants on the beach. Access is very easy and is achieved by bus or other vehicle. On the rest of the east side of Milos, there are many beaches which are covered mainly by tiny light couthe south route, the next beach you see is the Kipos (meaning garden ) with light-coloured sand. There is also a little harbour, where the caiques depart from for the beaches: Gerontas, Kleftiko, Gerakas and Theiorychia (sulphur mines). Here, you will find also a restaurant serving local specialties, with breathtaking view to the endless blue, and a few rooms to let. On the east of Kipos beach, there is the Aghios Sostis ( Saint Savior ) beach. This is the extension of the Provatas (named from the greek word provato, meaning sheep ) beach. The sand has a magnificent white golden color and the waters are shallow. It is quite popular and organized, as there is a modern hotel and rooms to let nearby, as well as beach umbrellas and sun beds, beach bars, regular bus service, parking area and good food. The first beach to see on this side is the Theiorychia (sulphur mines) beach, with the very impressive, though abandoned mine factory and the colourful rock formations. The beach is covered by beautiful pebbles, while access is achieved only by jeep or by sea. Close to the Theiorychia beach is the Paliorema (meaning old stream ) beach. In the following, you will see some small beaches, like Rema (meaning stream ), Agkali (named from the greek word agalia, meaning hug ) in Kato Komia and Kolibisionas (named from the greek word kolibo, meaning swim ), all having colourful pebbles and magnificent azure waters. Proceeding a little further, you will discover the beautiful Tria Pigadia (meaning three wells ) beach, where you can rent a kayak and make a tour on its beautiful waters. Next to Tria Pigadia you will meet the beach Kastanas with its crystal clear waters. Pollonia is located at the northeast side of Milos and is one of the most famous and picturesque fishing villages of the island. Built around a beautiful cove, it was named from the temple of Apollo, which was once there. It has a magnificent sandy beach with many armirikia trees, offering generously their natural shadow to the holiday makers. There are beautiful little taverns and shops around the beach. Access is easy and can be achieved by vehicle. On the north side of the island, you will also see the Papafraga cave, an idyllic landscape that sticks in the μους. Προχωρώντας θα ανακαλύψετε τα Τρία Πηγάδια, μια ωραιότατη παραλία απ όπου μπορείτε να ενοικιάσετε καγιάκ και να περιηγηθείτε στα υπέροχα νερά της. Αμέσως μετά θα συναντήσετε την παραλία του Καστανά με τα κρυστάλλινα νερά της. Τα Πολλώνια βρίσκονται στη βορειοανατολική πλευρά του νησιού και είναι ένα από τα φημισμένα και γραφικά ψαροχώρια της Μήλου. Είναι χτισμένα σε ένα πολύ όμορφο κόλπο και πήραν το όνομά τους από το ναό του Απόλλωνα που υπήρχε παλιότερα εκεί. Η παραλία έχει αμμουδιά και αρμυρίκια που χαρίζουν απλοχέρα τη φυσική σκιά στους παραθεριστές. Υπάρχουν γραφικά ταβερνάκια, μαγαζιά, ενώ η πρόσβαση με τη συγκοινωνία ή με αυτοκίνητο είναι εύκολη. There, you will see a tiny, picturesque sandy beach, which is surrounded by high, light coloured cliffs and shallow, crystal clear waters leading to the open sea. On the way to Sarakiniko, you will see many small and easy accessible beaches. The first one you see is the beach Pahaina, a much different beach with grey rocks rising from its azure waters and with a magnificent view to the unique formations of the Glaronisia (meaning seagull islands ) islands on the distant horizon. It is a narrow strip of sand, surrounded by high rocks resulting in a shape that reminds of a kraal. A little further, you will reach Sarakiniko, one of the most famous and spectacular beaches of the island. You might not find beach umbrellas, sun beds, shops or other facilities which are provided on the most of the islands beaches; still, this is a sight you shouldn t miss! On the north side of the island, you will see also the Mandrakia harbour, one more impressive little harbour with the familiar syrmata and excellent food. In a distance of hundred meters, there is the Tourkothalassa (meaning the sea of the Turks ) beach, a leeward sandy beach with azure waters. A little further is the Fyropotamos, a small, picturesque cove with syrmata, which has a beautiful and tranquil sandy beach and armirikia trees, offering natural shadow to the visitors. Among the sights worth to visit in the area, is the church of Aghios Nikolaos (Saint Nicola). The beach has a few umbrellas and sun beds, as well as a canteen. The access is very easy and you will find there a parking area. On the route that passes close to Plaka, is the sandy beach of Plathiena.
