The Student Union represents the voice of the student body, so talk to them, get to know them, pass on your ideas, and work with them for a better and more harmonized student body. STUDENTS WIN MEDALS IN CULINARY COMPETITIONS won silver medal in the College Chicken Plate and Singh Kamaljeet won bronze in the College Restaurant Plated Dessert competition. In addition, Negi Singh presented Indian cuisine in front of a number of interested attendees. CONGRATULATIONS to all the students and thanks for proudly representing Americanos College. Culinary Arts & Hotel Management students successfully participated in various Culinary competitions during the Gastronomia-Gastrognosia 2006 exhibition, which took place on February 16-19, 2006. They competed against teams or individual students of other Colleges and achieved thriving results. The team of Mohamed Hanif, M.G. Gazi & Md. AMERICANOS COLLEGE FUTSAL TEAM By Bikash Shrestha For those who are not aware, futsal is a variation of football, played with 5 players in a smaller court with smaller goal posts than normal football. Our College team participated in the futsal competition against other Colleges in October 2005- February 2006. The team achieved 8 points, with 2 wins, 5 losses & 1 game of equal points. Americanos College has, thus, been ranked 4 th. University of Cyprus = 22 points Nursing School = 17 HTI = 11 Americanos College = 8 Philips College = -8 The team faced a challenging season with tough competitors, but they played hard and fair. Good job team and we are sure you will do better next season. CULTURAL FESTIVAL By Subba Limbu Amar A very successful, colorful and festive cultural event took place in the College Cafeteria on December 15 th with participants from China, Nepal and India proudly presenting cultural aspects, traditions and tourism development as part of their Travel & Tourism class. The students succeeded in providing a lengthy, but exciting program without a moment of boredom. The Indian students focused on their traditional costumes and the very popular and lively dance Vangada. In addition, they demonstrated tasty Indian dishes and snapshots of Indian natural beauty. The Nepalese students presented the amazing natural resources of Nepal through an interesting acting performance. They also danced and displayed a variety of handicrafts and Nepalese cuisine. Moreover, the Chinese group shared their excellent singing talents and also demonstrated Chinese dishes and handicrafts.
FACE-TO-FACE Mr. Avraam Stephani Mr. Avraam Stephani is the new Director of Administration and Finance as of January 17, 2006. He graduated from the University of Cyprus with a Bachelor in Public & Business Administration. He also got his Master s in Business Administration from the University of Southampton, UK. He worked as an Insurance and Investment agent for the Cyprus National Insurance Ltd and as a Finance Director of his family business. Moreover, he undertook the position of an Administrative Officer at the Ministry of Finance. What have your first impressions of your new position at Americanos College been? It is a very interesting position, very demanding and responsible. It requires integrity, managerial and communication skills. Time management is also essential since there is handling of various important issues. Also, cooperation and understanding from other coworkers, as well as the students is needed, something that I have had so far and I thank everybody for that. What would you like to offer through your position? I would like to contribute in making Americanos College an educational lighthouse for students and the means of making them better people. Also, offer in making Cyprus a highly respected educational center in the Mediterranean area. What do you think about dealing with International students on a daily basis? There are definitely a lot of different cultures here. The right communication is needed for a fair relationship with the students. There is surely a lot to learn from the multicultural community of students and I look forward to that. Any specific goals in life? I would like to have a successful career, gain respect at the workplace, but most importantly to become a better person and also to foster a good family; all the above with God s help of course. What are your hobbies? I enjoy playing football, working out, going on excursions with friends, relaxing at cafes. Is there any specific advice you would like to give to the students of Americanos College? To aim for the objective of finishing their studies successfully. This is a goal that will target their future both personally and professionally. They should at the same time try to balance academics and socials and enjoy their College years. SUGGESTION/ COMPLAINT BOX For those of you who have not already noticed, a Suggestion/Complaint box has been placed in the Cafeteria. The primary aim is for the students to express any complaints, suggestions or ideas about their academic or social life at the College. Administration will take all inputs very seriously and will try to find solutions to any of the above.
