4 Οι άκρες του κόσμου βρίσκονται στο τέλος του κάθε δρόμου. Είναι τα αδιέξοδα της γης. Εκεί που τα μονοπάτια χάνονται στη βλάστηση, στα βράχια ή στα νερά. Εκεί που η στεριά βυθίζεται στη θάλασσα. Εκεί που ένας ελάχιστος κόσμος ζει απομονωμένος σ έναν απέραντο ωκεανό, ή σε μια ατέλειωτη έρημο. Είναι οι τόποι που χάνονται κάτω από πάγους, νερά και άμμο. Είναι το τέλος του ταξιδιού, η ενατένιση του μακρινού κι ανέφικτου, το σημείο που ο κόσμος αποσυντίθεται και χάνεται... ΣΗΜΕΙΑ ΠΑΥΣΗΣ Δεν έχουν κανόνα και τρόπο αναγνώρισης αυτά τα μέρη, μα όταν φτάσει ο δρόμος σου ως εκεί δεν έχεις αμφιβολία. Βρίσκεσαι στο χείλος του τίποτα. Στο χείλος του ανθρώπινου. Σε σπίτια, καλύβες, παραπήγματα κι αντίσκηνα ο άνθρωπος αναμετριέται εδώ με το κενό. Υπάρχει άραγε μέσα στον κόσμο η μαγική γραμμή που από την μια της μεριά είναι το κάτι κι από την άλλη το τίποτα; Μπορεί να γίνει αντιληπτή, να σχεδιαστεί, να ζωγραφιστεί; Με τέτοιες σκέψεις βρέθηκε ο πιλότος να εξερευνά με σχέδια και χρώματα κι ολόκληρο τον φτωχικό του εξοπλισμό τις άκρες αυτού του κόσμου. Άκρες που βρίσκονταν στην αρχή πολύ κοντά. Αποβάθρες, ακρωτήρια, μονοπάτια και ρεματιές. Κι έπειτα, ακολουθώντας με πείσμα τις μακρινές διαδρομές αυτής της εσωτερικής του χαρτογράφησης, ανοίχτηκε μακριά, κι ακόμη πιο μακριά, στην άκρη της άκρης. Έφτασε με το ιδιόρρυθμο σύστημα πλεύσης του, μέσα από την αβαρή πραγματικότητα του νου, στα μακρινά σημεία που ο αχανής κόσμος σβήνει κάθε στιγμή. Τι άλλη γοητεία και ομορφιά να χουν αυτά τα μέρη πέρα απ τον μύθο τους, τη σιωπή τους που απλώνεται απ άκρη σ άκρη τόσο μεγαλειώδης και μελωδική ΑΥΤΟ ΕΙΝΑΙ ΤΟ ΤΕΛΟΣ Οι ζωγραφιές αυτές ΕΙΝΑΙ αυτά τα ταξίδια. Πολύ αληθινές και πολύ ψεύτικες. Πολύ πραγματικές και τελείως ανύπαρκτες. Όπως κι όλη η ζωγραφική κι ολόκληρη η τέχνη. Ταξίδια στις άκρες, στα σύνορα του πουθενά. Από που έρχονται οι στίχοι, οι μουσικές, οι εικόνες; Τι εξερευνούν; Κάθε έργο κι ένας τόπος. Ονόματα πραγματικά και σπίτια και βουνά και δρόμοι πραγματικοί, που μέσα από τις μυστικές διόδους της ζωγραφικής εσωτερικεύονται και γίνονται στοιχεία του μύθου. Μ έναν παράδοξο κι αινιγματικό τρόπο η πραγματικότητα ερωτοτροπεί με τις απεικονίσεις της, το κάτι ερωτοτροπεί με το τίποτα κι αντίστροφα. Αυτές είναι οι πτήσεις δωματίου. Ταξίδια μοναχικά στα σύνορα του τοπίου. Παιχνίδια πραγματικότητας, που αντί να επιβεβαιώνεται μέσα απ τα τόσο παράξενα πραγματικά της ονόματα και πράγματα, γίνεται μυθική, ρευστή, αμφίσημη... Κι αν κάποτε βρεθεί κανείς πράγματι σ αυτά τα μέρη τι θα συμβεί; Ποιά στοιχεία θ αμφισβητηθούν, ποιά θα επαναληφθούν, ποιά θα έχουν νόημα και ποιά όχι; Ποιά θα είναι η βαρύτητα του βιώματος; Που θα συμφωνήσει με τις πτήσεις δωματίου, και που θα δει κάτι τελείως διαφορετικό; Τι δεν θα δει ενώ βρίσκεται εκεί; Να μια ενδιαφέρουσα συνέχεια αυτού του σχεδίου! ΒΡΙΣΚΕΣΤΕ ΕΔΩ! 5
6 The edges of the world are found at the end of each road. They are the dead-ends of the earth. Where the trails vanish in the vegetation, among the rocks or in the sea. Where the land plunges into the sea. Where a small world lives contained in a huge ocean or within an endless desert. These are places lost beneath the ice, the water or the sand. They are the end of the journey, the contemplation of the distant and the unattainable; the point where the world dissolves and disappears POINTS OF STANDING STILL There is no uniform way to recognize those places, but if the road leads you there, there will be no doubt, you are at the edge of nothing. At the edge where the human element disappears. Here, inside houses, cottages, shelters and tents man confronts the void. Is there a magic line anywhere in the world, at one side of which there is something and on the other side nothing? Can this magic line be perceived, sketched, painted? With these thoughts, this seeking pilot found himself exploring the edges of this world, with his drawings and colors and his entire humble equipment. Edges, which, in the beginning, were near by. Docks, capes, trails and ravines. Then, stubbornly following the distant routes of his inner mapping, he got carried away, even further, to the edge of the edge. With his peculiar navigation system, through the weightless reality of mind, he arrived at the distant points where the immense world dies out. What other charm and beauty do these places have, except for their myth and silence spreading through and through so magnificent and melodious... THIS IS THE END. These paintings ARE the journeys. They are true and false at the same time. Very real and completely non existent. Just like painting and art. Journeys to the edges, to the frontiers to nothingness. Where do the verses, the music, the pictures emanate from? What do they explore? Each painting is in itself a place. True names and real houses, mountains and roads, which through the secret passages of painting are internally converted and become part of a legend. In a strange and puzzling way reality flirts with its images. Something flirts with nothing and vice versa. These are the wandering flights. Lonely trips to the end of landscape. In this quest for reality, such strange but real places, instead of being confirmed become mythical, fluid, ambiguous And what will happen if someone physically gets to those places? What will be contested, what will be verified, what will be meaningful and what will be rejected? What will be the importance of this experience? In what extent will the pilot explorer agree with wandering flights and in which will he see something totally different? What will he not be able to see once there? Christos Kechagioglou (KEX) was born in Thessaloniki in 1960. He studied Civil Engineering at the University of Thessaloniki, film directing in Athens, he did post-graduate studies in Philosophy of Art in Paris I Sorbonne and acquired his master s degree in philosophy (DEA) by studying the relation between cinema and painting. He created many experimental films and video art productions which were presented in art galleries and festivals. He paints systematically since 1978. His paintings were presented in 16 personal exhibitions, the first in 1981 in Thessaloniki, and in more than 60 group exhibitions in Greece and Europe.
